Place 70 – Day 34: Victoria, BC – Hot Stone Massage & Mattick’s Farm

Hot Stone Massage

We woke up after sleeping very early last night and felt very well rested.

We had some cereal for breakfast and Kim then went out for a hot stone massage! She really enjoyed it, actually. She felt like jelly!

Mattick’s Farm

Kim got back and we went out to Mattick’s Farm.

This was only about 20 minutes away and once we got there, it was coffee time!

They had a restaurant and tea room, so we went to the tea room and got ourselves coffee and snacks. Curtis got a cinnamon bun and Kim had a tuna and mayonnaise sandwich.

We left here and went to play mini golf! They had a mini golf place at the farm, so we took Linda to play her first round ever!

The game was pretty close, actually, with Curtis coming out with the win in the end.

We really enjoyed that, actually, and it wasn’t really in the sun either, which was good for us.

We drove back toward Victoria and on the way, we stopped at a supermarket which is known for really cheap fresh fruit and vegetables, so we got in there and got some produce there.

Delicious Dinner

We got back home and relaxed for an hour or so and then we went to a restaurant that Linda has been visiting for a long while.

Curtis and Linda shared a ceasar salad and Kim had a French onion soup, which was her first time trying! She really enjoyed it actually, though it was a lot for her!

Curtis had a steak which came with potatoes and veg and Kim had chicken marsala with mushrooms and veg, too.

We really enjoyed our dinner and were perfectly full.

We headed back home and had some strawberries which Linda bought at the veg store today.

Drinks With Another Friend

We went for drinks with a friend of Kim’s from work just down at the brown’s social house in Victoria.

Curtis hadn’t met her before and Kim hadn’t met her in person but we had a good chat and a drink before heading back home to Linda’s.

We’re heading out again tomorrow, so that should be fun!

Place 72 – Day 967: Vancouver, BC – Mini Golf in Abbotsford

We woke up and had showers and then Curtis went to get croissants and coffee for breakfast.

We ate our breakfast and then we chatted with Kim’s sister for an hour and a bit. It was really nice to chat with her and catch up!

We then left to drive out to Abbotsford to go and play mini golf. We had been told that there was a really good place out there, so why not explore a little!

There were a few accidents on the way, so it took us about 1 hour 40 minutes to get out there, but we did get to drive through some nice rural areas.

We got there and it was GROSS inside! Very few masks and a lot of people. We decided to do the outdoor mini golf, as we didn’t have to worry about other people.

We did the 18 hole mini golf, but it took quite a while as we had to wait for people in front of us to finished each hole before starting and they took a while!

We finished that up, with Kim narrowly winning, and then we got hungry and thirsty, so we went across to McDonald’s to get some food. It was a pretty gross McDonald’s store, so we ate some of our food in the car and then drove back towards home. The way back was much faster, though we did have some congestion in a few spots, but that was to be expected.

We drove to the supermarket on the way back as that made the most sense and we did our weekly shop. We bought a lot of soup, as Curtis has his surgery this week and cannot have anything other than soup and soft food, Kim so managed to find some really nice soft foods and liquids for him.

We got back home and Curtis had the remaining leftover curry with some rice and Kim had some homemade egg fried rice with vegetables which was really good!

We watched a bit of TV and then Kim looked up some exciting things online!

Curtis has to be up earlier for a meeting tomorrow, so we shall sleep at a good time tonight!

Place 72 – Day 500: Vancouver, BC – Best Coffee In Vancouver?

We woke up at a really reasonable time today and had some toasties for breakfast. After breakfast, we had showers and then braved the rain to get ourselves some coffee!

We had heard and read that Revolver was the best coffee place in Vancouver, so we thought we should check it out.

We got pretty wet from the rain on the way there and back, but we were excited for our coffee!

Unfortunately, it wasn’t all that impressive. By no means was the coffee bad, but we weren’t really blown away! But we are glad we got to try it and we may think about trying some different coffee from there in the future.

When we got home, we played some Minecraft and then some VR!

we played quite a bit of VR, including some Mini Golf and the other game we had been playing recently.

We then watched some more TV and followed that up with eating our remaining leftovers from our Chinese food order yesterday.

We watched Big Fat Quiz 2020 whilst we ate which was funny, then finished the night off with some more Minecraft and TV/YouTube.

Place 72 – Day 368: Vancouver, BC – Preparing For Awesomeness!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a busy morning. He had to help deal with someone’s broken laptop, which looks like it’ll need sending off and fixing, so he and his colleagues discussed what they’re going to do with that.

For a lot of the day, Curtis helped with an ongoing issue a couple of people were having with logging into some software, but it turned out it was actually an issue with the software itself and not Curtis’ company, so that’s good!

Curtis had a team meeting in the afternoon which was just a casual chat.

Curtis started to get a bad headache in the late afternoon, so he had a bit of a lay down.

Kim’s Day

Kim hosted a call from home, but no one joined so she headed into the office. Before she started on stuff for the summer party, Kim sorted some admin and went through her emails.

Once all that was done, Kim worked on the last quiz before heading to a couple of shops with her colleague. They first picked up some stuff for the cocktail class tomorrow that they are hosting, before picking up a few other items from the supermarket.

Once they got back to the office Kim worked on the quiz some more before running a test call for the wiki race game. She had a few people on the call and did a full run through of how it works and it was great!

After that call, a few people left and then the remaining people went over how the marking of the quiz will go. There will be winners each round and a final winner. They also then helped with testing the audio and visuals for the party tomorrow. They have a great set up planned and it all works brilliantly! So that was a big relief!

For the rest of the afternoon Kim worked on the Quiz and she managed to finish it. This is great as the Quiz Kim just finished will be used in the two other summer parties next week!

Once everyone had gone home for the day Kim tried to get a last minute project for the parties, but it didnt work. So instead Kim set up the kitchen with decorations and all the stuff that will be needed tomorrow.

She then tried the plan again, but the laptop would load up fully so she abandoned that idea! Instead Kim did a final review of all the questions in the quizzes with her colleague and eventually called it a day at 9pm! Kim is very excited and and a little nervous for the first party tomorrow! Hopefully it goes well!

Evening

When Kim got home, we had a chicken ceasar salad for dinner and watched some TV.

Place 72 – Day 367: Vancouver, BC – Dropping Off Laptops

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did some admin first thing and then walked down to work with Kim as he had a couple of things to do in the office.

Curtis got to the office and had to check some things in the server room and once he checked those, he went to the storage and got two laptops out that he had to send.

These laptops needed to be sent because they were sent incorrectly to Curtis’ company.

Curtis printed the waybills he was provided and then left the office, taking them to the UPS store to get them to send them off.

Curtis walked back home and when he got home he did a few tickets before lunch and had a brief meeting, too.

After lunch, Curtis did a lot of tickets and the afternoon flew very fast!

Kim’s Day

Today Kim spent her day shipping stuff. It seems uneventful but the day never seemed to stop!

Kim started the day by spending her morning sending out laptops. There were only 3 to send out, but it was so time consuming.

For the beginning of the afternoon Kim sending out the mocktail kits for the east coast people. She made some stickers with instructions and to let the postal service know that the boxes are fragile.

She then had a sit down with her colleague to go over the summer parties once more and finalise the day of timeline. Once this meeting was done Kim sent packaged up and sorted all the labels for the other mocktail kits that will be sent out tomorrow.

Evening

When Kim got home, we had some hoisin chicken with pasta & mushrooms, with a ceasar salad on the side.

We watched some TV and then played mini golf.

Kim then made some coconut fudge as we had some leftover condensed milk.

Once she did that, we watched some more TV and then tried to go to bed a little earlier to get some good sleep.

Place 72 – Day 366: Vancouver, BC – Too Hot For Sleeping

Too Hot For Sleeping

We both really struggled to sleep last night! It was so incredibly warm outside and even having the windows open didn’t seem to help as it was too warm outside with no breeze at all.

We both woke up very tired this morning but we did get to see the coop thunderstorm last night!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had his weekly team meeting and then had planned to head to the office to get someone done there, but the plans changed as something hadn’t been done by a vendor, so he’ll have to go tomorrow instead.

The rest of the morning and most of the afternoon, Curtis did some tickets.

At the end of the afternoon, Curtis wrote and email draft to send out to all team leads to inform them of the new onboarding process.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day from home and sorted out a lot of the quiz media for the UK our people quiz, which was amazing!

After lunch Kim went into the office and sorted a couple of things our before joining a team meeting. It was great for everyone to align their plans for the next few weeks and talk over a few things coming up. It was a really productive meeting.

Shortly after the meeting the cocktail kits that need to be mailed out got dropped off. So Kim helped her colleague loading them on a trolley and bringing them up to the office. They then did a quick stock check, named and logged all the kits before puttinh them in the fridges.

Kim spent the rest of the afternoon finishing the media for one quiz and then starting to draft up questions for the history of the company quiz round. As this was winding to an end Kims colleague came back into the offce so they had a good catchup and that was wonderful.

Evening

Kim got back home fairly late, so we had a pizza from Pizza Garden, which is delicious.

We played some mini golf, as expected, and watched a bit more TV. It was incredibly warm today, as it was yesterday!

Place 72 – Day 353: Vancouver, BC – Surprise Offboard

Curtis’ Day

Curtis has a lot of team members that are off for most of this week, so it’s a busy one!

In the morning, a lot of tickets were coming in so Curtis triaged them and also did a few himself.

After this, Curtis had a team meeting which also didn’t last long as there wasn’t many people.

Curtis did some security work and then some more tickets up to lunchtime.

At lunch, the Leafs game came on and Curtis watched that! He then had that on in the background for the rest of the day.

The leafs won!

Curtis had a surprise offboard come in in the afternoon to be completed today! Therefore, Curtis did this at the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim was asked to print some stuff off for a colleague popping into the office, but when she went to print the waste toner cartridge was full. So she called a technician to come in and empty it. Unfortunately, the colleague had already made their way into the office so Kim spent some time on the talking with IT to see if they can set her up on another printer but had no luck. Luckily the colleague was able to get the things done that were needed without the document, so that was a relief.

She then worked out and set up a plan for someone else to come back to the office to work. She picked some seats that they can use and sent them across for the person to pick from.

Kim spent some time running through some of the party stuff with her colleague, they checked the RSVPs and went over communications that need to go out.

We had another visitor come in to drop off a few things and pick up another charger. Shortly after that the printer technician arrived and while he was in Kim worked on a shipment and ended up calling UPS to troubleshoot an issue that she has been having in regards to printing off documents. It was a really good call, Kim wasn’t hung up on and there is now a workaround for the issue!

To end the day Kim finished up the quizzes for the UK, tomorrow she will start putting them onto Kahoot and finding the media for them too.

Evening

Once Kim got back home, we had lasagna with garlic bread and salad for dinner and got a bit into a YouTube rabbit hole!

We wat he’d a bunch of videos and then played some mini golf, followed by more videos.

Place 72 – Day 352: Vancouver, BC – Monday Mini Golf

Mini Golf!

We woke up and had a cooked breakfast, consisting of scrambled eggs, hash browns, baked beans, toast and Curtis also had bacon.

Today is a day off here in BC, so no work for us!

We watched a bit of TV and then got ready for the day.

We got into the car and drove up to North Vancouver where we went to a driving range, which also had an outside mini golf course!

We got there and it was quiet, but shortly after we arrived quite a lot of people came after us!

The holes were quite simple, but we did enjoy it. Curtis actually won, too, which was unexpected from both of us.

After our mini golf, we went down to the nearest town to grab a coffee.

The coffee shop we went to wasn’t great. The coffee didn’t taste that good and no one inside was wearing masks.

We sat and people watched for a while but got warm, so we headed back to the car and drive home. We stopped in at a store to get bread, too.

We got home and just relaxed to cool down for an hour or so and then we had our dinner.

We had more lasagna but this time with homemade garlic bread.

We watched a bit of TV and then we played a few games that we had previously downloaded but not played. We really enjoyed most of them, actually!

We watched a few more shows, did some housekeeping and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 350: Vancouver, BC – Emancipation Day March

We woke up and had some breakfast and then got ourselves ready.

We walked down to Kim’s office where Kim planned to setup a camera to capture a timelapse of the Emancipation Day march.

Unfortunately, nothing seemed to happen for a while, which was odd, so we walked down to where it was meant to start to see what was happening.

There was a large group gathered with live music playing and some speaches. We hung out here for about 1 hour until the march started.

We then followed the march for a while, just a little bit back, but then it started to bunch up quite a bit and we were uncomfortable with this (we were distanced and wearing masks, but it got a little close). The march was very well done and moving, for sure. We were very happy to have attended.

We then left the march and grabbed a coffee.

We walked back home and relaxed for a bit.

Kim then went out to some shops to return some times and was even able to find some new clothes and shoes!

When Kim got back, we went out to the supermarket to get our shop done.

We came back home and had our leftover Korean chicken for dinner.

We then watched the film Disclosure which is about Trans representation in the media. It was very interesting and informative.

We then played some mini golf and watched a bit more TV.

Place 72 – Day 342: Vancouver, BC – The IT Crowd

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a moderately busy day today.

Curtis started with admin as usual, and then some tickets came in so he took and completed those.

Curtis had a team meeting in the morning and then later in the morning, there was an office wide zoom call in which everyone got a colour from the pride flag and made a pride flag on zoom with everyone’s faces in it, which was awesome!

After that, Curtis had some lunch and then after lunch he did some teams building with his team, which was to watch The IT Crowd together, which was fitting for his team!

After that, Curtis wrapped up a few things and then was done for the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim startes nice an early today as she had to move the social call earlier for a company wide Q&A from yesterday’s meeting. The social call was great, there were a fair few people on the call and they had a wonderful catch up. The meeting after was informative and interesting.

When Kim got into the office she sent a few emails chasing for information and direction. She also received the laptop that had been hard to ship back! Which was great news, it had been a headache!

Kim spent the last bit of her morning working on her credit card and the expenses. She did that right up until the next social call, where she waited for people to join but only one did! They had a little catch up. After the chat Kim finished her credit card expenses.

Late afternoon Kim popped out with a couple of friends to get ice cream! There is a great place just down the road so they got one there and enjoyed them back at the office.

Kim finished her day by joining the West Coast social call for a while. She jumped off to tidy up after a few deliveries and then went home!

Japanese Curry

Kim got home and we played some mini golf but then got hungry, so we ordered Japanese curry to have for dinner.

It was ok, not as good as in Japan of course, but it was fine.

We ate that and then Kim had a bath & relax whilst Curtis played some games.

We joined back together and watched a movie in the evening. It was an easy to watch movie called Overboard.

We then went to bed fairly early as we have a long big day tomorrow!
