Place 72 – Day 520: Vancouver, BC – ANOTHER Application Submitted!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis and a team meeting at 09:30 and then was busy with some tickets followed by some admin and security work before it hit lunchtime.

Once lunch was done, Curtis had some questions and tickets to attend to, then he started a project. It was mostly figuring out what needs to be done for the project, but there was a little bit he got done, too.

He had a quick request from someone on his team for some information so he found that and provided it to them, then it was the end of the day and time to watch hockey!

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim sent a few emails and set up some meetings for next week. She then joined a meeting to set up a company wide brainstorm.

After the meeting Kim submitted her PNP profile. Then she created a template that she will use for some base questions in interviews. Kim also sent some paperwork to another new hire and ticked a few quick wins off of her to do list.

In the afternoon Kim went for a masked walk with her colleague. It was so fun and the weather was beautiful. Once she was home Kim worked on a few things for the facilities project.

Evening

We had some pizza from our favourite pizza place for dinner, once Kim got home and hockey finished.

We ate that terrific pizza, did some tidying and cleaning for the first set of viewings tomorrow and watched a bit of TV.

We topped of the evening with some wine and relaxing.

Last Night’s Hockey

Curtis’ team did not do as well as they have been!

The game ended 4-4, but Curtis’ team were winning by two goals twice and managed to throw both leads away!

The game went to a shootout and Curtis took one shot, but the goalie made an incredible save.

As no one won in the shootout, the game ended a tie.

Curtis’ team haven’t lost yet, still, but a tie wasn’t the desired result.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis spent most of his day doing the project work from yesterday, as well as some tickets.

He had his Norwegian lesson for an hour which went well, and then he did more project work.

He did his project work whilst on a call with some colleagues to talk about it and figure out some stuff together.

That was pretty much the entire day, just getting the project all sorted, as well as the tickets he did.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim had a second interview for the role she is really excited about. She got herself prepared and ready for the interview. She ensured that the mic and camera were working, that she had water and the laptop was on charge.

Kim joined the meeting nice and early and waited to get going. The interview went well, but Kim wasn’t sure she was what they are looking for or that the interview didn’t go perfectly.

For the rest of the morning Kim tried to relax and not worry about it. Then during lunch Kim got an email asking her if tomorrow works for a third (and final) interview!

She was so happy and relieved and set up the interview right away.

Kim then spent some time researching the person she will be interviewing with and a check of her CV and the job listing.

Kim listed the mini hockey set for sale on Facebook over the weekend and someone bought and collected it today. Its great for storage and space, but sad to see it go, it kept Kim and Curtis sane during the first few months of the pandemic for sure! There just isn’t the space in this apartment and so it made sense to go to someone else.

In the late afternoon Kim went for a nice walk with her friend and their dog. They grabbed a coffee and a snack and had a great catchup. They then visited a pet store on the way back and there was a puppy training session about to happen so Kim met and said hello to a few puppies and was very happy about that.

Evening

After Kim got back from her time out with her friend, we had leftover egg fried rice and watched a bit of TV.

We finished watched The Boys Season 2 and then started the new Great British Bake Off season, which we didn’t realise was a thing!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day was full of mostly just trying to get laptops setup for a company ran exhibition/conference which happens in September.

The specifications were a little different, so Curtis and his team had to find out how to do certain things etc.

As well as doing that, Curtis had a long meeting to discuss the new team structure followed by lunch!

For lunch, Curtis went to the Mexican truck just outside which was delicious as ever.

After lunch, Curtis gave someone a new laptop and then the company got some really good news, so they got to celebrate with prosecco & delicious doughnuts!

After that, Curtis went back to doing what he had been doing all day, but then had to offboard someone at 15:00 and once he was done doing that, it was beer o’clock.

Curtis sat with others from the office for around an hour and then headed to mert Kim.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent the beginning of her morning at her desk sorting out emails before having a sit down mid morning to eat some breakfast. When she got back to her desk, Kim had a nice catch up with the lady who comes in to water the plants. Its been over 6 weeks since she saw her last! Madness!

Kim then started her first bigger task for the day which was to replace the legs on one of the desks. She managed to remove the legs okay, but was finding it difficult to screw the new ones on without just a screwdriver as they kept getting stuck at a funny angle. So she found a drill and tried again, it turns out that the screwdriver was wonky. So Kim put this task to one side as the pizza for the end of month talks arrived. Just as she was finalising the payment the other food delivery arrived so she ran that to the group and went about setting up for the monthly talks. She organised the chairs and helped set up bits of the AV and then set the pizza up.

The talks for the month were wonderful, Kim didn’t understand them all but it was very interesting. At the end of the talk, the lady who usually presents past that role over to Kim as she just took on a new job and wouldn’t have too much time for it anymore. Its exciting for Kim to have this as an on going monthly little project.

After the talks Kim sorted the leftover pizza and cleared the area up before taking another stab at the desk. A colleague allowed Kim to use their drill from the IT department, turns out that the battery was flat and once it had ‘charged’ they learnt that the battery did not work. Kim then made makeshift legs out of 2 pedestals and called it a day with that!

Kim then took some time to head to the liquor store and pick up some wine and cider.

Kim then took some time to clear out the junk she had inherited around the front desk area and put a lot into storage. She also took a cabinet filled with paper to use as a cover up to hide things behind!

It was then the final task for the day and Kim set up all the drinks and made them loom beautiful! Kim stayed for most of the afternoon drinks and then left to meet Curtis.

Someone Stealing Shoes!

On the walk home, we saw a guy tackle someone and were a little confused.

Turns out that the person had shoes on from Foot Locker and hadn’t paid for them and the other guy was a Foot Locker employee trying to get the shoes back.

Before we were able to help, the guy had broken free and ran away, unfortunately.

After that event, the rest of the walk home was uneventful.

We had taken food out but couldn’t really be bothered to make anything, so instead we had toasties for dinner!

We watched some videos and relaxed. It been a tiring few weeks.

Place 72 – Day 63: Vancouver, BC – Drone Obstacle Course & Lunchtime Coffee

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very busy morning, fixing an issue that started yesterday as well as fixing a few things that happened due to some changes made last night.

As well as fixing issues, Curtis attempted to convert a desk to a standing desk, but after unscrewing all but 1 screw, the last one was blunted so he couldn’t undo it, so he had to give up and put it back to how it was.

Our Lunchtime Coffee

We met at a coffee shop called Mario’s for a coffee as we’ve both been past it and thought it looked great! It is a typical Italian style cafe, owned by an Italian man who was very lovely. We got a coffee each, which was incredible, and had a chat about our day together.

Curtis’ Post Lunch

After lunch, Curtis got some more things done before having to write the ‘beer email’ for the week. This is a nominated email in which the nominated person must say about the upcoming weather as well as the beer the office had on tap and anything else that they want to share.

Once Curtis finished this email, an obstacle course for kids that were at his office (due to there being a ‘summercamp’) started. Drones had to be flown through hoops and obstacles and then a RC truck had to be driven around a course.

Curtis had some drinks in the afternoon and socialised with his colleagues before walking home.

Kim’s Day

Kim got into work and set up for the day then ate some breakfast.

She then properly started her day by chasing for a quote for a cake that is needed next week.

Kim then spent some time going through the replies from the summer party invite and noting who is bringing plus ones and dietary requirements people may have. She made a cool little spreadsheet, info like that is always better on a spreadsheet!

She then completed the paperwork and sent it across to the bus company to secure the transfer from work to the party on the day!

Kim then spent some of her morning on ad hoc things that came up, like organising the catering that arrived, finding a branded hoody for someone who wanted one and greeting a visitor who came in.

While checking up on orders coming in for a catering service that they use, Kim notice that people had the ability to order plastic cutlery at $0.25 a unit. Kim then contacted the company and request that this functionality be removed as they have cutlery, both metallic and plastic at work so it seems silly to order more in. It worked too! The company were super accommodating and were more than happy to remove the option!

Kim then spent some time organising the cupboard behind her desk and then organised the single use plastic cutlery, the more organised it is, the faster it can be used up and bio replacements can be brought in!

Kim then headed out to meet Curtis for coffee.

When she got back kim organised a few little things before popping out to the liquor store to buy the weekly wine and beer for the Friday afternoon drinks. On the way back Kim also grabbed the mail.

When she got back to her desk Kim then went through and ordered the fruit for next week and a new catering request for Monday.

The quote then came through so Kim discussed it with her colleague and then placed the order.

It was then time to set up the friday afternoon drinks, so Kim set everything up and let everyone know it was time to help themselves.

After maybe 45 minutes Kim then headed home for the weekend!

Chilled Evening

We had a very chilled evening, watching some YouTube videos then some Lucifer followed by The Last Leg and some other shows.

We are very much looking forward to sleeping!
