Place 73 – Day 1: Seattle,WA 🇺🇸 – Crossing The Border & Beautiful Room

Early Wake Up

We were up early to get ready, pack up and eat breakfast.

We bought cinnamon buns from the supermarket yesterday to have for breakfast along with the remainder of our orange juice.

Once we got packed up and showered, we checked out of our apartment and walked to the bus station.

Awesome Building

The bus/train station is Pacific Central Station. This is an amazing old building, with beautiful ceilings and the architecture is incredible, both inside and out.

Subway & Coffee

We had time to kill, so we were resourceful and went to Subway to get a sandwich for our bus ride and Curtis went to Starbucks for a coffee.

We got back to the bus station and stopped there for a while whilst we waited for the bus.

The bus arrived and on we got, ready for our 5.5 hour journey!

The Border

About 2 hours in to our trip, we stopped at the US border and went through customs.

We got our bags searched, randomly, which is always nerve wracking, even though you know you have nothing!

We jumped back onto the bus and continued on through some really awesone towns.

Arrival in Seattle

We arrived in Seattle and had to figure out our route to our apartment.

We walked a, less desirable, way and it felt a little intimidating, but we were all good!

We eventually got there and it was actually in a great neighbourhood and was very lovely.

We got ourselves in and we have a beautiful room as well as a shared bathroom, but that is lovely too! It’s in a 3 storey apartment and we are currently just sharing with the people that live here, so this bathroom is just ours for now.

Walking Around

We wanted a walk so walked for 20 minutes or so to get to the supermarket, where we saw McDonald’s so we knew what we were eating!

We got what we needed from the supermarket and then grabbed our food.

We strolled back to the apartment and were really ready to chill out.

We have some fun stuff planned for the next week here in Seattle!

Place 70 – Day 12: Victoria, BC – 2 Year Wedding Anniversary!

We have been married for 2 years, today!

When we woke up, there was leftover snow but no snow falling. We had breakfast and then got a few admin things done, some of which were blog admin as well as getting some forms we needed to get sorted.

We then wanted to head out, but it started snowing, so we put it off, but then went out anyway.

It was snowing a lot with a lot of snow on the ground also, as well as freezing temperatures, so we wrapped up nice and warm.

Linda had planned to take us out for dinner, but due to the weather we decided not to go, so we went to buy some pizza from the supermarket instead.

We stopped at a shop to get Curtis a neck warmer and then we went to McDonald’s to get a chipotle chicken snack wrap each.

After that, it was Tim Horton’s time for a coffee and doughnut and to see if we could win on their ‘roll up the rim’ game (when you finish your drink, you roll up the rim of the cup and it says if you win anything).

We each had a tiramisu doughnut which was ok and Kim had a hot chocolate whilst Curtis had a coffee.

Curtis didn’t win on his cup, but Kim won a free coffee! As we were leaving and didn’t want another coffee, we gifted it to another person who was buying one.

We went from here to the supermarket and got what we wanted and then chucked the pizza in when we got back.

We atea bit of the pizza, but it was pretty filling, and then struggled to stay awake and watch some TV!

thanks to everyone that has said congratulations to us today! We also have some cool changes coming to the blog and other things, so be on the lookout for that.

Place 60 – Day 7: Rotorua – Government Gardens & Night Luge

We had a leisurely morning this morning, after our skydive.

Tom was out fairly early, making use of the last day of cycling whilst the rest of us relaxed.

Kim and Maggie eventually went out to the centre of Rotorua where there is a big garden area called Government Gardens. They walked around this for a while in the incredible warmth past the big house as well as Lake Rotorua and then went for a coffee and a sit down.

Tom arrived back at the house whilst Curtis was there watching hockey and then he cycled his bike back to the shop, getting picked up on the way back by Kim and Maggie.

Eventually, we all went out for a spot to eat at a Thai place in the city, which was pretty good, but still not as good as Thailand!

We went from here to the luge place where we paid for 5 rides each for a discounted price as it was ‘night rides’.

We spent a couple of hours here as it was surprisingly busy! It was really good fun and we even did the hardest run, which was certainly next level. We got some nice photos of the sunset whilst waiting for the luge, too!

We left the luge place around 21:30 and drove home via McDonald’s to get an ice cream.

Once we got back we packed up as it is our last night here in Rotorua before we drive back to Auckland tomorrow.

Place 60 – Day 3: Rotorua – Hot Tub Chillin’

Our hosts provided us with breakfast, which was very kind of them! Tom was even treated to some fish caught the day before.

We finished our breakfast and coffee, got ready, said goodbye and thank you and then got on the road.

We were driving to Rotorua, but stopped at Taupo on the way for a coffee. The McDonald’s in Taupo had a airplane as a kids play area which is awesome!

We left Taupo with our coffee and drove to Rotorua.

After arriving, we explored our large house, which can fit at least 10 people! We then went out to the shop to get food for dinner.

We relaxed for a while when we got back and then Kim made a steak salad which was delicious and beautiful!

After dinner, we jumped in the hot tub briefly, with a glass of bubbly!

We didn’t last long in the hot tub as it wasn’t that fun, so we got out and chilled.

Kim and Tom went to the supermarket to get some ice cream for dessert and then we hunkered down for the rest of the evening to relax.

We’re in Rotorua for a few days, so have some fun things planned!

Place 63 – Day 1: Queenstown 🇳🇿 – Car Pickup, Arrowtown & Luge!

We were up nice and early at 05:30 to get showered and ready to fly!

We booked an Uber and got to the airport with about 2 hours to spare. We went to check our bags but realised they were too heavy, so had to re-jig them to ensure they were of an acceptable weight.

We checked our bags and went to McDonald’s for a spot of breakfast and a coffee.

We breezed through security, waited briefly and went onto the plane! The flight was nice and easy, we listened to some music and before we knew it, we were there.

Queenstown is very mountainous, which is the first thing we noticed.

We all collected our bags and walked outside to the transfers area where we were to wait for our free shuttle to our car rental company. We had to wait for 45 minutes for the shuttle, but eventually got there.

The car was very dirty, but to be fair to them, they are currently working on a construction site! We have the car for a couple of weeks.

After picking up the car, we drove to Arrowtown for a look around and for some lunch. Our airbnb host was kind enough to recommend a nice pub to go to, so one we walked around, we went there for lunch. Curtis had fish and chips whilst Kim had a chicken wrap.

We walk around a bit more after lunch and then just before driving to our airbnb, we had a brief walk around the old chinese settlement.

We drove to the airbnb and met our host who was lovely! We are in our own apartment out in the back garden of the house and it is perfect! Exactly what we were looking for!

We relaxed a bit and then drove down to Queenstown’s Centre to see what all the fuss is about.

We found a parking spot and went for a wander. We sat on the pier and watched some boats and looked at the mountains. It was perfectly relaxing!

Kim got a crepe and then we walked up to the cable car to do the luge!

We got 5 rides each and it wasn’t too busy.

We attempted to race but it didn’t work too well, until the last run which was a really good battle, until Curtis got stuck!

The views were exceptional from the top of the mountain.

Once we finished this, we walked down to the car and stopped at a supermarket for dinner supplies before heading home.

We got back to the apartment and had some salad for dinner with some other things and then pretty much went to bed! We did a bit of admin but got too tired so went to sleep.

More fun things ahead!

Place 49 – Day 376: Auckland – 2 Hour Massage, Ferry Trip & Afternoon Tea!

Kim had a massage booked for herself and her mum this morning, meaning Curtis and Kim’s dad (Tom) had nothing to do.

To combat having nothing to do, Curtis and Tom took a walk to a ferry port, about 35 minute walk away. The sun was beating down but there was a bit of wind so the walk was actually quite nice.

Once they got to the port, they had to wait for 30 minutes or so for the boat, so they sat and watched the world go by. They were right next to the harbour bridge so had a great view!

Once on the ferry, it only took about 10 minutes before arriving in the city.

Curtis took Tom the wrong way to the city, so they had a 30 minute diversion but it was nice! There was a hill to walk up followed by a park called Albert Park right by the university which had a gargantuan tree!

Big_tree_albert_park

They eventually got to the city centre and went to McDonald’s for a coffee whilst waiting for Kim & her mum.

Kim and Maggie had a terrific time with their massage! It was 2 hours of vigorous massage, but it helped them both greatly!

We met up again in the city and went for afternoon tea at a 5 star hotel!

We had an assortment of savory items, some scones and some sweet treats. There were sandwiches, curry pasties, macaroons, mini pavlova and more! We also had unlimited tea and coffee. This was very tasty and actually filled us up! Curtis gives it a 4.5/10 as nothing really blew him away. Kim gives it an 8/10.

Afternoon_tea

After we finished this, we waddled back to the car and drove home to relax for a bit, which didn’t happen!

Someone wanted to buy our bed, so we had to take that downstairs. Once we took it downstairs, we packed everything up and got it ready, both for our roadtrip and for leaving Auckland!

We got the room completely empty and tidy so that it could be shown to potential new tenants when we aren’t here.

We went out again in the evening to see Danielle and Josh and introduce them to Kim’s parents.

We went out to a BBQ place and the food was pretty good. Curtis had a 200G sirloin steak with bernaise sauce, chips & coleslaw. Meanwhile, Kim had a burger which had no bun but had fried mac & cheese as a replacement! Curtis gives his food a 6.7/10 and Kim gives hers a 8/10.

It was great to catch up with Josh and Danielle after such a long time and to introduce them to Kim’s parents.

Once we got home, we watched some YouTube videos and had dessert and then went to bed as we all need to be up early tomorrow.

We haven’t got a bed, so we are setup on the sofa/floor for tonight!

We are all flying together tomorrow! Should be fun but also tiring.

Place 61 – Day 1: One Tree Point 🇳🇿 – The Long Weekend Away Begins!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis’ Day was ridiculously busy! He spent most of the day fighting with the Mac still as well as a lot of cases that came in. There isn’t too much to write about other than the fact he was busy!

One of Curtis’ colleagues had their last day today, so at 09:30 there was a ‘morning tea’ for 30 minutes to say goodbye.

Curtis heard on the radio about a crazy police chase with shots fired and a whole road closure, so he had assumed that the journey home was going to take a while, but it did not!

Both of us;

Kim got home and we packed the last few items for our long weekend away and then Danielle and Josh picked us up from home and we set off.

We stopped at mcdonalds for a bite to eat and then carried on before arriving at One Tree Point, where Josh’s mum has a nice house.

We are just staying here for one night before we drive further up north, but the house is beautiful!

We arrived and Kim was having a great time with the dogs that are here. We all sat down and watched a film called Upgraded which started off rubbish but actually got pretty good.

Once the film was done, it was 23:00 so it was bed time!

We are up nice and early tomorrow to continue our drive up north.
