Place 72 – Day 206: Vancouver, BC – Locksmith

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ morning was full of tickets. He got a lot done and they were mostly new ones, and they kept coming in thick and fast.

In the afternoon, Curtis had a meeting with regards to a project (on which he is a Business Analyst) and then after that, he setup a laptop for someone, as well as completing some other tickets.

A locksmith visited Curtis’ work to look at some doors and see if they would be able to put a lock on them.

They’re sliding doors so it may be a little difficult.

Kim’s Day

Kim wrote up an email to her colleague with a load of questions of stuff she needed help with and she looked into car rentals for a visitor.

She then went through her social folder and reorganised it and made a better list of her ideas, costs and venues. It makes it easier to understand the plans she has!

Kim spent a lot of her day answering calls, saving invoices and sending out emails.
In the late afternoon Kim moved some desks around and allocated empty desks a set of draws.

Evening

Curtis got home and watched the remainder of the leafs game.

Kim was at work for a bit longer, so didn’t have much time left before she went off to training.

Kim class tonight was awesome! She managed to nail a climb she has struggled with for ages and she did a cool combo.
After the class Kim practiced her routine and she now has a solid base, she is getting there!

Curtis played some of a new game that was released and then had to take the train up to Richmond and meet Kim there, as he didn’t have hockey for a while, but Kim was up in Richmond so he just met her there.

Curtis has a late hockey game, so we will tell you about that tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 199: Vancouver, BC – Jurassic Park, Margaritas & Nachos

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had to leave home an hour earlier this morning to get a scan. This was to see his wisdom teeth in 3D to check if they are touching the nerves. This will determine how they’ll need to be removed.

This only took 10 minutes, so Curtis stopped off at Mario’s for a coffee and then headed to work.

Curtis got to work and played games with his team for an hour as ‘team building’.

Curtis got the nitro canister swapped out for the coffee but it still didn’t work, so he got in contact with the company who are sending someone out.

After this, Curtis had some tickets to do and then there was a meeting in which Curtis was the Business Analyst, gathering information from a team lead with regards to the project he is working on.

After that, he watched Jurassic Park with a few people in the boardroom and had nachos and margaritas!

After this, it was very quiet, so Curtis did some training to wrap the day up.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim started her day by moving a TV from one meeting room to another.

However the TV does not actually fit on the new wall properly, so in reality Kim has moved a TV from a wall to the floor!

She then had her weekly 1:1 with her teammate and they went over all the questions that Kim had written up over the week. They also then did a quick walk around to discuss a few things that they want to change around the office. It was a good successful meeting.

The rest of Kims day was filled with quick wins! She fixed the dishwasher and a table, reached out to handymen, the dishwasher repair company and she reached out to the building about recycling a bunch of stuff!

In the early afternoon, Kim had a meeting with a car rental company which was quick and went well. She then also had another catch up with the cleaners and building management and they went over a few things too.

Evening

Curtis did some laundry and a few things around the apartment and then played games whilst waiting for Kim to come home.

Kim got home but left fairly quickly after to go to pole.

Kim’s first class was great! One of her favourite teachers is back and then after Kim went to open pole to work on her routine. She is making genuinely good progress, but the routine is far from finished!

Curtis watched the leafs game which was on later today, at 19:30.

Kim got back home from pole and we watched a little bit of TV but went to sleep pretty early.

Place 72 – Day 175: Vancouver, BC – Power Outage & ThinkTank Decommissioning

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and there was an issue with the Regina office’s power, meaning a lot of things were not working!

Curtis and his colleague, as well as 2 others from the office, went over to Gastown to visit the think-tank which the company is getting rid of.

There, they removed all of the IT equipment, TVs etc, and packed it all up.

This only took about 2 hours, which was a little quicker than expected, but they managed to get back in time for a debrief on the issues that had happened that morning.

After lunch, Curtis had a meeting regarding a software application to see what can be done from his team to assist.

After this, Curtis just got some tickets completed and then headed home.

Kim’s Day

This morning Kim took some time to look into courses to see what is available for her to take.

She then had a project meeting and they talked about where they got up to. It’s all going smoothly and is on the right track. After the meeting Kim added links and made changes here and there before redoing one of the floor plans and starting a plan to redo another, before starting a new floor plan for a different office.

During the work on the project Kim and her colleague had an impromptu meeting to go over the project, a few social things and a plan for the next few months. It was a really god catch up.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim worked on setting up things for a few social events that are coming up. She drew up some costs and looked into where everything would be bought from for each office.

Evening

Kim went out to do her energy exchange and then went to the drug store on the way home. Curtis watched the leafs game during this time.

Once Kim got back, we had some dinner and watched some TV.

Curtis has to be up early tomorrow as there is a meeting happening at 09:00 so he wants to be there before to ensure everything works as expected.

Place 72 – Day 166: Vancouver, BC – Plant Based Spaghetti Bolognese

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ Day was a very busy one!

Curtis had his normal brief team meeting in the morning, but was so busy before hand that he didn’t manage to even plan his day (which is what is discussed in the meeting).

Curtis didn’t stop being busy after the meeting, helping a couple of people around the office but also in other offices.

Curtis started to write up a policy, which he actually did for most of the afternoon, and then got some feedback from that which meant he had to do some further research.

Curtis left and walked home, hitting every light perfectly and was able to get home in about 25 minutes!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by catching up on emails from over the weekend and then she went into a meeting about the Wiki project.

They went over the full plan and most of the required bits have been done.

After the meeting Kim made up some business cards and did a little more administrative work on the project.

After lunch Kim ordered some flowers and then had a quick catch up with a colleague for what the plan is over the weekend and where they will need support.

Kim spent the rest of the afternoon working on her Vancouver office floorplan and made great improvements to it. It’s not quite finished but it is a lot more useful and makes far more sense!

Hockey’s Back

Hockey was on again tonight, starting at 17:00, and it hasn’t been on for over a week as there was a break for the all-star game.

Curtis was happy it was back and was able to watch the whole game when he got home. The Leafs won, too, which was a bonus!

Kim got back home from work and relaxed until hockey was finished and then we made dinner.

We had plant-based mince meat in a spaghetti bolognese as Kim wanted to give it a go.

We watched some TV and just chilled out.

Place 72 – Day 153: Vancouver, BC – First Aid!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was still feeling under the weather this morning, so he decided to work from home, mostly to stop himself getting anyone else sick.

Curtis’ day was productive, but not massively busy. He got a couple of hours of project work completed and also got a bunch of tickets sorted, too.

After working, Curtis watched hockey and got his stuff ready for his hockey game!

Kim’s Day

Kim ran out to the shop to pick up cream, but also grabbed a chocolate croissant for herself and a coffee for her colleague. Just after she got back she had a meeting with her teammate and it was really good.

They caught up on a few of Kim’s questions and got up to speed on a few things.

Kim then hopped on a coffee date with a remote worker and had a lovely chat with them.

After that call Kim had a call with the travel agency it go over an issue that cropped up yesterday.

In the afternoon Kim went into the first aid meeting but then no one showed up, so instead she emptied a bookcase and moved it into the kitchen to become a book swap and games area.

Kim would love for this to bring a new social aspect into the workplace!

First Aid

Curtis got picked up by a teammate to go to hockey as Kim had training (still in the same area, so she was able to see Curtis’ game after).

Kim arrived an hour early to pole and luckily there was pole free so she was able to take the earlier class. She did the exotic class and loved it and then did the 505 class, but she was quite tired so didn’t do great, but it was so much fun!

Curtis’ hockey game went really well! He got an assist from a hard working play and the team won 3-1! They’ve now beaten every team in the league.

Kim didn’t get to the rink until half way through the 2nd period as the snow was so heavy, she was being careful driving and she also got some food.

During the game, someone on the other team really hurt their ankle, so Kim did first aid on him for a long while.

After the game, Kim drove home and the snow was really coming down! It’s meant to snow overnight and all day tomorrow, so there’ll be plenty around tomorrow too.

Place 72 – Day 136: Vancouver, BC – First Time UberEats

Crepes

We had crepes for breakfast, once we eventually got out of bed.

Kim made the same ones we had the other day, with Kinder Bueno minis in them.

Coffee

We got a coffee, of course, as a reward for going shopping and getting a few things, mostly cleaning products we ran out of.

Leafs

Curtis watched the Leafs game when we got back and Kim watched some Queer Eye.

UberEats

We used UberEats for the first time (Curtis has before, in New Zealand, but this was the first time we have used it together).

We had no problems with it at all, compared to the other company we used before, and it’s a much better app, too!

We got an Indian takeaway, from where we usually do, and it was excellent.

We ate that and then watched the film Downsizing.

Place 72 – Day 211: Vancouver, BC – 2nd Ever Leafs Game!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis didn’t have much planned again today, but it soon added up!

Curtis did a lot of tickets and then his afternoon was taken up with starting a project in which he needed to contact a lot of users and ask them some questions and give them some advice and feedback, and then he needed to discuss with his team.

Curtis got a bit of reading done for his Business Analyst training done and then left work.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by catching up on some emails before heading into the remote workers quarterly social catch up. They had a great 30 minute catch up with new and older employees! It was wonderful!

After this meeting Kim spoke with the taco company from yesterday to complete the order for lunch for the other office. She then moved on to organising a FedEx delivery to go out.

Kim then set up the catering for a day long meeting and about an hour later cleared it away.

A while after this Kim had the monthly first aid meeting which went well, a lot of good questions were bought up and some great plans made for the new year!

2nd Ever Leafs Game!

We met after work and went out for some food.We walked past a Japanese place, which looked authentic and delicious so we thought we would give it a go.

We were not disappointed!

We both got chicken katsu curry and it was a huge portion and incredibly delicious. The chicken was excellent (maybe a little too fried, but still great) and the sauce was perfectly thick, combined with terrific rice. This filled us up perfectly!

We left here and walked to Rogers Arena to watch the Maple Leafs play against the Canucks.

This was our 2nd time watching the Leafs play, but this time, we went lower down in the seats to watch the warm up, which was amazing!

The game began and right from the start it was a pretty good one!

The 1st period ended 0-0, but there were some chances at either end.The Leafs took the 2nd period 2-0, with 2 pretty nice goals.

The leafs managed to seal the deal, after Vancouver made it 2-1, and the leafs got another goal and an empty net goal to get the win!

The leafs eventually won 4-1!

It was a really, really fun game to be at, and we loved every second!

After the game, we walked home.

Once we got back, we watched a little bit of TV and then went off to bed as it was 22:00 by the time we got back.

Curtis has a hockey game tomorrow, but probably won’t have the same amount of people watching it!

Place 72 – Day 208: Vancouver, BC – A Christmas Tree

Last Night’s Hockey Game

Curtis’ hockey game last night was a good one!

Curtis’ team had a lot of spare people playing, but it turned out to be pretty good!

Curtis had a lot of chances and his team in general did actually, and they were playing the 2nd place team, too.

The score ended 1-0 to the other team, but everyone really enjoyed themselves and tried their hardest, which was the best!

Haircut

Curtis had a haircut at 13:15 today, so after our relaxed morning, he walked down to Gastown to get that done.

He had the same barber as he had last time, an Australian guy, so luckily the barber knew what Curtis wanted and could work on that for him easily!

Coffee & A Christmas Tree

We went to get a coffee after Curtis’ haircut, just up at the Starbucks by our house.

Once we were done with out coffee, we popped into Canadian Tire and bought ourselves a Christmas tree and some decorations to go on it…we plan to set this up sometime tomorrow.

Cheese & Wine

Curtis watched hockey when we got back and Kim watched some Queer Eye.

After both of these finished, we went up to the shop to get some cheeses so we could have wine and cheese again!

To do this though, we also needed wine, so we jumped into the liquor store to get that, too.

A Film

During our wine and cheese night, we watched a film that Kim has seen before, but wanted to watch called what to expect when you’re expecting.

It was actually not a bad film and Curtis enjoyed it more than he thought he would.

After watching that, we watched some YouTube videos and then went to bed…Kim is up fairly early tomorrow (for a Sunday anyway) and has a bit of a busy day planned!

Place 72 – Day 201: Vancouver, BC – Christmas Market 🎄

Shopping

Kim was up at a good time to head down and meet Linda so they could do some shopping!

Curtis stayed home and caught up with some sleep after his early start yesterday.

49th Parallel Coffee

Curtis walked down to meet Kim and Linda for a coffee!

We went to 49th Parallel because their coffee is just fantastic!

Christmas Market

We walked down to the Christmas market after a little bit more looking around shops.

The Christmas market looked small, but we went in anyway.

It turns out, it was quite big, with over 50 little huts!

This Christmas market was ‘German’ so a lot of them items and even staff were German!

We walked around for a couple of hours checking out all of the different stalls as well as purchasing a few things. We had some tasters too, of course.

It got colder and colder whilst we were out, so we got a pretzel to keep us warm!

Whilst we ate our pretzels, we queued up for the German handcrafted gifts tent, which was a big German company that makes intricate small wooden Christmas decorations. These were very expensive but they did look cool!

We were also very glad to be inside and warm.

We left here and went to get some food. We all had a goulash in a bread roll bowl…it was very delicious, very winter-y and exactly what we wanted.

We sat in a big tent and ate this and then just relaxed in there for a while.

After that was done, we were all funned out and so we headed out.

We went back to Kim’s work as we left some bags there, so we had to get them.

We walked Linda back to her hotel and we parted ways, but we’re seeing each other tomorrow!

More Shopping

Curtis watched hockey once we got home and Kim went out to burnaby for a bit more shopping for herself as there was something out there she was looking for.

Once she got home, we sat and watched some TV together and basically just did nothing with our Saturday night.

Place 72 – Day 198: Vancouver, BC – Helpin’ Out

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a lot of tickets to get done or chase up on today, so that kept him nice and busy, as well as a few new tickets he had to pick up.

Curtis had a call with a user and also an external support team to try and figure out an issue, which took about 45 minutes.

Curtis didn’t know how to do something he had seen a ticket for, so after he tested the boardroom to ensure it was working for a meeting, he did a 30 minute call with someone on his team so they could show him what to do.

After getting that done, Curtis had lunch and then after lunch, he had some project work to do, which was mostly just developing and writing up a process as well as creating a flow chart for it.

Once that was done, Curtis walked home.

Kim’s Day

Kim doesn’t really have much to report on today! She spent her her morning organising a meeting room for someone so had to kick people put of one and find others for them and talking with a hotel in regards to some local accommodation that needs to be booked.

For the afternoon Kim was talking with all the vendors for the holiday party and taking a fair few incoming calls. She also ordered the regular pizza for tomorrow.

That’s it in a nutshell really!

Helpin’ Out

Curtis got home crazy fast and watched the Leafs game, where they did very well!

As well as that, Curtis washed his hockey kit and folded and put away some laundry that we had out.

Kim got home briefly and then went back out again to go and help out at pole.

Kim went to the pole studio to help out at reception. This involved greeting people, handing out wrist bands and answering any questions when the receptionist was busy. As a result of helping, Kim now has a spare class!

After Kim’s pole help, she came home and had some dinner, then went up to the supermarket to get a few things.

We watched some TV and Kim ordered some things she needed for the holiday party.
