Place 72 – Day 920: Vancouver, BC – Nearly Overslept!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did indeed stay up and watch Great Britain play their final game. They ended up finishing 13/16 which was a huge achievement for them! The game last night ended 6-3 to Switzerland which was a much better result than anyone expected.

Whilst it was great to watch hockey, going to bed at 04:30 and waking at 08:30 wasn’t too great and Curtis paid the price today! He felt very tired in the morning but felt better as the day progressed, which was good, as it got busy!

It also didn’t help that we almost overslept as we forgot to set the right alarm!

Curtis had a bit of work to do in the morning and then had a call with Microsoft about a few different things.

After his call, he had a Norwegian lesson an it was really, really good! He was speaking without really thinking which was great.

After that, and for most of the rest of the day, he was in and out of meetings regarding one particular issue which he also had to write up some documentation for and make some notes.

He was able to get some tickets done in the afternoon as well as some other admin before calling it a day.

Kim’s Day

Today was a long and meeting filled day! Kim started her day having a chat about a trivia night that the company is parking up with another company for on Friday! She then gave a quick update at the finance meeting before having a quick chat with a new starter to see how their first week was.

After giving an update in the weekly meeting Kim joined a great meet the team to hang out with her new team members, it was awesome! She then had a connect with each of the new starters to give them an overview of the past few months or allocate work for the next couple of weeks.

To start the afternoon Kim joined a recruitment meeting and then went into a candidate review and mini forecast meeting. She was then able to get some admin done before showing her new teammate the folder structure and where they can find things.

In the late afternoon Kim sat down with a few executive members to discuss a new role. She then went into an interview and spent the evening working on some admin of emails and reorganising a couple of documents.

Evening

We had chicken burgers again, Kim made a bunch the other day so they’re nice and easy to have!

We had those with some leftover sweet potato fries and chilled out for the evening, along with a nice walk.

We were meant to be selling our old sofa tomorrow, but the person cancelled which is frustrating!

Place 72 – Day 899: Vancouver, BC – Delicious Risotto

Curtis’ Day

Curtis thought he had a meeting at 09:30, but he didn’t. This freed up some time to get some work done.

At 10:00, Curtis had his Norwegian lesson and then right after that he spent a lot of time trying to get his project completed, which he thought he eventually did.

Curtis also had to talk someone through doing something to hopefully fix some issues that Curtis has been trying to fix for the last month or so.

In the afternoon, after finally being able to have some lunch, Curtis did plan to do some training he needed to do to prepare for later in the week, but unfortunately it turned out the thing be setup for the project earlier didn’t actually work as expected, so it was back to the drawing board and he discussed it with his team as well as trying to figure some things out himself. That means a lot of tomorrow will be taken up with that, too!

Kim’s Day

Kim had 9 meetings today! The first was to discuss a software that the company are thinking of putting in place but then it morphed into a planning meeting to discuss how to review software requests in general. It was a very productive and interesting meeting. Before the company meeting Kim had a quick call with a teammate to hand over a few items. She then joined the company wide meeting and took notes.

Kim then had a planning meeting with a couple of the exec team members and the meeting was crashed by a few people who jumped in. She then provided an update to the finance team in their meeting.

She then had a little break and got some admin done before joining a recruitment meeting and went from that straight into a meeting with Development and IT to organise a few things. She then had a chat with a hopeful new employee before ending the day by reviewing candidates in the pipeline.

Delicious Risotto

We went out for a walk after work and stopped by the liquor store to get some white wine to put in our risotto!

Kim was making her incredible risotto, which took about 45 minutes once we got back. It was terrific as ever and we watched some TV whilst we ate that and afterwards, also.

Place 72 – Day 573: Vancouver, BC – More Courier Woes!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had some tickets and other work to get done in the morning, including some admin for someone going on parental leave.

Once he did that he had his Norwegian lesson, which seems to go better and better each time!

Curtis was meant to have a meeting in the afternoon but that got cancelled, so Curtis got a lot of tickets done which was great! A very productive day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a day full of meetings today! She started off with some admin and getting things set up for the next few weeks before joining and presenting in the weekly meeting.

She then facilitated a project meeting, it was so productive and interesting. Kim then joined a call to discuss potentially working with a vendor in regards to training. That meeting also went well and Kim is excited to see what the next steps are.

In the afternoon Kim hosted a procurement meeting to discuss how the process should work and then Kim joined a meeting to go over how an interview went during the day.

She finished the day by calling FedEx to get an update in regards to a delivery. It wasn’t great news and Kim found out the delivery would be attempted again the following day.

Kim then did a little more admin and ticked a few things off of her list.

Evening

Kim popped out to get a few things from the shop for dinner and we had a Santa Fe salad for dinner with spicy chicken which was excellent!

We played games and watched TV for the rest of the evening. The days seem so long now that daylight savings is in effect.

Place 72 – Day 545: Vancouver, BC – Pancake Day!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was meant to have a call with someone at 09:30 but they had a conflict, so he just had a very brief chat with them instead.

At 10:30, Curtis had his Norwegian lesson which was great, and then he had back to back meetings.

The first was a project update meeting, with very little to do in that once, then the next meeting was a team catch-up meeting in which some good topics were discussed.

As it was the first day after a stat day, it was pretty busy on the support front, but it kept Curtis busy!

He was able to have a meeting with someone to get an issue sorted for them, and it seemed that he got it working, which was great as it was a long standing issue.

Kim’s Day

To start the day Kim sent a lot of emails to catch up from last week and get ready for the week coming. She then spent the rest of the morning in meetings! She gave an update in the weekly meeting, then she supported a project meeting and finally she joined a meeting to discuss new job openings.

In the afternoon Kim had a quick call with a vendor and then sent out a survey for a new event coming up in a month. Kim then popped out to drop off a laptop to someone and then popped by the supermarket on the way home to pick up a few things for dinners for the week.

Once she was home Kim worked on some contracts for new starters and got a few other things done too.

Evening

It’s Pancake Day today! Really, though, we just wanted to have pancakes, so why not use that as an excuse!

We had breakfast for dinner with pancakes, hash browns, sausage (for Curtis) beans and egg.

We ate that and had more pancakes for dessert with chocolate.

We watched some TV and relaxed from our busy days.

Place 72 – Day 531: Vancouver, BC – It’s Our Turn

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a slow morning, just doing a bit of admin and a few quick tickets.

He had his Norwegian lesson at 10:30 and then had a meeting right after to discuss some project requirements.

Once that meeting was done, he had to craft and send an email from that project, which he did, then he did some more tickets up until lunch.

Post lunch, he had some people message him with some issues so he did that, then he spent the remainder of the day getting the project work completed that he started yesterday. He was able to get it working how he wanted, which is great, now he just need to make some finishing touches and show it to the team tomorrow.

Once that was done, it was cleaning time as we had another showing at our apartment today (and possibly this weekend) even though we expected yesterday to be the last.

Kim’s Day

At the start of her day Kim had a quick call about the facilities project before joining a quick team meeting that will have happening each morning this week and then Kim joined a call to set up someone’s new laptop.

Towards the end of the morning Kim joined the weekly company wide meeting and gave an update. She then worked on a new survey to go out to all of the employees.

At 2 Kim hosted a wellness break for people to join as a lot of teams have a lot going on this week. Everyone joined the call and followed along to a guided meditation talk. People really enjoyed it and went back to work rejuvenated, which was fantastic!

For the rest of the afternoon Kim worked on updating a job posting and made a couple of LinkedIn posts too.

Evening

We walked down the street to an apartment to take a look at it as we wanted to see some 2 bed apartments around the city.

We didn’t like it too much, it was a strange shape, and not really 2 bedroom.

We came back home and waited downstairs to view a 2 bedroom apartment in our current building, which is convenient.

We actually really liked this apartment!

We headed out to the store right after to get a few items for dinner and then headed back home.

We made dinner, the potato/pea & cheese ‘thing’ as it’s super easy and delicious.

Kim got invited to apply for provincial nomination today, the same thing Curtis got invited to, so that she can use it to get a work permit a little easier.

Due to getting invited, Kim did a bit of the admin for that in the evening.

We watched some TV and chilled once Kim got that done.

We have no viewings, either for us or for our apartment, tomorrow so it’s a big relax evening!

Place 72 – Day 517: Vancouver, BC – Requirements Discussion & HR Things

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very busy morning with many questions and tickets being directed his way.

At 10:30, Curtis had a Norwegian lesson which went excellently and then he got back to many messages and tickets again.

Shortly after finishing his lesson, he had a meeting around a project to discuss requirements and ensure that everyone was on the same page. That went well and progress was made, which is terrific!

We had some lunch and then Curtis did some project work and managed to start and finish a project in an hour.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by continuing on with putting some of the HR documents on to the HR system as a template. She then joined the weekly meeting and provided updates for the department she is in.

After the meeting Kim wrote up a few things for her colleague and sent them over. She then joined a meeting to discuss a candidate, which went well.

In the afternoon Kim focused on finishing the HR paperwork she started earlier and also updated some other information on that system too.

Kim also managed to get a few things done for the facilities project.

Evening

Kim went out to the shop to get some wine for the dinner (and to drink a little, of course) and something from the pharmacy.

We made a mushroom and tomato pasta which we’ve not had for a while and it was excellent!

We ate and relaxed for the evening and had a few discussions with the agent who is selling our apartment with regards to what we need to do etc.

Place 72 – Day 468: Vancouver, BC – Application Consultation

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got up when Kim was up and had some breakfast, showered and then played some games for a little bit.

After that, he had his Norwegian lesson and then just played games and chilled out for most of the remainder of the day.

When Kim had her consultant chat with regards to the PR and work permits, Curtis followed along and did some research for it.

Kim’s Day

Kim joined the weekly company meeting and they did the usual stuff and updates before wishing someone a happy birthday! Kim organised gift vouchers for everyone so they can get cake, and then use the rest of the voucher for the winter party coming up. They all sang happy birthday and ate cake and it was amazing!

After the meting Kim went out to look at offices, she saw two new ones and popped by one from last week to take a video of it. Then when she was back at home Kim updated the photos and videos as well as made a few notes about each of the spaces.

For the early afternoon Kim made email profiles for new starters and continued to update the onboarding process for new hires.

Kim also had a meeting about a new role that the company is hiring for, its the same role Kim wrote the job posting for. They spoke about the kind of candidate they are looking for and some of the aspects of the role.

Kim had a chat with a PR consultant about our application, the chances of us being accepted and the remaining steps etc. We got some good information and clarity there!

Kim finished her day by looking into a new software for a department within the company and working on the winter partys quiz.

Evening

We had a very healthy dinner of potato, chicken nuggets & corn with Nandos sauce and then some nacho cheese on top for good measure!

We watched some TV, played some games and did some more research, made some decisions and discussed our PR application and some related items around that.

We then watched some more TV and chilled out.

Place 72 – Day 454: Vancouver, BC – Facilities Project

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a chat with someone right away in the morning as they had deleted a lot of shared files, so Curtis had to work getting those back (which took about an hour).

After that, Curtis had a Norwegian lesson which went really, really well!

After the lesson, Curtis did a few tickets and then had some lunch.

After lunch, the day slowed down for Curtis so he got some admin done and a bit of other work. He had to investigate some quarantined files for someone and see if they are safe to allow.

Kim’s Day

To get ready for the weekly company wide meeting Kim added to her notes she has been making over the past week and checked last weeks notes.

After the meeting Kim joined another meeting that was going over a job description for a potential new role. It was really interesting as yesterday Kim had made a job description template and it was really fun to see the few things she had thought of already and also learn the many things she had forgotten or overlooked.

For the last part of the morning Kim spent some time arranging meetings for Kims facilities project that she will be working on in the afternoon, which was interesting. Then Kim wrote up and sent out the invite for the winter party, which was great as it was something that Kim had wanted to get sorted for a few days!

Before Kim went out for the afternoon she wrote up a lot of the information for the connect four tournament that she will be running over the next few weeks / months. She didn’t manage to send out the information, but she got a lot of it ready!

Kim then went out and met her colleague for the facilities project and attended a few meetings. It was a really interesting and fun afternoon that Kim will be able to say more about at some point!

After all the meetings Kim and her colleague went to a craft store to pick up a few items for an upcoming event. When she got home Kim wrote up a summary of the day and then sent out the information and sign up sheet for the connect four tournament! Today was a long, successful and very fun day!

Evening

Once Kim got back home and finished her little bit of work, we had the final bit of lasagna and watched some TV. That was pretty much all we did for the evening!

Place 72 – Day 440: Vancouver, BC – Making Strides With Norwegian

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was meant to have a meeting with someone in his company and an external support person, but the external person didn’t appear, so it didn’t happen!

Curtis therefore got some other work done.

At 10:30, Curtis had his Norwegian ‘lesson’ and learned a lot, actually, which he was really happy about! He felt he wasn’t speaking very good Norwegian, but learning a lot was a good feeling.

After that, Curtis spent most of the rest of the day getting tickets done as well as some security work that came up.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with the weekly company wide meeting, it was great to meet everyone, hear what is happening in other departments and get to know the product a bit better.

For most of the day Kim was researching softwares that might be needed soon. So it was a lot of finding one thing, reading about it, heading to a comparison site and then writing up about it.

In the afternoon, one of the companies got back to Kim so they had a quick call to go over some questions, talk about what Kim is looking for and learn more about pricing. This was a great help and Kim was then able to write a more precise overview as a result. She will start to set up a few more meetings with other companies over the next couple of days.

Towards the end if the day Kim reached out to a friend to see if they would be interested in a collaboration between the two companies that they both work in, so that could be interesting!

Evening

We had chicken chilli with potato for dinner which was delicious and we watched some Bake Off with it.

We played a lot of Need for Speed and Curtis was keeping up on the (far too close) US election.

Place 72 – Day 390: Vancouver, BC – The Megadesk Lives!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did some tickets and then at 10:00 he had a 1 hour long Norwegian lesson! He had a really good time doing that and again, as like last time, it was a full Norwegian conversation which was excellent.

After this, there were a lot of tickets for Curtis to do and then after lunch he walked to the office.

Whilst at the office, Curtis noticed a server had an error on it! Luckily, it’s not fatal, but some parts need to be fixed or replaced.

Curtis got a new monitor from the stock room and got that ready for someone to pickup, which is why he was at the office.

The person collected the monitor and Curtis went back home again, but with a stop at a Starbucks to meet with Kim briefly and to get a coffee.

Curtis did a bit of admin when he got home and then was done for the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent the morning labelling peoples desks that she will clear out. For some she was able to use their instructions over messenger to find their desk and for others Kim had to call them and be directed.

She also took some time to draft up some emails she will send out over the coming weeks as had a brainwave of communication that she wants to say. So she quickly wrote it all down while she could remember!

In the afternoon Kim moved all the monitors from the desks where they were being stored and moved them to another area in the office so she could work on setting up the first couple of mega desks.

About halfway through reorganising the furniture Kim went and met the vendor for the plants to let her into the office and Kim took a little break a while in to go and meet Curtis for a coffee.

Once Kim had removed all the furniture she started measuring out the distance between the banks of desks and also put a few of the drawers that are not being used under the desk for storage. Kim then emptied a few of the desks and stored those items under the new desk.

Once Kim finished the desks she worked on emptying other people’s desks. She cleared the tables, put everything into their drawers, labelled the items and tagged the table so she knew it had been done. It was a very successful day and Kim is happy with how quickly the desks come together when the spaces is empty.

Evening

When Kim got home, we took out the recycling and we then had some homemade tomato and mushroom pasta!

We watched some TV and played some games, but not much as it was almost 21:00 by the time we finished eating.
