Curtis had a lot of meetings booked for today, so he was up a little early to get ready for those.

The first meeting was a team meeting to discuss the projects coming up for the next two weeks.

After that, there was meant to be another meeting but that got rescheduled so Curtis had a little bit of time to go through some tickets and get other admin done.

Curtis then had another team meeting to discuss random things.

There was a little more time for a break and then Curtis had to join another workshop to learn more new things. This lasted for most of the day and then he had a few things to do at the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a meeting heavy day today, but it was all super interesting! She started with a quick chat with her teammate to check in and make sure they have everything they need the. She gave an update in the weekly company meeting.

There was then an hour break where Kim was able to log costs and pull information together for finance. She then gave a quick update to the finance meeting before having some lunch.

After lunch Kim joined an interview and it was so interesting. She then had a call with her teammate to update them on how the interview went and next steps. She then had a quick planning meeting with another teammate.

To finish the day Kim had a great conversation with a department lead to discuss career progression with their teams. It was so interesting and Kim really enjoyed it. She then had another planning meeting with her teammate to make agendas for meetings coming up, start some early stages events planning and get organised on a few projects.

Later in the evening Kim set up a laptop to swap out for a current employee.

Evening

Kim worked for a while and then we took out the recycling and made dinner. We had garlic and herb chicken skewers, mango and chilli chicken skewers and corn on the cob with potato salad leftover from yesterday.

Kim got her new desk setup whilst we waited for dinner to cook and setup her office in a new configuration!

We watched a small bit of TV once Kim was done with work and that was it!

Curtis had a company-wide meeting to discuss what’s currently going in around the business and to get some updates on some things. These are always super interesting and informative.

Once that was done, Curtis had a few tickets to get done throughout the day and also he had quite a few discussions with his team and other teams about different processes, getting an order of laptops completed as well as getting some information about some onboards.

Curtis did some very interesting Norwegian homework to end the day and then watched hockey.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim had a fair few meetings! A couple were HR based and one was about recruitment. She also had some training on the benefits platform and how everything for that works too. The training was so great and Kim was so relieved to understand things a little more.

Just after midday Kim joined the weekly recruitment meeting and then she hosted the weekly dance off. This week they danced to Gangnam Style. Then Kim co-hosted an interview

In the afternoon Kim joined another recruitment call and then had two catch ups with people after the meeting.

Later in the evening Kim joined a call to discuss a design project that she might be helping with. It was really interesting and she can’t wait to help out!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had some tickets and other work to get done in the morning, including some admin for someone going on parental leave.

Once he did that he had his Norwegian lesson, which seems to go better and better each time!

Curtis was meant to have a meeting in the afternoon but that got cancelled, so Curtis got a lot of tickets done which was great! A very productive day.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a day full of meetings today! She started off with some admin and getting things set up for the next few weeks before joining and presenting in the weekly meeting.

She then facilitated a project meeting, it was so productive and interesting. Kim then joined a call to discuss potentially working with a vendor in regards to training. That meeting also went well and Kim is excited to see what the next steps are.

In the afternoon Kim hosted a procurement meeting to discuss how the process should work and then Kim joined a meeting to go over how an interview went during the day.

She finished the day by calling FedEx to get an update in regards to a delivery. It wasn’t great news and Kim found out the delivery would be attempted again the following day.

Kim then did a little more admin and ticked a few things off of her list.

Evening

Kim popped out to get a few things from the shop for dinner and we had a Santa Fe salad for dinner with spicy chicken which was excellent!

We played games and watched TV for the rest of the evening. The days seem so long now that daylight savings is in effect.

Place 72 – Day 559: Vancouver, BC – We Definitely Have A New Apartment!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had his Norwegian lesson in the morning which went incredibly well! He had a great conversation that flowed naturally.

After that, he had back to back meetings. The first was a project update meeting and the second was to understand some issues for a team and make a plan of how to resolve those.

Once that meeting was done and Kim was done with her meeting, we took our lunch break and used it to go to the apartment we were offered just to make sure it’s what we want…which it was! The landlord was amazing and the space was even more perfect then we thought.

We verbally agreed to sign and got all the paperwork to sort out!

For some of the afternoon, Curtis looked up about swapping internet providers to save some money at the new apartment, as well as hired a moving company as we are super lazy and can’t be bothered to do it ourselves.

We got that done and looked over the lease agreement and contract etc.

Kim’s Day

Kim worked in a few documents to be ready for meetings for the day. She then joined a recruitment meeting to discuss one departments needs for the next few months. Kim was able to get a great idea of the roles needed and how to put together the job descriptions for them.

She then presented in the weekly meeting before joining the weekly project huddle.

After the viewing Kim did a little training with her new teammate and made sure that they have the right log ins and accesses. She then had a meeting with another teammate to go over documents that they have been working on.

To finish the day Kim did a little admin and then popped out to a shop to pick up something that had been delivered. It turns out that it hasn’t been delivered, so Kim went to another shop for some things for dinner and then headed home.

Evening

When Kim finished work, we made some food (just some seasoned chicken in a wrap with cheese, BBQ sauce and mayo) then we went out to the supermarket to do our shop.

Once we got back, we took out the bins and then we looked at some additional furniture we will need for our new apartment, most notably a desk and chair each, as we’ll each have dedicated office areas, which is exciting!

Curtis also bought himself a monitor to work and play games on.

We relaxed for what was left of the evening…it was a busy one!

Place 72 – Day 553: Vancouver, BC – Training, Training, Training

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a small team meeting at 09:30 and then at 10:30 he had a training session from someone on his team that was showing everyone how to do some something with a security software. This was very helpful and interesting!

After that was done, they’re was another team meeting that lasted for 2.5 hours!

Once Curtis had some lunch, he then had a training session in which he went over some software with someone so that they knew how to use it and had the chance to ask any questions. The person really appreciated that and Curtis felt good helping them!

He did a bit of admin after that and then the day was over and it was time to watch hockey.

Kim’s Day

To start the day Kim set up accounts for new starters and set up a few things for them. Kim then joined a meeting in regards to hiring with another department. She then joined a team meeting to discuss all things operations.

At midday Kim hosted the social lunch and they played a couple of games of among us. It was so fun and everyone had a good time!

In the afternoon Kim sent out a few emails and worked in some projects. She also had a meeting about HR things and then hosted a training session with her team mate. To finish the day Kim continued setting up a laptop for a new starter.

Evening

Kim went to go to a viewing of an apartment whilst Curtis was watching hockey, but the person was late, which actually meant that Curtis was able to go too as hockey finished in time.

Curtis met Kim there and we looked around the apartment. It was large and very nice, but there are a few things that we aren’t sure about.

We got back home and Kim chatted with a former colleague and then made Butter Chicken from our HelloFresh box which we got for free! It was pretty tasty and super easy to make.

We watched some TV and relaxed and chatted about the apartments we have seen to decide our current rankings.

Place 72 – Day 541: Vancouver, BC – Unconscious Bias Training

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a training session for unconscious bias which was very enlightening and very good for everyone at the company.

That lastest for 2 hours and Curtis felt very informed afterwards.

Right after, he had another meeting which was all about security and that was interesting.

Curtis then had 30 minutes to get some work done then had some lunch.

After lunch, he had a team meeting that lasted for about 1.5 hours and was all about planning future projects.

After that meeting, Curtis had some work to do from that meeting, so he had to create an plan out an entire large project.

Curtis then did some other work followed by a Norwegian test which he’s doing out of interest.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a much slower day today. She had a quick call in the morning and managed to check back through the week and see the things she had missed. Towards the middle of the day she had a meeting with a couple of people to discuss new hires and a few other projects or topics. It was extremely helpful, interesting and fun!

After that call she had a quick chat with her teammate to go over the week and catch up, which was so helpful again. Kim also managed to give her a heads up on things happening next week, which was fun!

For the rest of the afternoon Kim caught up on work that she hadn’t managed to achieve during the week. Then to finish the day she had a quick call with a colleague. Kim then accidentally worked on the invite, budget and survey for another event coming up. She was super happy with the invite she pulled together!

Evening

For dinner, we ordered from Peaked Pies. We each got a pie with mashed potato and peas. Kim got a chicken, mushroom and leak pie, whilst Curtis got a traditional Aussie pie (ground beef, onion & gravy).

We really enjoyed that and ate it whilst watching To All The Boys: Always & Forever. Nice easy film to watch, and the third in the trilogy.

Place 72 – Day 485: Vancouver, BC – Celebrations

Curtis’ Day

Today was the final day of the virtual retreat. There were meetings from 08:30 and there were a wide range of topics, including work things but also some non work topics, such as information on Bitcoin which was very interesting.

In the late afternoon, there were 2 more meetings. The first was a social gathering for anyone in the Vancouver office. This was a virtual holiday party. There were awards handed out as well as some quizzes and games!

Right after that, Curtis had a similar thing with his team for about 1.5 hours which was really fun and nice to hang out with them.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a lazy work day today, she started by sending an email to a candidate and drawing up their new starter paperwork. Then she called the candidate to set up a meeting for the afternoon between them and someone in the company so they can have an informal chat. To finish the morning Kim set up the accounts and then sent over the offer paperwork!

In the afternoon Kim organised some things for an event in the new year. She started by making a quick version of the invite and purring together some of the information people will need.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim did lots of little admin things that she had been meaning to do for a while. She started a vendor list, made a few reports, started a new job description, did some research and organised a few meetings for in the new year and next week.

Evening

We decided on Korean for dinner so we ordered some Korean chicken.

We played some SuperHot until it arrived and then watched Megamind whilst we ate.

After that, we watched the final episode of The Queen’s Gambit and then we watched the first episode of Season 2 of Hjem Til Jul a Norwegian Netflix show about Christmas, which we have been waiting for!

We watched some YouTube and other TV, as well as played some games for the remainder of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 442: Vancouver, BC – It’s So Dark Now!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a lot of tickets to do this morning so he got those done.

At 11:45, he left the apartment and went to get a haircut! The haircut was fairly quick and once he got that done he got a coffee for himself and Kim and then headed back home.

When Curtis got home, he ate some food but also had a lot more tickets to do so he did those.

Curtis also did a little bit of project work at the end of the day and then finished up.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a busy day today. She started by drafting up and invite for a potential event next month and then did some research into activities and things that can be done virtually. She also did some more research on a different software that the company needs.

Just before lunch Kim decided to see if anyone would like to play a game of Skribbl, no one had time today but were interested in doing it next week, so she sent out an invite and how to play for next Friday!

In the afternoon Kim got stuck into her research for the new software, so much so that she was late to a HR meeting. The HR meeting went well and it was great to see how they work. She took notes and had a quick meeting after with her colleague to go over some questions Kim had.

Before a catch up meeting with the HR software company Kim has been talking with this week Kim took some time to make some plans and notes for the next few weeks and added to processes that she has started writing up.

Kim had a few questions for the HR management software company so they organised a call to go over all the questions. It really helped Kim have a better understanding of the product and how it will help and work within the company, so that was great!

To end the day Kim had training on how to set up a new mailbox. Kims colleague toom her through step by step so Kim could do the process and take notes!

Evening

It got dark around 16:00 today, now the days are so much darker!

We did a lot of housework once we finished work and then we had some pizza for dinner.

We played some games and watched some TV, the usual stuff.

Place 72 – Day 412: Vancouver, BC – Not What She Thought

Curtis’ Day

Curtis didn’t have any meeting until 10:30, when he had his Norwegian lesson which went really well.

Once that was done, Curtis had meeting with a few people from his team but also some people from another team which was an information around onboarding.

After lunch, Curtis setup some accounts for a new user and then he did a couple of tickets to end the day.

Kim’s Day

After a nice lazy morning Kim was putting lunch together when she got a phone call from a company asking her in for an interview and the role title was something that she was interested in so she agreed to come in tomorrow. Kim was so excited and happy to see an application submitted yesterday come through so quickly!

After lunch Kim then did a little research on the company and asked for a job description for her to refer to and read through before the interview. The company didn’t have a written job description that they could send over and it had some negative reviews, this made Kim a little uneasy. After a few hours and a bit of back and forth communication, Kim decided to pull her application for the position.

The reviews made the role sound more like a sales position over what was listed and Kim doesn’t want to work in sales, its not a good fit for her.

So for the rest of the afternoon Kim wrote some good cover letters for a few open positions that would fit Kim perfectly. Last week Kim was avoiding applying for any roles that have been listed for more than a few weeks thinking that they would have just forgotten to be removed, but thats not smart. The company may just not have found the right fit yet and Kim may be that perfect fit, so she is really happy with the applications sent out today. Tomorrow Kim will review the saved roles and send out more applications!

Walk

We had leftover curry for dinner and watched a bit of TV, then we went for a nice long walk. It was around 19:30 so it was dark and there were much less people out. It was a super relaxing walk.

We got back and watched some more TV before we slept.

It’s Curtis’ first hockey game tomorrow, as well as his first solo drive in 2 years (and on the other side of the road) so we shall see how that goes!

Place 72 – Day 296: Vancouver, BC – Confronting Anti-Black Racism in Canada Webinar

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a lot of meetings today! 6 in total, which is a lot for him.

His first meeting was fairly early and was to discuss the return to work plan.

After that, he had a 1 on 1 chat and then his daily team meeting.

After that, Curtis had a bit of break to get tickets done and then had a training session learning about something from someone else in the company which was interesting.

After that meeting, Curtis did some tickets and then had lunch.

After lunch, Curtis had another team meeting, his weekly one.

Right after that meeting he had his final meeting of the day which was a project update.

He did some tickets and some security work after that, followed by some project admin.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a few emails come in over the weekend so she sorted through those before fixing a link on the Wiki and adding a new link.

She then spent part of her morning on admin, she reached out to the local hotels to see how the reps are, talked to IT and sales

After the admin Kim realised she hadn’t done a game of Who Are You in a while, so she sent out an invite to a game on Thursday and started making the questions. Once she had the questions she started finding pictures to go with them.

In the afternoon Kim had a team meeting that went so well. It was also great to see how everyone was and make some good plans for the next few weeks.

She had a few things to work on as a result of the meeting so Kim made notes for tomorrow, ordered a few things and started to create a log on excel.

To finish the day Kim joined a webinar that was about confronting Anti-Black Racism in Canada, orgnaised by a feminist group and it was amazing and Kim learned a lot.

Chicken Burgers!

We had chicken burgers for dinner! Kim made these once she was done with her webinar and it was very delicious! We had some chicken pieces with coconut on them on the side too. As well as that, we had homemade salsa and homemade potato salad!

We watched some TV and relaxed for the evening.
