Place 72 – Day 924: Vancouver, BC – Sleeping Is Great!

We woke up at around 12:00, which was far too late, but we slept through our alarms so we clearly needed to sleep. On the plus side, we love sleep, so we weren’t too annoyed.

The weather was meant to be bad today, but it was actually alright, so we decided that once we get ready, we’ll for a walk.

We had some breakfast sandwiches and then we got ourselves ready and went out to the beach, but we walked to Peaked Pies first to get ourselves a coffee! They do some of the best coffee we have had in Vancouver so far, so why not walk there and get some?

We then walked to the beach and even say at the beach and just watched the world go buy. It started to rain a little, so we took that as a sign to head back.

We walked back along the seawall and stopped off at a shop to get a few things for dinner.

We just had a simple dinner and once we finished eating, we watched a film! We watched Army of The Dead which was pretty silly but actually not bad, though a little long.

Kim then ordered some things she needed to order for work and then we watched a little more TV. The weather is not meant to be good tomorrow, so we plan to do very little.

Place 72 – Day 907: Vancouver, BC – Candidate Reviews

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a 09:00 meeting which was a company wide meeting to get information.

Once that meeting was done, he jumped on a call to help someone with a process flow and then he had a team meeting right after that.

After all those meetings, Curtis spent some time trying to figure out a strange issue with installing some software that someone was having.

Curtis had some lunch and then had a team meeting to discuss the team’s vision. This went really well and took the full hour!

Curtis got some more ticket work completed after this and then did his Norwegian homework.

Kim’s Day

Today, Kim started the day with some research and completing a few quick wins. She then joined a weekly recruitment meeting before joining a meeting discussing the structure of a department.

She then had a quick interview review meeting with a couple of people who had interviews over the past couple of days. She had a sit down with her team to discuss a few items and plan for the next few months and balance work. Then she had to call UPS to figure out what the delay with a delivery has been and get that all sorted out.

After lunch Kim joined a meeting with the consultancy firm she used and then had a team planning meeting where they started outlining work and assigning tasks.

Kim joined a candidate review and processed next steps for a few applicants and then she had a quick call with a teammate to catch up from the week. Her teammate was heading into an evening meeting so Kim gatecrashed and had a great surprise meeting with wine!!

Evening

Kim needed to work a bit later than normal, so she did that whilst Curtis played some games.

After working, we had some more of our homemade 3 bean chicken chilli and just watched some TV for the evening.

Place 72 – Day 905: Vancouver, BC – Please Just Work!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had to start his day trying to fix the things he did last week for his project (again!).

The setup at his company is a little odd, so there are a few extra steps that no one actually knew about that he missed out so it wasn’t working quite yet. Once he and his team figured this out, he was able to fix it and he hopes it works now, but it’s tough to test.

After he did that, he had his usual weekly team meeting and then he did a bunch of tickets before he had some lunch.

After lunch, Curtis was surprised with having to do an integration with 2 pieces of software, but it was super easy, just took a bit of time.

Once that was done, it was time for some more tickets and general admin.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with a little admin before having a team meeting. She then got a fair amount of paperwork done and managed to organise a survey to learn how to better support one of the teams.

She then had a quick catch up with one of her teammates before having lunch and then joining an interview. After that Kim had a check in with a couple of the executive team members before joining a second interview of the day.

To finish the day Kim joined a meeting discussing two new roles and then sat down with the team to discuss interviews that happened that day and review some of the pipeline of candidates.

Evening

We had planned to have a different dinner, but it takes too long and Kim had to work late, so we had some chicken with rice and vegetables in sweet chilli sauce.

We watched TV a bit and Kim had to do a little bit more work. We also and some admin to get done ourselves, so a nice busy start to the week for us.

Place 72 – Day 886: Vancouver, BC – Laptops, All Day

Curtis’ Day

Curtis headed right to the office this morning as he had some things to get done there.

He started by setting up a laptop and getting together equipment to send out with the laptop.

Whilst doing that, Curtis did some tickets and other things, too.

Someone then dropped off their laptop and Curtis and to wipe and re-setup that laptop as it was having some issues. That didn’t actually take as long as expected, so that gave him some extra time.

The person came and picked up their laptop in the late afternoon and Curtis was able to give them that with no issues.

Curtis then headed home around 16:30 and when he got home, he had lunch as he hadn’t had it yet today!

Curtis then watched hockey whilst Kim did some work.

Kim’s Day

To start the day Kim joined a meeting about a new projects one of her colleagues might be working on she then joined a recruitment meeting but only her teammate showed up, so they had a quick chat and check in before Kim joined an interview.

After the interview and the review Kim went to a team meeting where everyone gave updates about projects they are working on. She went from this into another interview and review before completing some paperwork and sending it out.

After a quick lunch Kim had two catch ups with teammates to see how they are doing and update each other on projects. Kim then joined her final interview of the day, has the review and then completed some more paperwork.

Evening

We had potato, peas and mushrooms for dinner and then chilled out. We both had very long, busy days so we needed to just zone out.

Place 72 – Day 552: Vancouver, BC – Late Evening Working

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had little planned for the day, but that gave him good time to get some tickets done. Most of the day was spent doing that, just getting tickets done, and he also had a quick training session with a colleague who showed him how to do a few things.

Kim’s Day

Kim started on event planning in the morning before she jumped into a recruitment meeting with a couple of department heads. It was such an interesting meeting and Kim got great clarity on the next few months.

She then joined the weekly meeting and gave an update before joining the weekly project meeting where they went over the action points.

From those two meetings Kim then joined a finance meeting to go over the HR system to make sure that the team have the accesses that they need.

Kim took a quick stop for lunch and then went to host a wellness break of meditation that one one person came to. So they used the time to have a quick catch up.

Shortly after that Kim joined a casual interview / chat with a candidate. Once the interview was done Kim had a round up conversation with the department managers to figure out the next steps.

Kim then did some training with her colleague on onboarding. Kim showed her the process and then watched as her colleague tried it too. It went really well and Kim is so excited to pass these things over to her colleague.

She then went out for a masked walk with her colleague and it was so nice. The fresh air was amazing!

When she got home Kim got some admin done and spent most of the evening working on job descriptions.

Evening

Kim worked a lot of the evening as she had to get some things done, but she really knuckled down and got them done which she was happy with, although she had to work fairly late into the evening!

We had some pizza for dinner and Kim had a bit of a relax before Kim got right back to work.

We did get to watch a bit of TV together in the late evening and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 419: Vancouver, BC – Finding New Clothes

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started the day with an orientation. He chatted with a new hire and ensured they could do everything they needed to and answered any of their questions.

Not long after that, Curtis had his long weekly team meeting and then did some tickets before lunch.

After lunch, Curtis got his personal learning plan written up and sent off to the required people and then he did a few more tickets as well as some admin.

Kim’s Day

After a relaxing morning Kim went to apply to two jobs, but ended up sending applications in for about 7 roles. So thats exciting!

In preparation for interviews Kim thought it would be a good idea to have some interview clothes ready so she popped to a few places but didn’t find anything. She is also trying to buy less stuff in general so she went to a thrift shop, but unfortunately there wasn’t anything in her size that Kim could wear to an interview. When she got home Kim did find some shoes that would work, so she might get those!

Evening

We had leftovers from last night’s roast for dinner and it was as delicious as it was yesterday.

We watched a bit of TV and then Curtis drove off to hockey at around 21:30.

As the game is late, we will let you know the score tomorrow!

In the evening Kim decided on swapping out her summer to winter clothes. She collected the winter stuff from the storage locker in the car park and sorted through all of her clothes. She has now found a few more items to donate, so thats good!

Once Curtis gets back home it will be pretty late, so it will be right to bed after a shower.

Place 72 – Day 331: Vancouver, BC – Late Evening Walk

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting right away this morning, which he wasn’t expecting, to discuss a few points about a project.

After that, Curtis had his weekly team meeting, followed by trying to fix someone’s issue and some other tickets.

Curtis had another team meeting to discuss a few new potential policies and then the rest of the day Curtis was trying to get an issue resolved, and it seemed he got close a few times, but unfortunately he didn’t get it fixed.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by completing an account set up and comparing two companies. She then worked on completing the form from last week and putting together another one.

Just before midday Kim set up a laptop for someone before heading out for a team lunch. It was the first time Kim has been to a restaurant in months! It was strange but enjoyable!

In the afternoon Kim had a team meeting about events that are coming up over the next few weeks. It went well and some good plans have been made.

A little later in the afternoon Kim had a meeting with the director of IT to go over a plan Kim has for the phones. It was a productive meeting and Kim now knows what the next steps are.

Late Evening Walk

Once Kim got home we were pretty hungry so we had leftovers from yesterday and watched some TV.

We played a game of mini golf and then went our for a walk around 21:00.

We walked a different way past a marina which was beautiful!

We were out for about 45 minutes and the weather was so perfect.

We got back home and just watched some TV and chilled out for the remainder of the day.

Place 72 – Day 279: Vancouver, BC – Indecision & Late Dinner

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very busy day!

He started with admin and some tickets and then had his daily team meeting.

After his team meeting, he had another meeting about the Hackathon project he is working on this time around. He is with the same team as before but they’re making a different product.

Shortly after that, he had a call with someone to try and figure out why their laptop kept running so slow, which he thinks he figured out!

Once that was done, it was nearly lunch time!

Curtis had some soup for lunch and then got onto a team meeting which the team has bi weekly.

This call lasted around 1.5 hours and then Curtis did a couple of other things before happy hour, where he sat and chatted with everyone.

Curtis played games for most of his evening, just relaxing.

Kim’s Day

Kim had to move the UKs social call 30 minutes earlier to make time for the follow up meeting to yesterday’s company wide meeting.

Once both of the calls were done Kim quickly made her way into the office to let someone in who had to collect some things. It was great to see them and they had a wonderful quick catch up. While they were collecting their stuff, Kim had a call with a teammate in regards to the new starter welcome packs she has put together.

Kim then had a little time before her next meeting so she found space and put away all of the stock for the welcome packs and responded to a few emails. She then tried to join the call for this months lightning talks to make sure everyone is set up properly, but she had no luck! It took several attempts and Kim broke the meeting for the other people at one point but she eventually managed to get the meeting up and running somewhat smoothly.

After the talks Kim ate some of her lunch quickly before joining the east coast weekend call it started off with a nice chat and then they played a few games on Jackbox and it was so fun! It was great to just switch off and laugh!

After the games ended Kim worked on some orders that she started yesterday that need to be amended. She then joined the west coast call and had a great time! Kim and her colleague then sat far apart in the kitchen and sat talking for hours and it was brilliant!

Late Dinner

We had a later dinner today as Kim didn’t get back until a little later from work.

We were going to order something, as per each Friday, but we couldn’t decide on anything and were hungry, so we decided to have frozen pizza instead.

We watched some TV and relaxed before we have to go and clean the old apartment tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 200: Vancouver, BC – Board Games & Ice Cream Sundaes!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and actually had an onboard to complete, so he got that started and that took up a lot of the morning.

Just before that though, the nitro coffee people and turned up and Curtis spoke with them. They were eventually able to get it fixed! They noticed that when they had cleaned it last time, they’d tightened the taps too much and therefore it created a blockage! That now means the nitro is flowing as it should, which was a win.

Curtis did the onboard until 11:30, when he then went and played board games and had snacks with colleagues. This went on until 13:00.

Curtis used the rest of this time to get the rest of the onboarding done and setup the laptop.

This time led perfectly to the ice cream sundaes in the afternoon, which Curtis was looking forward to!

After eating that, Curtis helped a couple of people around the office with some issues, did some other tickets and then setup the desk for the new person starting Monday.

This took a while as it was being a pain, as usual.

Curtis finished up and then headed home.

Kim’s Day

Kim had an idea for a new Wiki page so she spent a lot of her day making that. She made a travel page and included information and links to hotels and other useful information that people may need all in one place!

In the morning Kim went to the Marriott for a coffee with their rep. It was great to catch up and have a talk about travel.
In the afternoon Kim dealt with a lot of emails organising the dishwasher repairs and other bits and bobs.

Cleaning & Playing Hockey Late!

Curtis got home and did all the cleaning of the apartment, taking out the recycling and cleaning/vacuuming etc.

After that, Curtis sorted his hockey equipment out, packing it away into the car and re-taping his stick.

Kim got back home and we watched some TV and made dinner!

We ate food and then left to go to Curtis’ hockey game, which starts at 22:30!

We will update about the hockey game tomorrow as it’s another late one.

Place 72 – Day 171: Vancouver, BC – The Migration Is (pretty much) Done!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and was very wet! The rain came down on the way to the office, so he had to sit with wet clothes on for a few hours, which was pleasant!

Most of the things Curtis had booked in for the day were cancelled by the time he got in, so it freed him up quite a bit.

He was able to use that time to catch up on migration news as well as all other required information he missed whilst away.

Curtis was able to do some other things other than project work, such as tickets and some admin he had to get done, but he did still do a lot of project work.

Curtis’ team had a meeting at the end of the day to discuss the project work for the last couple of weeks, positives, negatives and other information.

After the meeting, Curtis had the last migration to kick off and then an offboard to complete before walking home.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a whirlwind of a day! She hardly stopped! The first thing Kim did was attempt to catch up on emails from while she was off.

Shortly after this she and a colleague headed out to a dollar store to pick things up for Halloween. They also grabbed a few items for the Monday night drinks while they were in.

When Kim got back she went to start on the fridge clean out, but then there was a large delivery so Kim had to go through and organise that. Then the pizzas arrived, with no issues!

Kim popped the pizzas ready on the table and ran out to start the fridge clean, she emptied out the fridge and left things on the side so people can claim them if needed.

Kim also compiled everything from the freezers into one draw to allow for a check in in a few days to go through that and empty it.

Once everyone grabbed their pizza Kim kicked off the monthly social talks. They went really smoothly with people coincidentally having very similar or linked talks.

After the talks Kim went back in to finish the fridge clean. She gave the shelves a scrub, put an old shelf back in one of the fridges and binned all of the food left on the side.

Kim then managed to have roughly an hour to set up for Diwali and arrange everything for next week. She started by putting together most of the orders and having them ready to be checked later and sent out.

Kim then helped set up the dewali celebrations by putting out Mandals for people to either colour in or paint.

There was also Henna, tea light holder painting and food!

It was a great little event, Kim managed to grab a samosa before heading back to her desk to continue on with planning for next week.

Kim spent the rest of her day, well into 2 hours after she should have, setting up for the next week.

Kim collected all the items that they might need from flip charts, to pens to whiteboard wipes. Kim even built a new flip chart that may or may not be missing a piece, no one is currently sure. Kim also drew up a new floor plan for the Monday night drinks where the took up some space in front of a fridge to allow for the best space and fridge space possible. Kim then eventually went over the orders with a colleague and got them sent and sorted.

On the way home Kim stopped by H&M and found the perfect top for her routine! That was a massive win. Kim then went to buy a hairband of some kind but it was so busy she bailed!

Kims training this evening was shocking. She wasn’t able to do any of the moves so ended up just getting ready and having a chat with a co owner! Kim then nipped to the supermarket to pick some things up then went home.

Evening

Kim got home quite late from work, but did come bearing gifts!

She brought home some wine and some ‘fancy’ cheese for us to have for dinner at some point and she bought some meats to have with it.

We had some admin to do in the evening, so we did that and went to bed.
