Place 72 – Day 559: Vancouver, BC – We Definitely Have A New Apartment!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had his Norwegian lesson in the morning which went incredibly well! He had a great conversation that flowed naturally.

After that, he had back to back meetings. The first was a project update meeting and the second was to understand some issues for a team and make a plan of how to resolve those.

Once that meeting was done and Kim was done with her meeting, we took our lunch break and used it to go to the apartment we were offered just to make sure it’s what we want…which it was! The landlord was amazing and the space was even more perfect then we thought.

We verbally agreed to sign and got all the paperwork to sort out!

For some of the afternoon, Curtis looked up about swapping internet providers to save some money at the new apartment, as well as hired a moving company as we are super lazy and can’t be bothered to do it ourselves.

We got that done and looked over the lease agreement and contract etc.

Kim’s Day

Kim worked in a few documents to be ready for meetings for the day. She then joined a recruitment meeting to discuss one departments needs for the next few months. Kim was able to get a great idea of the roles needed and how to put together the job descriptions for them.

She then presented in the weekly meeting before joining the weekly project huddle.

After the viewing Kim did a little training with her new teammate and made sure that they have the right log ins and accesses. She then had a meeting with another teammate to go over documents that they have been working on.

To finish the day Kim did a little admin and then popped out to a shop to pick up something that had been delivered. It turns out that it hasn’t been delivered, so Kim went to another shop for some things for dinner and then headed home.

Evening

When Kim finished work, we made some food (just some seasoned chicken in a wrap with cheese, BBQ sauce and mayo) then we went out to the supermarket to do our shop.

Once we got back, we took out the bins and then we looked at some additional furniture we will need for our new apartment, most notably a desk and chair each, as we’ll each have dedicated office areas, which is exciting!

Curtis also bought himself a monitor to work and play games on.

We relaxed for what was left of the evening…it was a busy one!

Place 72 – Day 412: Vancouver, BC – Not What She Thought

Curtis’ Day

Curtis didn’t have any meeting until 10:30, when he had his Norwegian lesson which went really well.

Once that was done, Curtis had meeting with a few people from his team but also some people from another team which was an information around onboarding.

After lunch, Curtis setup some accounts for a new user and then he did a couple of tickets to end the day.

Kim’s Day

After a nice lazy morning Kim was putting lunch together when she got a phone call from a company asking her in for an interview and the role title was something that she was interested in so she agreed to come in tomorrow. Kim was so excited and happy to see an application submitted yesterday come through so quickly!

After lunch Kim then did a little research on the company and asked for a job description for her to refer to and read through before the interview. The company didn’t have a written job description that they could send over and it had some negative reviews, this made Kim a little uneasy. After a few hours and a bit of back and forth communication, Kim decided to pull her application for the position.

The reviews made the role sound more like a sales position over what was listed and Kim doesn’t want to work in sales, its not a good fit for her.

So for the rest of the afternoon Kim wrote some good cover letters for a few open positions that would fit Kim perfectly. Last week Kim was avoiding applying for any roles that have been listed for more than a few weeks thinking that they would have just forgotten to be removed, but thats not smart. The company may just not have found the right fit yet and Kim may be that perfect fit, so she is really happy with the applications sent out today. Tomorrow Kim will review the saved roles and send out more applications!

Walk

We had leftover curry for dinner and watched a bit of TV, then we went for a nice long walk. It was around 19:30 so it was dark and there were much less people out. It was a super relaxing walk.

We got back and watched some more TV before we slept.

It’s Curtis’ first hockey game tomorrow, as well as his first solo drive in 2 years (and on the other side of the road) so we shall see how that goes!

Place 72 – Day 206: Vancouver, BC – Interesting Network Things

Curtis’ Day

Curtis only had a few things planned for the day, but that soon grew!

A lot of tickets came in, which Curtis took and sorted for people.

Curtis had to deal with a possible security issue, which took up quite a chunk of the morning, but he did enjoy that!

Curtis went for lunch with two colleagues. They had Banh Mi and Curtis also got a vietnamese iced coffee.

After lunch, Curtis had a meeting, followed by doing a few bits of project work as well as discussing a new project with his team.

Curtis also did some network things with his colleague who is in town from Winnipeg. He learned a bit more, too, which is great and always welcome.

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she set up for the day and sent out a reminder email about a building run holiday breakfast party happening in the lobby.

Kim and a few others went down to grab some food, there was also a live 2 person band playing festive songs.
When Kim got back she tool some time to compare 2 pizza places as she wanted to try ordering from somewhere new.

Kim picked a restaurant that she and Curtis have ordered from previously. It has a comparable price, larger pizzas, better quality and all the dietary replacements that are needed.

Kim then popped out to the dollar store to grab some cheap holiday chocolates and mini candy canes for the chocolate vase at her desk.

People were very happy when they saw it filled with festive treats! On the way back into the office she picked up a box of 6 chicken nuggets.

Kim then scanned and saved a few recipts before heading out on another little coffee date! This time they actually went for coffee!

Kim and another colleague went down to JJ Bean and had a wonderful chat about management, how they both ended up in Vancouver and languages.

When Kim got back she actually booked the pizza for delivery as she didn’t want to place the order earlier over lunch time, that seemed like a bad time to be placing a 16 pizza order!

Kim the popped out again to pick up some felt for the party declarations and picked up the multipack of beer and case of cider for tomorrows afternoon drinks.

Enjoyable Pole Training

Curtis got home and had no plans to do anything at all, so just sat around and played games!

Kim’s class tonight was great fun! She ended up learning a move she tried a few weeks ago. It took a few attempts but she finally nailed it on the last attempt! She also learned a very cool fake bendy move!

Kim got back home and we watched a YouTube video or two, followed by Silicon Valley.
