Place 72 – Day 938: Vancouver, BC – FINALLY, Prawn Crackers!

We woke up a little too late, but we felt great! We had some breakfast and then got ready for the day.

We went out to the CORRECT French café today! We got a double chocolate cake to share and a cappuccino each, all of which were delicious!

We left here and drove to a lake which we thought had a part attached to it, but it didn’t, so we drop up the road a little to an actual park.

The park was more of a dog park and wasn’t actually that good, so we left and drove back towards home instead.

We got back home and relaxed for a bit before we ordered some Chinese food! We have a place opposite us which we don’t believe has been open very long and it sounded like they did good food, so we had to check it out.

The food was a lot like the Chinese food we used to get in England, which is a huge plus for us! They even had the same type of prawn crackers, which we haven’t had for a very long time.

Doesn’t look amazing, but oh it really was!

Once we ate, we went for a nice long evening walk to the beach!

There were a lot of gatherings around, including a band playing to a large crowd, so we made sure to stay away, though it did make a good atmosphere.

The sun was setting so we had some beautiful views and sunlight, which was lovely to see as we were walking.

We watched some TV when we got home and ate ice cream, which we got on the way back home.

Place 72- Day 911: Vancouver, BC – A Dog In A Lake

Early Hockey

Curtis managed to get a couple of hours of sleep before he woke up at 02:00 to watch Great Britain play hockey!

Curtis really enjoyed the game and Great Britain only lost 2-1 to Slovakia, which was a huge accomplishment.

Once the game was done, around 04:30, he went back to bed and got some good sleep in.

Finding A Sandwich

We woke up and had the same breakfast as yesterday and then got ourselves ready to head out for a walk.

We walked to Kitsilano beach again, but stopped a few times along the way to find a sandwich we could eat for lunch. Unfortunately, there were none we could find that we were interested in, so we didn’t bother in the end. We just got ourselves some coffees!

We walked around at the beach for a while and then it started to rain, so we walked back towards home.

We walked a long way back, to where we used to live, in our first apartment, just to give ourselves another route to walk around and a change of scenery.

A Dog In A Lake

As we were heading back home, we were distracted by a situation in which a dog had got into a lake and was chasing the ducks around. Dogs are meant to be on a leash in this area, so it was annoying a few people there. This went on for quite a while, until eventually the dog’s owner got into the lake and got the dog.

By this time, it was raining a little harder so we hurried back home, with a stop to a shop on the way back to get a few things.

Mac & Cheese

Kim made a terrific multi-cheese Mac and cheese for dinner which was great. We had that with a salad and homemade garlic bread and were thoroughly stuffed afterwards!

We went out for a bit of a walk and to get some things we forgot earlier from the shop, then when we got back home, Kim had a bath and relaxed.

We just relaxed for the rest of the night together and watched some TV before heading to bed. Curtis was noticeably tired today after his late night and early morning yesterday.

Tomorrow is a day off, in which we plan to do very little as the weather is not great.

Place 72 – Day 897: Vancouver, BC – Switching Up Our Walk

We woke up fairly late, accidentally, and then had some french toast for breakfast.

Once we were done with breakfast, we watched the Formula 1 race and then got ourselves ready to go out.

We went out for a walk, as usual, but we walked a bit of a different way once we got to the park.

We walked around a lake that is in the park, which was a little quieter, greener and had some herons in the lake that we watched for a bit.

We walked back home and were pretty hungry, so made some dinner when we got back. We had vegetables, egg and chicken on top of rice, which was really nice.

We went out to do the weekly shop, but we also went to Canadian Tire to pickup some new cutlery.

We did our shop and headed back to the car, where there was a bit of an altercation happening. Nothing physical, but we waited with one of the people until the police arrived. That was a bit of excitement for the evening but luckily everyone was ok.

We headed back home and watched a bit of TV, then we did a little bit of reading in Norwegian. Curtis bought Kim a book for her birthday and she took a look at it today and enjoyed reading in Norwegian!

Kim then had a bath whilst Curtis played some games, then we watched some TV for the remainder of the evening.

Place 72 – Day: 423 – Vancouver, BC – Murrin Provincial Park

BIG Win!

Curtis’ hockey game last night went extremely well!

His team won 7-0…And Curtis got a goal! That’s 2 points in 3 games so far. Going well!

When Curtis drove home, he managed to scrape the rear wheel arch on a pillar whilst parking back at home. We have an awkward space in our parking lot and Curtis hasn’t had much practice with it…It doesn’t really make much of a difference, and we had one on the opposite side from the person who owned it before us, so now it just matches!

Cinnamon Buns!

We had the cinnamon buns that Kim made for breakfast this morning!

They didn’t grow as much when cooking as Kim wanted, but they were still delicious, especially with the icing and strawberries that Kim made with them!

Murrin Provincial Park

We headed out once we got ready and went to Murrin Provincial Park. This place was not far from where we went last week.

This is a lake but surrounded by hiking trails, and when we got there we weren’t really sure where we were meant to go, so we just started following a trail!

The trail turned out to be a bit of a scramble, but it was really good fun! The weather has certainly got a bit colder, which is great for climbing around and hiking.

We hiked and hiked and got higher and higher until we were right at the top, with a beautiful view of the large lake!

It was pretty windy up there, so we headed down and that began our decent.

We came across some people rock climbing, which was pretty cool to see, but we tried not to distract them so we continued down.

Eventually, we got to the bottom and it was about a 1/2 hour hike in the end which felt good, but it was time for some food!

We drove up to Squamish and got a subway and a coffee (from Starbucks).

We ate our Subway and then drove on home.

Pizza!

Once we got home, we just relaxed for a while and then when we got hungry, we walked up to our local pizza place, Pizza Garden, which makes the most incredible Italian pizza, and grabbed a 4 cheese pizza from there.

It turns out, 4 cheese pizza isn’t what we usually get, so it was a little weird but still pretty tasty!

Once we ate, we watched the film Anna on Amazon Video, then played some games and watched more TV.

Place 87 – Day 4: Whistler, BC – Quad Biking!

Breakfast, Of Course

We had a small breakfast from Purebred of just a coffee and a croissant.

We ate this quickly and finished off getting ready for the day, and then checked out, which we were able to do by phone, which was great.

We got everything into the car and then went for a bit of a final walk around Whistler.

We got ourselves some drinks for the day and the went back to the hotel to grab the car.

Alpha Lake & Nita Lake

We drove out to a couple of lakes near where we were going just to pass the time before our activity.

We just had a walk around and chatted for a bit, but it was actually a little cold.

Kim thought it was a good idea to go on the swing…But she then realised it was not.

We finished walking around these lakes and got back to the car to drive to the quad biking place.

The check engine light came on, which wasn’t ideal, but we managed to make it there fine.

Quad Biking!

For Curtis’ birthday, Kim got us a quad biking tour close to Whistler.

We got there and there was just 2 other people joining us for our tour, which was excellent!

We set off on some big quad bikes and did a bit of practice to acclimate to the bikes and ensure we were safe.

We began our tour and it was actually a little technical! There were a lot of stones around to navigate over, but we got to the first viewpoint pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, as with everything at the moment, the view wasn’t very good due to the smoke, but there was a nice river.

We continued on and went up a mountain which was pretty difficult with much larger rocks to get over and some steep hills but we made it to the top!

Again, there is meant to be a good view, but it’s not a very good time for views at the moment.

We had to ride back down the mountain and that was tough as we didn’t want to go too fast over the rocks, but it was incredibly fun and made us think and consentrate for sure.

We got down this part and had a nice flat part we could go fast on and then we came to a thin forest track which was challenging but great!

We then moved into a section that was in a forest still but with a lot of puddles on corners, which got us wet and dirty, especially the one big puddle!

We then headed back to the camp after around 1.5 hours of riding. We had a really great time overall and actually want to come back!

Home Time

We left here (with our check engine light on still) and drove home.

We got home in about 2 hours and were incredibly tired, but glad we got home even though we had a check engine light on.

We booked our car in for Wednesday and then we relaxed!

We had some frozen pizza for dinner, unpacked and relaxed for the evening.

Place 87 – Day 2: Whistler, BC – Train Wreck, Rainbow Park & Birthday Dinner

Birthday Present!

Kim was excited to give Curtis his birthday present, so she did that when we woke up.

The present was a bunch of snacks from all the other countries we have lived in or will live in, so the UK, New Zealand and Norway.

Curtis loved this gift so much and is looking forward to tucking into the snacks with Kim.

Breakfast!

We woke up around 10:00 and got ourselves ready.

We then headed down to a cafe we had walked past yesterday and got ourselves some breakfast.

Kim got herself a croissant with tomato and goats cheese along with an iced caramel latte. Curtis got a breakfast wrap and a flat white.

We headed back to the hotel to eat our breakfast and then finished getting ready to go out for the day.

Train Wreck

We drove for about 10 minutes to get to the Train Wreck, which is exactly what it sounds like! This is a train wreck from the 1950s which has been used a graffiti spot for artists as well as a trick/jump spot for mountain bikers!

We walked through a forest and across a cool suspension bridge to get to the wreck and a beautiful river to boot!

We got some great photos in and around the Train Wreck and learned a little about what happened and what they are used for now.

Rainbow Park

We left the wreck and took another drive to Rainbow Park.

We didn’t spent too long here, but we walked around for a bit and took in the peacefulness of the park and the beautiful (smokey) view.

Delicious Dinner!

We went out for a dinner at 17:00 to a restaurant not far from us.

This is the first time we have been in a proper restaurant for dinner together since COVID-19 hit the world, so it was a little strange but we were outside and very distanced.

We got some wine to share and then for food Kim got duck breast whilst Curtis got some venison!

For dessert, Curtis got a lemon tart and Kim got a chocolate fondant!

This arrived with a candle and ‘happy birthday’ on it from the staff at the hotel for Curtis’ birthday, which was very kind!

We finished our food and then headed back to the hotel. It turned out that we had been our for about 8 hours, though it didn’t feel like it!

When we got back, we watched The Social Dilemma and then played some Connect 4, which was included with Curtis’ birthday present.

Place 72 – Day 358: Vancouver, BC – Lost Lagoon

Lost Lagoon

We woke up at a good time today and had some breakfast.

We had a grilled cheese again and then got ready for the day.

We then went out to do our usual weekend walk on the seawall, along the beaches and across to Stanley Park.

There were far too many people outside today, so we had to keep dodging them, but once we got to Stanley Park, it was a little less populated.

We went to Lost Lagoon at Stanley Park which was a big lake and it was actually very nice and incredibly peaceful!

We walked around here for a while and then went to grab a drink from the pharmacy nearby.

We left there and walked back home, which took about 30 minutes.

Goodbye, Leafs

We got back home and Curtis watched the leafs game. This was the final game of the series, so the winner moves on.

Unfortunately, the Leafs lost 3-0, so that’s a short lived return of hockey for Curtis!

Home Pole Dancing

Kim did some pole dancing at home whilst Curtis watched hockey. She loves the fact she can do stuff at home and she had some success with it, too.

Gnocchi

We had gnocchi for dinner, which was just from a packet so nothing fancy, but Kim made a homemade sauce which was really good.

We watched some TV and played some games as usual for the evenings these days!

Place 72 – Day 336: Vancouver, BC – Whyte Lake Trail

Whyte Lake Trail

We got up in the late morning, had a simple breakfast and got ready for the day.

Eventually, around 13:00, we left the apartment and drove up to West Vancouver where we went to Whyte Lake Trail.

This is a simple hiking trail, which was what we were looking for..Not too much effort but good to get outside and see some nice nature!

We really enjoyed the walk, which climaxed at a lake.

After arriving at the lake, we looked at it a bit and then walked back towards where we had parked, which was about a 20 minute walk back.

In total, it was about a 5km walk, though it was very warm out so we were a little sweaty!

On the way back, we dropped in at a cafe to get a snack and some coffee.

Kim had a Cajun chicken sandwich and Curtis had a breakfast croissant. We each had a coffee, too, but a cold one as the weather was too hot for something hot!

After this, we walked down the beach that was opposite the cafe and that was a bit busy, so we walked down the sea wall that was there.

We eventually turned around, after walking a bit on the rocks, and then went to the beach where Kim was able to stand in the water a little!

Once Kim was done in the water, we drove back home, with a stop at the supermarket for the weekly shop.

Pesto Chicken

We got back home and both needed a shower to clean off and cool down.

We then did a bit of online shopping for some better hiking shoes.

Kim then made some pesto chicken for dinner, but also prepped the chicken for other means coming up this week.

We ate our dinner and then watched the film The Old Guard.

Place 72 – day 24: Vancouver,BC – Trout Lake Beach Park

A Rude Awakening

There were a couple of people outside our window shouting and conversing at 05:00 this morning, which woke us up.

Someone we are living with got them to move away but unfortunately we were now both awake.

We led in bed and napped for a few hours but never really got to sleep.

We took a relaxed outlook on the morning and didn’t do much and got ready slowly for the day.

Mocha Madness

We went to Kings Cafe again and each got a mocha madness coffee. Kim got her one cold this time, so see if it is still as good and Curtis got his hot. They were both good but Kim did prefer it warm.

Trout Lake Beach Park

We walked for about 10 minutes to a park called Trout Lake Beach. The name is a bit misleading as there is a beach, but it is man made next to a lake and it is a bit underwhelming.

This is the ‘beach’

We saw many a dog in the park whilst we just walked around. Most of the dogs were wet from swimming, but that didn’t stop Kim saying hello.

Bank Stop

We stopped at the bank to book Kim an appointment for tomorrow and we saw the lady who was dealing with us last time so we had a bit of a chat with her as well.

Evening

Kim did some research and some admin for a lot of the evening whilst Curtis watched Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final as it was on.

We had teriyaki chicken and rice for dinner and then retreated to bed to watch some TV.

Tomorrow

Curtis starts work tomorrow, so he is up at a good time to get ready and get to the office for 09:00.

The blog will, as it was in Auckland, probably be separated into 2 sections, Kim’s Day & Curtis’ day. We expect this to continue throughout our time working here.

Place 72 – Day 16: Vancouver,BC – Central Park

Central Park

We wanted to have a walk today and it was a nice day, so it made perfect sense!

We took about a 40 minute walk down to Central Park, which is a large park here in Burnaby.

The park was incredibly peaceful, even though the was quite a few people enjoying it.

We came across a nice lake which also had some ducklings in.

The park was beautiful and calming. We walked around it for a while, watching all the squirrels and lookimg at all the tall trees.

We got to a certain point in the park where we noticed we wanted to have a coffee, so we stopped to find a Vietnamese cafe to get Vietnamese coffee.

Coffee

We got to a Vietnamese restaurant and they said they wouldn’t serve us JUST coffee, so we hastily left and decided Starbucks would be easier, which it wasn’t.

We went to 2 Starbucks but neither had seats. We couldn’t be bothered to keep looking, so we got our iced lattes and walked around instead.

Train

We had thought we would walk home, but it was an hour, so we got the train home instead.

We watched a bit of TV and then made dinner, which was the same as yesterday, followed by more TV.
