Place 72 – Day 995: Vancouver, BC – First Movie In 2 Years!

We woke up around 10:45 and had a fairly relaxed morning. We did some laundry and some stuff around the apartment and had some croissants for breakfast.

We went out and got a coffee and walked for a bit, towards the beach. It was very warm, so we sat on the grass in the shade for bit, then walked a bit more before heading to the cinema!

We went to see our first moving in what must be about 2 years (we believe it was December 2019 when we last went) and it was great! We watched the movie Fall Guy which was as good as were told it was!

We wore our masks and they also distanced everyone in the theatre, so that was good.

We left there and walked home, before heading to the supermarket.

We didn’t get too much as we go away on Friday! We got some essentials and enough to eat this week.

We got home and had the remaining Korean chicken for dinner…Turns out, we bought too much!

We got ourselves ready for the week, but most importantly, we relaxed!

Place 72 – Day 994: Vancouver, BC – A Friend’s Tattoo & Leafs Tickets Booked!

We woke up and got ourselves some croissants and got showered after that.

We did a bit of tidying/cleaning and then Kim needed to head out.

Kim went to meet a friend who was getting a tattoo! Once she got the tattoo, Kim met with her and had a coffee and then walked her home. She had a good couple of hours of chatting with her and that was super nice. A beautiful tattoo, too!

Curtis vacuumed and then played some games and relaxed until Kim got back.

Once Kim got back, she did some more cleaning and had to take a video of the apartment for something and send that off.

Curtis booked tickets for the Leafs game here in Vancouver, depending on if everything is going ok in December! Exciting!

We had leftover Korean chicken for dinner and watched some TV together for the evening.

Place 72 – Day 993: Vancouver, BC – Finishing Work At A Good Time!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a bit more of a relaxed morning today. He needed to call a courier and organise a pickup for an offboarded user.

Once he did that, he did some tickets and that was pretty much the rest of the day.

The day was pretty quiet, so when he had spare time, Curtis got some Norwegian homework done.

Curtis did an offboard at the end of the day and then it was the end of work for the week!

Kim’s Day

Kim started the day joining the new weekly finance meeting and they discussed a process to fine tune it. It was a great meeting. A fair few people from here were meant to head into another meeting but it got pushed back so Kim sat and had her breakfast and then helped someone with some IT stuff when the meeting was pushed again.

Just before midday Kim joined the meeting and really enjoyed the interesting discussions. It’s so lovely to be involved and get to help so many interesting and wonderful things!

She then had some lunch and popped out to pick up a coffee, but the shop was closed. Which meant Kim went into the wildfire smoke, hot outside for no reason! It was so hot and the air quality is awful today.

She then prepared for an interview, hosted it and had a review before finishing someone’s laptop and rearranging the beginning of her week to be able to take it to the couriers.

Evening

Kim finished work at a good time today, which was great, and she used the time to have a snack and then a little 1 hour nap!

After the nap, we ordered some Korean chicken for dinner and chilled out.

Place 72 – Day 987: Vancouver, BC – Korean BBQ Lunch

We woke up and felt very well rested, which was great.

We had some breakfast which was just ‘stuff’ cobbled together. We had cookies leftover from dinner last night (which were free), some cake and some fruit, as well as juice and Curtis had a coffee.

We got ourselves ready and then we chatted with Kim’s parents for a bit.

After that, Kim went out to meet some people for work for lunch! The plan was to have an outdoor gathering, but that was cancelled due to rain, so she met them for food instead.

The food was just okay, but she had a really good time hanging out with them for quite a while! She also had some tiramisu pancakes which were good.

Once Kim got back home, we just did some laying down and relaxing for a while. We eventually got ourselves up and made some quick, easy dinner. We needed to use the mushrooms we bought, so we had those with some other things.

We watched some TV and relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 902: Vancouver, BC – End of The Workshop

Curtis’ Day

Most of Curtis’ day was full from the Microsoft workshop again, which had its final day today.

Curtis learned a lot again today, but also had many questions which he was able to get answered easily.

Curtis also managed to get something else for a project completed. He needed to figure out how to write a script and was able to find enough things on Google to get one working, which felt really cool and he felt that he achieved.

The workshop ended quicker than expected, which meant Curtis was able to join the office based meeting which was a few updates and a few other bits of information.

Curtis then watched hockey, the final Leafs game of the regular season!

Kim’s Day

Kim had a few quick meetings to start her day and then had another smaller meeting about recruitment with a department leader. She then decided to join a Dev team meeting where people show what they have been working on. It was so cool to see new and exciting things!

She then joined a two hour meeting with department leaders and the executive team. Then she joined a chat to discuss different software options to make a system easier.

Kim then joined an interview and had a quick chat after to discuss next steps before having an end of week chat with her teammate to go over a couple of quick updates. After that Kim showed a colleague how to set a couple of things up on their Wiki pages and drive.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim worked with a couple of people to iron out a communication and survey for a team to complete. It was great to sit down and get it done with the help of two people who understand what we are trying to achieve a little more.

To finish the day Kim hosted an impromptu games night! It was so much fun and everyone had a great time. Once most people left a few stayed back and had a mini, accidental meeting. It was really nice to get some things sorted!

Evening

We ordered Korean chicken from our favourite Korean place and watched some TV and did absolutely nothing over the evening.

As of writing this, we are still waiting for our emails to get our first vaccination, but we are being patient and know we’ll get it at some point!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting at 09:30 with his team and then had quite a few small tasks to do up until his one on one with his manager.

After having his 1:1, he had another long team meeting followed by lunch.

Post lunch, Curtis walked down to the office to get someone’s items from them as they were leaving the company. He had a nice chat with them.

Curtis left shortly after that and had to wait a while for the elevator as the building was done to just 1!

He got back home, did a little work and then wrapped up for the day.

Kim’s Day

Most of Kim’s day was related to recruitment! There were lots of interesting meetings, things to sort and figure out. It was a challenging, educational and interesting day, Kim really enjoyed it and enjoyed having the option to learn!

To start her day Kim had a chat with a friend to discuss a local vendor and see if they would be a good fit for Kim to use at her company. It was also really nice to have a little chat and say hello!

She then focused on doing the final set up of a laptop and arranging a pickup time. She then a few recruitment meetings towards the middle of the day and Kim went over some job descriptions with a couple of department leaders.

In the afternoon Kim had more recruitment meetings and she organised a few things for the event coming up. She also took some time to organise some training for a new starter joining on Monday.

Evening

Kim worked on making a spreadsheet for all the apartments we are looking at or interested in. This will help us keep track and note down the pros and cons of them.

We ordered some Korean chicken and ate that whilst relaxing for the evening.

We have some viewings to go to tomorrow and Curtis had a haircut, too.

Place 72 – Day 486: Vancouver, BC – Gross Weather

We woke up at around 12:00 accidentally, but it was a nice sleep!

We had some cinnamon buns for breakfast (yes, we still have some) then we spent the entire day just playing games and watching TV. We didn’t really have any plans and the weather was really gross, just raining all day, so we just relaxed.

When it came to dinner time, we had leftover Korean from yesterday which was as delicious as it was yesterday.

Kim watched the next movie in the series of The Hunger Games whilst Curtis played games.

We’ve decided we will be smart and go to the shop during the week instead as it should be less busy than the weekend (especially before Christmas).

Curtis’ Day

Today was the final day of the virtual retreat. There were meetings from 08:30 and there were a wide range of topics, including work things but also some non work topics, such as information on Bitcoin which was very interesting.

In the late afternoon, there were 2 more meetings. The first was a social gathering for anyone in the Vancouver office. This was a virtual holiday party. There were awards handed out as well as some quizzes and games!

Right after that, Curtis had a similar thing with his team for about 1.5 hours which was really fun and nice to hang out with them.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a lazy work day today, she started by sending an email to a candidate and drawing up their new starter paperwork. Then she called the candidate to set up a meeting for the afternoon between them and someone in the company so they can have an informal chat. To finish the morning Kim set up the accounts and then sent over the offer paperwork!

In the afternoon Kim organised some things for an event in the new year. She started by making a quick version of the invite and purring together some of the information people will need.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim did lots of little admin things that she had been meaning to do for a while. She started a vendor list, made a few reports, started a new job description, did some research and organised a few meetings for in the new year and next week.

Evening

We decided on Korean for dinner so we ordered some Korean chicken.

We played some SuperHot until it arrived and then watched Megamind whilst we ate.

After that, we watched the final episode of The Queen’s Gambit and then we watched the first episode of Season 2 of Hjem Til Jul a Norwegian Netflix show about Christmas, which we have been waiting for!

We watched some YouTube and other TV, as well as played some games for the remainder of the evening.

Place72 – Day 356: Vancouver, BC – Hockey Is Stressful

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a busy morning, mostly just doing tickets.

The afternoon was pretty quiet, with just a few tickets and not much else happening.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent the day on calls! She first had the UK social call, but no one joined, so she headed into the office and did a little admin before joining a quick call with her colleague to show her the PowerPoint she made for the summer party mini game! They also had a quick catchup about the parties.

Kim then arranged a courier and sorted out a few other things in the gap between that call and her 1-1, which went really well. It was a great catchup with her manager and Kim updated her on a few of the projects she is working on, the new thing for the kitchen, the test of the quiz the day before and a few other things.

Kim then had another call with her colleague after she had a request come through that she just needed to soundboard. So so it was a lot of Kim listening and offering ideas when her colleague hit a mind blank.

After that call Kim squeezed in a few emails and some scannning before joining the East Coast social call. She had a great call with all those people, but was then needed to brainstorm with her colleague. So Kim jumped off the social call and helped her colleague make a game plan and back up plans.

Kim then had a quick lunch before managing to do some more admin before the West Coast call. She stayed on that for a while before one of the people on the call reminded kim that someone else is joining the office as of next week and Kim realised she had set nothing up for them! She sent them all the information during the day and added them to all the communication channels, but totally forgot to set up the desk, so Kim did that. Then she set up a laptop for a new starter. To close off the day Kim finally worked on the quiz and she got 3 questions added with media and answers to Kahoot, she took that as a win and eventually went home!

Hockey Is Stressful

Curtis watched the Leafs game after work, which was very, very stressful! The leafs were losing 3-0 but came back to win in Overtime, making it all to play for on Sunday.

We ordered Korean chicken again for dinner as it was so good last week!

We sat and ate that and watched some TV and then played games for a lot of the night, just messing around and having fun!

Place 72 – Day 349: Vancouver, BC – A Psychological Thriller

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did some tickets and also a decent amount of security work to start off the day.

After his team meeting, Curtis did some more tickets and learned how to do something new! Once he learned that, he made a guide for it so others will know, too.

Curtis then had lunch and post lunch, he had a long team meeting to discuss project work from the last 2 weeks.

After that, Curtis’ laptop started being a bit temperamental, so Curtis ran some fixes on it.

Once the laptop decided to work, Curtis did another couple of tickets and then was done for the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim took the earliest social call from home, it was just her and one other person from one of the UK offices and it was lovely!

As she got to the office Kim met someone who started a few weeks ago to swap their laptop. While they were in the office she also gave them a quick tour and introduced them to a few people in the office.

After this Kim did a comparison on the shipment services available and set up a package to go out. She also spent some of the morning sorting a team booking and updating a few documents.

At lunch, Kim and a friend went and grabbed tacofino, bought it back to the office and had lunch together. It was really great as its his last day and he is a good egg!

Just as Kim finished lunch she joined the east coast social call, but it was just her and one other person, so they called it quits after 15 minutes. Then a little while later Kim noticed that people had joined the call so she jumped back on! It was great to catch up with those great people.

A short while after, eveyone in the office had a quick catch-up and a cheers to the guy leaving. It was a lovely little, distanced, get together before the long weekend.

Kim worked on the quizzes and then started the West coast social call a little earlier. She had it on in the background while she was working away, but after 45 minutes Kim decided to call it a day and head home!

Korean Chicken!

We had seen a Korean chicken place whilst we were walking the other day and so we thought we would try it out for dinner!

We each got some Korean chicken and Kim’s came with rice whilst Curtis got some Kimchi with his.

We had a nice beer with it and watched a bit of TV.

We relaxed for the evening and watched the film The Invitation which was a phycological thriller. We enjoyed it, but it did take some time to get going.
