Place 72 – Day 955: Vancouver, BC – Fancy HR Work!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went right to the office once he was ready as he needed to setup and send out some IT equipment for a new starter.

Curtis got that all setup and ready to go pretty quickly, so he headed home and stopped off to get us both coffee!

Once he got home, Curtis found out about a new project to get done, which is nice, and then he did some admin and tickets up until lunch.

After lunch, Curtis got started with the project, but it was mostly research. He also had some tickets to get done so he did those as well as some other admin.

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim placed an order for some items that are needed and then she joined a meeting to discuss the structure of interviews. Everyone took a small break before the interview to find out it had been rescheduled! Instead of the interview Kim and her teammate had a meeting with another hiring manager to update and finalise a couple of job descriptions before they went live.

Kim then took some time to fix an IT issue, which was a huge win, before having a check in with a new employee to see how things are going. She then joined the finance meeting to give a quick update and iron a few things out.

In the early afternoon Kim cancelled a recruitment meeting as there was no new information to bring to everyone. Instead, Kim had a call with her teammate to check in and see how they are doing and make sure they have everything set up that they need for the next couple of months. She then had a quick call with her manager to sort out a few things.

In the middle of the afternoon Kim had a donut date with a wonderful colleague where they just caught up and hung out, it was so lovely! She finished the afternoon by sorting out some admin and then joining a meeting to discuss a vendor.

In the evening Kim joined a meeting to discuss some questions about contracts and HR paperwork in general. It was a super interesting and productive way to end the day.

Kim went to pole in the evening and stayed for an extra session after as she was really enjoying it! She didn’t feel that she was doing that well, but she was having fun, which is the main thing!

Evening

Kim got back from pole and we had some mushroom pasta and chilled out for the evening. We went to bed earlylier than normal yesterday, so we made up for it by staying up a little bit later tonight.

Place 72 – Day 566: Vancouver, BC – The Worst Timing

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had to get an onboard done this morning, but as with ever, something broke which prevented him from getting the accounts created.

He spoke with him team as the figured out the issue so he could get the work done and also get the system working again. Luckily, this only affected Curtis’ team and no one else.

Once that was done, he was able to get the onboard completed and get on with other work.

Curtis was able to get a lot of tickets done and then in the late afternoon he had to do some project work and some project admin, too. Overall, a very successful day!

Kim’s Day

Kim was able to get a few smaller admin tasks done in the morning before all of her meetings. She then hosted her first team meeting where Kim went over some of the projects and everyone had a nice little catch up. She then presented and gave a lot of information in the weekly company wide meeting before joining the weekly project catch up.

Kim arrived late to the project catch up because she joined the wrong call and didn’t notice for 10 minutes.

After lunch Kim worked with a teammate to update a guide send out information, send out a form for everyone to complete and update a process for new starters. It was a very successful and productive hour!

Kim then worked on a guide for another project that she has been working on. Then into the evening Kim made a few orders for people before working on some job descriptions.

Evening

Curtis watched hockey whilst Kim worked a little more in the evening and then we had some veggie chilli for dinner. We couldn’t be bothered with rice, so we had it in a wrap with a nice fresh salad on the side.

We watched some TV and played some games as usual in the evening.

Place 72 – Day 544: Vancouver, BC – Hand Delivery & New Ski Pants!

The snow had all but gone this morning, which was fast but we were pretty okay with that.

We got up and had some crepes for breakfast.

Once we finished breakfast, Curtis got ready and planned to deliver the equipment for the new hire that he collected from the office yesterday.

Unfortunately, the lady wasn’t available, so we got ready to go for a walk instead.

Kim got her work permit submitted this morning, which is an excellent step forward !

We walked to get a coffee anf then had a short walk around the seawall. The wind was very cold on our ears, for some reason we didn’t expect that!

We got back home and had to wait a while for the elevators. Curtis then walked to the person’s apartment building to drop off the equipment. Unfortunately, they were not home, so he took it home and they said they would pickup instead.

Curtis watched hockey while he waited for them to confirm they were arriving and then once they did, Kim was already going out so she met them downstairs to hand deliver them the equipment.

Once she did that, Kim then went to a thrift store and found a great pair of ski pants as she used hers the other day and they seemed a little too tight.

She got these for just $15 which seemed cheap, but they’re a really good brand!

She checked a few other stores for gloves but had no luck, so she came back home.

Kim then took some stuff down to the storage and brought up some stuff from there, too.

Once she got back, she got some housework done and then made dinner.

Curtis finished watching hockey and then also got some further housework done.

We ate our delicious veggie bolognese and watched some TV for the rest of the night.

Place 72 – Day 517: Vancouver, BC – Requirements Discussion & HR Things

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very busy morning with many questions and tickets being directed his way.

At 10:30, Curtis had a Norwegian lesson which went excellently and then he got back to many messages and tickets again.

Shortly after finishing his lesson, he had a meeting around a project to discuss requirements and ensure that everyone was on the same page. That went well and progress was made, which is terrific!

We had some lunch and then Curtis did some project work and managed to start and finish a project in an hour.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by continuing on with putting some of the HR documents on to the HR system as a template. She then joined the weekly meeting and provided updates for the department she is in.

After the meeting Kim wrote up a few things for her colleague and sent them over. She then joined a meeting to discuss a candidate, which went well.

In the afternoon Kim focused on finishing the HR paperwork she started earlier and also updated some other information on that system too.

Kim also managed to get a few things done for the facilities project.

Evening

Kim went out to the shop to get some wine for the dinner (and to drink a little, of course) and something from the pharmacy.

We made a mushroom and tomato pasta which we’ve not had for a while and it was excellent!

We ate and relaxed for the evening and had a few discussions with the agent who is selling our apartment with regards to what we need to do etc.

Place 72 – Day 489: Vancouver, BC – Late Night Shopping

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a surprisingly busy day today!

He had to do a surprise offboard in the morning and then after that he had a project related meeting.

Curtis did some tickets up until lunch and then had an onboard to do for a contractor and there were some odd things he needed to do for that so it took some time.

In the late afternoon, he helped a few people with some password issues and then the day was done!

Kim’s Day

Today Kim joined the weekly meeting and gave a couple of updates! Technically, after the weekly meeting everyone has finished for the year, which is so lovely. However, Kim has a few more things to finish up so she sent out a few emails and made notes for the new year.

Around midday Kim popped out to the office to pick some things up to take to the CEO as she was picking something up from them. So she went from the office to their house, dropped things off and picked up the things that she needed.

Once she was home Kim had some lunch and relaxed for a bit before heading to a phone shop to get a contract and SIM for the company. She was also able to pick a number so Kim chose one that is perfect for the company.

After this she met up with a colleague to give them a card that had come in the post yesterday. They then went for a quick walk before someone from the office building called and asked Kim to pop in to check something. Once Kim was at her car they said she didn’t need to go in, so she went home and relaxed.

Evening

We tried to go shopping right after work, but realised how large the queue was, so we came back home and had some leftover stew for dinner!

We ate that, relaxed for a bit and then at 20:30 we went to the shop as we knew it would be pretty quiet.

We managed to get everything we needed and did it super fast!

We got back home and chilled for the rest of the night, though it felt weird as we usually get home around 18:00 from doing the shopping, not 21:45.

Place 72 – Day 477: Vancouver, BC – Showing Off Some Projects

Curtis’ Day

Curtis checked on someone this morning with regards to the email work he did yesterday for them.

It didn’t work! So he scheduled a time to try and fix it for them.

After this, Curtis had another email fix to do for someone, but with a different mailbox. He’ll need to do this with a couple of others too, but he’s testing it with this person first. This one seemed to go well, but only time shall tell!

Curtis then did the fix for the other person from the morning and then he discovered a new project through something someone was discussing in the company.

In the afternoon, Curtis did some security training which is company mandated, which was just watching some videos.

He did some other work and admin and then was done for the day.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim arranged for another chat with someone who had interviewed earlier in the week, as they had a couple of questions that came up after reviewing the interview and their application. So before that happened Kim hopped on a call with her colleague to go over the questions they wanted to ask. They both then joined the call and had a wonderful chat with the candidate.

After the chat Kim and her colleague called again to go over some information needed for the HR software. They updated all the missing fields in one section, which means the software is pretty much set up and ready to go.

Today Kim was also showing the CEO and other executive members the facilities project, so Kim headed out to the location, showed them the projects, informed them of ideas and answered any questions. Kim was so pleased with how it went as everyone seemed to be happy with the options.

Once Kim was home and had eaten lunch she organised the delivery of the laptop thats going out to a new starter. She also sent out some invites for the connect four tournament games next week.

For the rest of the day Kim worked on the quiz for the winter party! She added all the media and answers for the first 13 questions and then added an additional 10 questions! So she only has a few more to do before its finished!

Evening

We didn’t have much of a plan for dinner, so we just had some frozen pizza.

We watched some TV and played some games then Kim watched the remainder of her film she was watching whilst Curtis played some games.

Place 72 – Day 381: Vancouver, BC – Doing Network Stuff & Taco Tuesday!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting right at 09:00 and that lasted for about an hour and 15 minutes which was longer than anticipated.

Curtis got ready to leave the apartment after this as he had to do the thing he planned to do yesterday.

He and a colleague got to the office and began moving the equipment they needed to move.

Wearing masks, Curtis had his colleague had to move a large, heavy piece of equipment to another big container.

This had to be done carefully which was fairly easy but took some time. There were many screws that needed to be taken out as well as multiple things to be turned off in certain orders etc.

Curtis and his colleague were very happy to get it done and it went really well, which was the best part.

After that, Curtis went to meet Kim for lunch!

We went to Tacofino and got a couple of tacos each which were, as always, terrific!

We ate these and then Kim went back to work whilst Curtis headed home.

Curtis caught up with a lot from the rest of the day and did some tickets but the rest of the day went very fast!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with voicemails, and that kept getting interrupted by real time calls! To get up and about she then put all the kitchen stuff she has hoarded in the meeting room into some of the kitchen cupboards, so that frees up a lot of room.

For the last part of the morning Kim went over the list of people with access cards and updated the building with all the names of people who are no longer with the company.

After lunch Kim continued cleaning up the office. She removed a load of bankers boxes from the mass shredding and put them at a colleagues desk as she may need them. She moved a few of the empty drawers around and then put the group meeting space back together.

Kim then had a catchup with her colleague before she left to head home. At the end she went over her dream plan for the office set up and it went well, so Kim will pull some information together and see if it would work.

Evening

In the evening, Kim stopped on the way home so she could get some white wine to make dinner with.

Kim got home and made a terrific chicken and mushroom risotto which we ate whilst watching some YouTube videos.

We watched some more TV and relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 312: Vancouver, BC – Constant Issues & More Office Organisation

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very irritating day today.

He had the zoom webinar and then after that he spent most of the morning doing computer checkups. Most of this should be able to be done without even contacting the users, but for some reason Curtis’ laptop was being a pain, so it meant he had to contact each user and either get them to do some things or have a Zoom call with them and do it for them.

After lunch, Curtis had a couple of tickets to do and then had a long Zoom call with someone to try and get an issue fixed, but unfortunately he wasn’t able to get anywhere with it, other than ruling out possible fixes, so it’s back to the drawing board.

Kim’s Day

Kim took the mid week catch up call from home and today it was just her and one other person, but someone she had not met before! So it was great to meet them and say hello.

Once she was in the office Kim started on peeling the signs off the bin doors and removing all the loose tape too. She then organised the new bins and put the signs above them.

Kim had a call from a vendor who she is waiting on a response from to tell her that they haven’t done anything but are going to. Which seemed like a total waste of time, especially given that they had been calling multiple times a day just to give that message.

In the early afternoon Kim had a jackbox game planned, but only one person joined so they had a quick chat. For the afternoon Kim continued to reorganise the office. She emptied more drawers, removed some tables and tagged desks that IT need to look at tomorrow. It was a long but good and successful day.

Towards the end of the afternoon Kim wrote up a to do list for herself and IT for tomorrow.

A Relaxing Bath

Once Kim got home, Kim decided to head to the pharmacy down the road to get some drain unblocker for our bath as it has been getting more and more blocked.

Once she got that and came back, she had a nice long relaxing bath which was just what she needed.

We then made a veggie stir fry for dinner, but we ended up not having enough noodles for 2 people, so we had sweet & sour chicken with rice and vegetables and Curtis will have the stir fry for lunch tomorrow.

We watched some TV and then went to bed. Nice, simple & relaxing evening.
