Place 72 – Day 2: Vancouver, BC – Granville Island

Amazing Sleep

Interestingly, we chose to sleep on a double mattress on the floor as it seemed more comfortable than a sofa bed and boy, were we right!

We had a terrific night of sleep and woke up pretty fresh this morning.

We had some cereal, watched a YouTube video and then got started with the day.

We decided we would check out a place called Granville Island.

Getting To Granville Island

We walked, almost directly straight, to a ferry port which had a ferry leaving every 5 minutes to go to the island.

We jumped on the boat to the island and paid our $5.50 return before jetting off.

The Island

We got to the island and firstly thought how awesome it looked! Compared to the city, everything was so small and hip-looking.

We went for a wander around and first entered a market in which there were shops from local artists that have made all different things from jewellery to clothing.

We walked out of this area and into the general public market. This place had a lot of different things, including food, fruit & vegetables, meats, cheeses & coffee.

We walked around this for a while and then went outside and looked at the backstreets.

These streets didn’t have too much, but there was a blacksmith which was cool to see!

Kim got to see a couple of dogs, too. A malamute and two Australian shepherds.

Australian Shepherds

We grabbed a slice of pizza and a coffee and just watched the world go by.

Ride Back

We took the ferry back and it had really become a beautiful day, so when we got back to the mainland we had a bit of a walk.

Waterside Walk

We walked down beside the water and just watched…

There was an odd circular piece of metal, which we took a photo through as we thought it looked cool. You can see the ships in the background.

We started walking back to the apartment and came across the aquatics centre, which we popped into just to take a look.

We got back to the apartment and relaxed a little before going out to get food.

Dinner

Using the remainder of the sauce from yesterday, we had ravioli for dinner.

After we had that, we had some mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Get Out

We watched the film ‘Get Out’ (finally!) and we quite enjoyed it, though wasn’t really what we expected.

Exciting News

In other exciting news, Kim has been accepted for her Canada work visa!

We are hoping Curtis will be accepted soon, too…but we have more traveling to do first, anyway!

Place 49 – Day 297: Auckland – Couples Weekend Away

We were up at 07:30, which was a little late for the time we needed to be up as Josh and Danielle arrived at that time also! We rushed and got everything we needed into the car and then off we went.

We stopped at mcdonalds for the mandatory road trip breakfast, and then went onward to Matakana.

Josh’s grandparents have a house up in Matakana, which we were going to for the weekend.

We stopped at the supermarket en-route so that Kim could get the food for dinner as she was making it.

Once we got to the house, we stopped out stuff and went for a walk down to the coast side where we walked along rocks to a small beach, then we walked up the side of the hill for a nice view!

Both of us cut our feet on the oyster shells around the rocks, so Danielle checked Kim’s feet to ensure they were ok!

We left this area and walked back, through all of the incredibly deep, thick mud, and made it back to shore.

When we got back, we walked all the way back to the house where we had some homemade pizza from the pizza oven!

After pizza, we relaxed for a bit and then went down to the coast to use Josh’s new boat! The weather had changed so it wasn’t as nice as it was, but the boat ride was still fun. We went to a nice beach off the coast, which had beautiful sand and no-one there. When we pulled up there were two stingrays there!

We decided to leave that beach as it was getting windy and we headed to Matakana via the water. On the way, Josh realised we may not have enough fuel, so we drove back and ki km and Josh went onto the rope swing instead.

Once we finished this, we went back to the house and got ready to have dinner.

Kim and Danielle made chilli and lime chicken with corn on the cob and home-made wedges.

We ate our dinner in front of the fire outside and then went inside to play cards.

We played rummy as well as drank some of Josh’s 15 year Glennfiddich, our honey bourbon and some Jameson from Josh’s grandad.

We all eventually got very tired as it had been a long day, but an incredible one! We had great fun even just chilling out drinking and playing cards.
