Place 72 – Day 431: Vancouver, BC – Autumn Is Here!

Curtis’ Hockey

Curtis’ team won their game last night, which was good, but there was controversy again!

The other team’s goalie pulled his groin at the end of the 1st period, so the other team had to get a player into the goalie gear and play him in net!

Curtis managed to get an assist and his team won 4-1, but felt bad for the other team a bit and hoped the goalie was ok!

Autumn Is Here!

We went out today for a walk to and around Stanley Park.

We walked a different way to get to an Italian coffee shop which we had some nice coffee from!

We had a long walk for a few hours and it was much colder due to it being autumn now. It was beautiful outside, but much colder.

Katsu

We got home and relaxed for a bit, playing some games, doing some research for our PR & watching some TV.

We then went out to do the shop at around 17:45, which felt much later as it was so dark!

We got the shop done and headed back home, where Kim made a chicken katsu curry.

The chicken was really good, but for some reason the sauce didn’t turn out ask expected, which was a little disappointing.

We chilled out for the evening, it was a little colder too than it has been, so it felt nice and cosy.

Needed Sleep

We woke up pretty late today but we really needed the sleep!

We felt pretty great this morning, but it was a little cold this morning for the first time in a while.

We had more cinnamon rolls this morning which were delicious as always, and watched a bit of TV.

Belgian Cafe & Walk

Once we got ourselves ready we went down to the Belgian cafe that Kim went to yesterday and got ourselves some coffee! Curtis had a cappuccino and Kim had a mocha, as she did yesterday. These coffees were great!

We went for a bit of a walk along the sea wall, in the newly cold weather here in Vancouver.

We walked back home and once we got back we did a bit of research for how to get permanent residence here in Vancouver so we can stay for another year. Our plans have changed as we did plan to leave in May but due to a few different circumstances we are looking to stay for a bit, but our current visa ends in May.

Sausage & Mash

We had sausages (Curtis had pork and Kim had chicken) and mash for dinner, along with Yorkshire puddings and gravy.

We ate this and watched a bit of TV.

Hockey, Frozen II & More Research

Curtis has a hockey game tonight, so he’ll be heading off to that later today, and Kim plans to watch Frozen II, as well as do a lot more research on the PR.

Last Night’s Hockey

Curtis’ team did not do as well as they have been!

The game ended 4-4, but Curtis’ team were winning by two goals twice and managed to throw both leads away!

The game went to a shootout and Curtis took one shot, but the goalie made an incredible save.

As no one won in the shootout, the game ended a tie.

Curtis’ team haven’t lost yet, still, but a tie wasn’t the desired result.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis spent most of his day doing the project work from yesterday, as well as some tickets.

He had his Norwegian lesson for an hour which went well, and then he did more project work.

He did his project work whilst on a call with some colleagues to talk about it and figure out some stuff together.

That was pretty much the entire day, just getting the project all sorted, as well as the tickets he did.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim had a second interview for the role she is really excited about. She got herself prepared and ready for the interview. She ensured that the mic and camera were working, that she had water and the laptop was on charge.

Kim joined the meeting nice and early and waited to get going. The interview went well, but Kim wasn’t sure she was what they are looking for or that the interview didn’t go perfectly.

For the rest of the morning Kim tried to relax and not worry about it. Then during lunch Kim got an email asking her if tomorrow works for a third (and final) interview!

She was so happy and relieved and set up the interview right away.

Kim then spent some time researching the person she will be interviewing with and a check of her CV and the job listing.

Kim listed the mini hockey set for sale on Facebook over the weekend and someone bought and collected it today. Its great for storage and space, but sad to see it go, it kept Kim and Curtis sane during the first few months of the pandemic for sure! There just isn’t the space in this apartment and so it made sense to go to someone else.

In the late afternoon Kim went for a nice walk with her friend and their dog. They grabbed a coffee and a snack and had a great catchup. They then visited a pet store on the way back and there was a puppy training session about to happen so Kim met and said hello to a few puppies and was very happy about that.

Evening

After Kim got back from her time out with her friend, we had leftover egg fried rice and watched a bit of TV.

We finished watched The Boys Season 2 and then started the new Great British Bake Off season, which we didn’t realise was a thing!

Place 72 – Day 425: Vancouver, BC – Another Week, More Applications

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a plan to get a lot of project work done today, which he did!

Curtis had some tickets to do first thing in the morning and then he had his weekly team meeting followed by starting the project work.

The work was mostly just looking at some things and making decisions on them, but he got a good chunk done throughout the day, as well as a lot of tickets, too.

Kim’s Day

Kim had an uneventful day today! She spent most of the afternoon applying for jobs.

Mid-afternoon, she reached out to the people she is having an interview tomorrow with as Kim hadn’t received a meeting invite or link. They then confirmed that they aren’t using the same link as last week and sent across a new one, so it’s good she checked!

Kim then tested the link and made sure that everything was working.

Evening

Curtis has another hockey game tonight, a late one (starting at 22:45) and so we relaxed and watched some TV after he finished work and then Kim made an amazing egg fried rice for dinner.

We ate and watched some more TV and then Curtis left the apartment around 21:45 to head to hockey.

Whilst Curtis was out, Kim did some laundry, vacuuming and a few other things around the apartment.

BIG Win!

Curtis’ hockey game last night went extremely well!

His team won 7-0…And Curtis got a goal! That’s 2 points in 3 games so far. Going well!

When Curtis drove home, he managed to scrape the rear wheel arch on a pillar whilst parking back at home. We have an awkward space in our parking lot and Curtis hasn’t had much practice with it…It doesn’t really make much of a difference, and we had one on the opposite side from the person who owned it before us, so now it just matches!

Cinnamon Buns!

We had the cinnamon buns that Kim made for breakfast this morning!

They didn’t grow as much when cooking as Kim wanted, but they were still delicious, especially with the icing and strawberries that Kim made with them!

Murrin Provincial Park

We headed out once we got ready and went to Murrin Provincial Park. This place was not far from where we went last week.

This is a lake but surrounded by hiking trails, and when we got there we weren’t really sure where we were meant to go, so we just started following a trail!

The trail turned out to be a bit of a scramble, but it was really good fun! The weather has certainly got a bit colder, which is great for climbing around and hiking.

We hiked and hiked and got higher and higher until we were right at the top, with a beautiful view of the large lake!

It was pretty windy up there, so we headed down and that began our decent.

We came across some people rock climbing, which was pretty cool to see, but we tried not to distract them so we continued down.

Eventually, we got to the bottom and it was about a 1/2 hour hike in the end which felt good, but it was time for some food!

We drove up to Squamish and got a subway and a coffee (from Starbucks).

We ate our Subway and then drove on home.

Pizza!

Once we got home, we just relaxed for a while and then when we got hungry, we walked up to our local pizza place, Pizza Garden, which makes the most incredible Italian pizza, and grabbed a 4 cheese pizza from there.

It turns out, 4 cheese pizza isn’t what we usually get, so it was a little weird but still pretty tasty!

Once we ate, we watched the film Anna on Amazon Video, then played some games and watched more TV.

Place 72 – Day 422: Vancouver, BC – Meeting All The Friends

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting fairly early about a potential security risk, and then he had a team meeting right after which was about 30 minutes long.

Curtis did some tickets and then had a team meeting about laptops and the current amount each office has in stock and what they want to do with them.

Curtis did a few more things in the late afternoon and then was done for the week!

Kim’s Day

Kim had a busy day today! She went and met a friend for a long, mask wearing walk and it was amazing. She hasn’t seen this friend in a few months and they had so much to catch up on. On the drive over Kim watched a massive train go past for about 10 minutes, it just went on and on! It was huge!

After the walk Kim stopped by the pole studio to see another friend where they had a nice 2 meters apart chat and that was also lovely.

On her way back home Kim stopped at the shop to pick up a few things and she got a rolling pin. Kim really enjoyed making the naan breads a few weeks ago and will now try skillingsboller, or Scandinavian cinnamon buns. They are Curtis’s favorite sweet treat when in Bergen, so Kim is really excited to try to make these while Curtis is at hockey tonight.

Evening

Curtis has a hockey game tonight, so we had some simple chicken pesto pasta for dinner and relaxed, and then Curtis drove out to hockey.

(As usual, the score etc shall be on tomorrow’s blog!)

Curtis should get home at a fairly decent time, so we will watch a bit of TV and relax before going to bed.

Place 72 – Day 419: Vancouver, BC – Finding New Clothes

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started the day with an orientation. He chatted with a new hire and ensured they could do everything they needed to and answered any of their questions.

Not long after that, Curtis had his long weekly team meeting and then did some tickets before lunch.

After lunch, Curtis got his personal learning plan written up and sent off to the required people and then he did a few more tickets as well as some admin.

Kim’s Day

After a relaxing morning Kim went to apply to two jobs, but ended up sending applications in for about 7 roles. So thats exciting!

In preparation for interviews Kim thought it would be a good idea to have some interview clothes ready so she popped to a few places but didn’t find anything. She is also trying to buy less stuff in general so she went to a thrift shop, but unfortunately there wasn’t anything in her size that Kim could wear to an interview. When she got home Kim did find some shoes that would work, so she might get those!

Evening

We had leftovers from last night’s roast for dinner and it was as delicious as it was yesterday.

We watched a bit of TV and then Curtis drove off to hockey at around 21:30.

As the game is late, we will let you know the score tomorrow!

In the evening Kim decided on swapping out her summer to winter clothes. She collected the winter stuff from the storage locker in the car park and sorted through all of her clothes. She has now found a few more items to donate, so thats good!

Once Curtis gets back home it will be pretty late, so it will be right to bed after a shower.

Last Night’s Game

Curtis’ drive to hockey last night was perfectly fine.

Once he arrived, due to COVID-19, getting changed has to be done before entering the rink, so everyone did so in the parking lot.

15 minutes before game time, everyone gets let into a staging area where you can put your skates on and then get onto the ice!

Curtis took warmup to get used to skating again, he hasn’t skated or played hockey since March!

The game started weirdly, with the other team waiting on their goalie, so they played with a player in net! He played actually very well in net and Curtis’ team wasn’t able to get one by him.

That being said, once the goalie came in, Curtis’ team started scoring! They went up 4-0, with the game ending 4-2, so a nice win to start the season, and Curtis got an assist.

You only get 15 minutes in the staging area and then have to leave to the parking lot again.

Curtis drove himself home and was certainly ready for some sleep, but was glad the game went well and loved playing hockey again.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day today was pretty quiet overall and he had no meetings either, which was good.

Curtis did a few things here and there, some training and some tickets, but certainly a quiet day, especially in relation to yesterday!

Kim’s Day

Kim spent a bit of the morning preparing for her phone screen interview and then awaited the call. The interview went so well, there is a potential bit of learning Kim will either need and be okay, or could mean that she isn’t the right fit for the job. She is really interested in this position so Kim is really hopeful that it won’t be a big issue, but we will wait and see! Hopefully Kim will get an idea tomorrow.

Kim the had some breakfast and a nice slow morning. She then received an email saying that another role would like her to progress to the next round! So thats great! Kim has to submit a questionnaire and a video as to why she is a great candidate. Its not something Kim has done before so she is excited for the challenge for sure! She started the questionnaire in the afternoon and will probably tackle the video tomorrow.

Pole Dancing

Kims classes today were so fun! They went over a different style invert and a spin that Kim loves in the first class and in the second they worked on a beautiful combo that Kim was able to get a few aspects of. The first move Kim loved and she was able to do both variations, which is great. Kim wasn’t great at the other part of the combo, bur never mind its just something she can work on!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got things ready to head to the office this morning and then took the walk down.

Once he got there, he got a laptop from the storage room and started setting that up.

Curtis also had to do some project work which involved some testing, seeing if certain websites could be accessed in different ways.

Curtis did that and then continued setting up the laptop.

He had a meeting to discuss his personal learning plan and how he wishes to develop within the next 6 months to a year.

Curtis finished up the laptop setup and booked a courier to pick it up.

After that, Curtis had a call with someone to try and fix something for them, but after 1.5 hours of trying, they couldn’t get it working, which was frustrating!

Curtis did a few more things and eventually walked home around 16:00. Long, busy, tiring day!

Kim’s Day

Kim has got a phone interview for tomorrow! She received an email to set up a 20-30 minute chat with a recruiter for one of the positions that she is really excited about. Once she set up the time Kim took a deeper look into the company and is now more excited than she was previously. It will be a similar role that she is used to but with a few more responsibilities, but its always good to learn more!

In the afternoon Kim did a bit of housework and had a lazier day. She will probably apply to a few jobs while Curtis is at hockey tonight.

The Season Begins!

Curtis got back home and we watched a bit of TV, then Kim made some chicken pasta for dinner.

We ate that and then Curtis hopped in the car and drove up to the hockey rink for his first game of the season!

We will update you on the game tomorrow, as it’s a fairly late one.

Kim did some job searching whilst Curtis was at hockey and she did a few other things around the apartment.

Place 72 – Day 358: Vancouver, BC – Lost Lagoon

Lost Lagoon

We woke up at a good time today and had some breakfast.

We had a grilled cheese again and then got ready for the day.

We then went out to do our usual weekend walk on the seawall, along the beaches and across to Stanley Park.

There were far too many people outside today, so we had to keep dodging them, but once we got to Stanley Park, it was a little less populated.

We went to Lost Lagoon at Stanley Park which was a big lake and it was actually very nice and incredibly peaceful!

We walked around here for a while and then went to grab a drink from the pharmacy nearby.

We left there and walked back home, which took about 30 minutes.

Goodbye, Leafs

We got back home and Curtis watched the leafs game. This was the final game of the series, so the winner moves on.

Unfortunately, the Leafs lost 3-0, so that’s a short lived return of hockey for Curtis!

Home Pole Dancing

Kim did some pole dancing at home whilst Curtis watched hockey. She loves the fact she can do stuff at home and she had some success with it, too.

Gnocchi

We had gnocchi for dinner, which was just from a packet so nothing fancy, but Kim made a homemade sauce which was really good.

We watched some TV and played some games as usual for the evenings these days!
