Place 70 – Day 6: Victoria,BC – New Jeans

When we woke up, the sun was shining through the blind right on us, which was a change from the recent weather! That being said, it was still 0°.

We had breakfast and then left to go to the uptown mall. To do so, we took the bus, which only took about 25 minutes.

Once we got there, the goal was to find a new wall plug adapter and some new jeans for each of us.

We found the plug right away, which was a result, and then we went looking for jeans.

We went to a few shops but couldn’t really find anything great for Kim, but Curtis did get some from H&M.

we then got tired and hungry, so stopped for some noodles at ‘The Noodle Box’. We had thought it would be a snack size, but it was huge!

We ate our ‘snack’ and went for more of a walk and tried to find more clothes shops, which we were unable to, so we went back to H&M and Kim got some jeans from there.

To treat ourselves for succeeding, we went to Starbucks and got a small hot chocolate each.

We caught the bus back to the city and went to the apartment to get a couple of places booked up for future endeavours.

We then walked down you the ice rink for another royals game!

This was a really good game, coming close at the end but the royals unfortunely lost.

We walked home and went straight to bed!

Place 63 – Day 2: Queenstown – River Bodyboarding

Curtis and Maggie both woke up with colds this morning!

We all had croissants for breakfast and then Tom & Kim went out to do some river bodyboarding.

The river bodyboarding was a 4+ hour trip in which they had to drive down to Queenstown, get picked up by a bus and get driven out to a river. Kim and Tom ended up being with an American family, but their guides were very good!

They eventually got to the river and were told that they couldn’t use the GoPro, which was a shame, so we got no footage of the event.

The first go was a bit more difficult as they had to get used to it, but on the second run it was much easier and it was all a lot of fun!

Once completed, there was a small snack area with musli bars and juice and then they had to get back on the bus. The bus took a very long time to get back to Queenstown and once back there, they went to the supermarket and then back home.

Whilst Kim and Tom were out, Curtis and Maggie chilled. Curtis got a lot of visa related things done and watched hockey.

When everyone was home, we had salad again for dinner and watched a bit of TV. All of a sudden, it was 22:00 so we all headed off to bed. Tonight is our last night in Queenstown but we have some fun planned tomorrow!

Place 49 – Day 358: Auckland – Brunch & A Chinese Takeaway

We woke up a little later today, but still with enough time for Kim to get ready and then go for brunch with Tabitha.

For brunch, they went to Honey Cafe, which Kim had never been to before. The food was excellent! Kim had french toast with bacon, banana & strawberries.

Kim left brunch with Tabitha and they then went up to Albany, which they went to for a bit of shopping. Well, mostly window shopping!

After a good few hours, Kim came home and when she got home, Curtis had just finished watching the Leafs game, so that was perfect timing!

We caught up and chilled out for a bit and then went out to get a chinese takeaway. We can’t think of the last time we got a Chinese takeaway.

We shared chicken curry and sweet & sour rice.

It was adequate, but still not great in comparison to the UK!

We watched A Murder on The Orient Express with dinner, which again, was adequate but not excellent.

Kim spoke with her family briefly, and then it was bedtime. Curtis is back at the client tomorrow and more than likely for the next week.

Place 49 – Day 344: Auckland – The First Proper Sunday in Weeks

We eventually woke up at 09:45, had some breakfast and chilled out.

We had a plan to meet some friends for lunch in a pub garden but the weather was terrible again so we postponed it until next week.

Due to this, our day was free!

At 13:00, Curtis sat and watched the Leafs game. As Curtis started to watch, Kim braved the weather and went to look in the English food shop to see if there were any pigs in blankets…There were not.

Kim stopped off to get some instant noodles each for lunch as well as to look for some cocktail sausages…Again, there were none.

Once Kim arrived home, we did absolutely nothing for the rest of the day…Exactly how a Sunday should be!

For dinner, we were going to have the remaining breaded chicken meatballs, but they just wouldn’t cook correctly so we gave up and had a beef brisket we had bought.

The beef brisket was delicious, but very peppery! We had this with kumara fries and asparagus.

After dinner it was time to watch some TV. We started with The Apprentice and then watched half of Blue Planet 2, but then wanted a change of mood so watched The Russell Howard Hour to finish the weekend.

Not many weeks remaining of work now!

Place 49 – Day 329: Auckland – Eating A Scorpion 🦂

We got up at 08:00 and got showered, Curtis had breakfast and we left the house at around 09:00 and droveto the Botany ice rink.

Curtis had his final time on the ice in New Zealand! Curtis’ former team (the scorpions) had a scrimmage as an end of year ‘goodbye’. The scrimmage was incredibly fun and there was checking allowed, too!

Curtis did have fun at the start of the scrimmage, having to use rental skates as the skates he was borrowing were not there just yet.

Luckily, the skates arrived shortly after starting so Curtis changed into those.

Curtis threw a few good hits but also got hit very well a couple of times.

At the end, Curtis and a teammate did a penguin slide…because why not?

After the scrimmage, we left to go and get some meat and drinks for the end of season BBQ!

The captain of the team hosted it at his house, so we got the food and went there. The Leafs were playing so we had that on in the background whilst we ate and had a laugh or two.

After eating, Curtis had to eat a scorpion! Curtis had to do this as he got the most penalty minutes on the team for the season (34 PIMs in 20 games if the playoffs are included).

The scorpion didn’t actually taste tok bad, but was pretty dry and had an odd texture.

We stayed for a while and then left to come home.

After we were home, we relaxed for a bit and then went shopping. We got a coffee too whilst we shopped, of course!

We got back home and just spent the rest of the evening watching TV and finally finishing Bodyguard which is an excellent series!

Place 49 – Day 323: Auckland – Steak Sunday

We woke up nice and late at 11:30, just in time for Curtis to watch hockey and make a delicious coffee.

Whilst Curtis watched the Leafs game, Kim spoke with her mum and dad on FaceTime.

After hockey, Curtis showered, took the bins out and gave the floor a once over with the vacuum before we left to go to the shops.

We stopped on the way to pickup a plate which Kim leftover at the party yesterday, and then onto the shop we went.

We got a few things, but namely steaks for tonight’s dinner.

We got back home and relaxed for a bit before making dinner.

We had a scotch fillet steak with peas, kumara wedges, mushrooms and a red wine jus. Delicious.

We ate our dinner and watched some YouTube videos before we watched a film and ate ice cream. We watched The House which is a pretty funny film, but wouldn’t say it’s the best we’ve seen.

Tomorrow is work, which isn’t great…

Place 49 – Day 316: Auckland – We Did Nothing

Curtis woke up at 08:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep so he stayed awake.

Kim woke up at 10:45 and we chilled out until 12:00 which is when the Leafs game started, so Curtis watched that and Kim went out to get breakfast supplies.

Kim made a breakfast bagel with hash browns. Along with this, we had a coffee made from the ground beans we bought at our favourite coffee shop yesterday. The ratios we made the coffee with were a little off, but it was still delicious!

After hockey finished, we did some housework. We vacuumed, ironed and cleaned the bathroom.

When we finished doing housework, we just chilled out and watched some YouTube videos before we got hungry and made dinner.

We marinated some thin steak strips with salt, pepper and balsamic and had that with a salad and kumara. It was all fabulous!

Other than doing that, we did nothing all day and it was perfect!
