Place 72 – Day 402: Vancouver, BC – Friends!

We woke up around 11:00 and had some breakfast.

Kim had some cheese toasties and Curtis had fried eggs on toast.

We watched a bit of TV and then got ready for the day.

Kim met up with two friends today! It was great! She went and met her friend at a coffee shop and then they went for a nice, distanced, walk and then sat on a bench and caught up!

After this she met another friend for Blizzards and then went to a different park, sat on a bench and had a catch up. It was so lovely to see them!

Kim got back home and did some extra work on her CV and chatted about her day with Curtis.

After this, we had some frozen pizza for dinner and watched some TV for the evening.

Place 72 – Day 396: Vancouver, BC – Sunday

We woke up and spoke with Curtis’ family for an hour or so, which was a really nice catch up.

We had breakfast after this, which was similar to yesterday’s.

We did pretty much nothing for the rest of the day. Played some games, watched some TV shows.

We had some leftovers for dinner from yesterday’s delicious fried rice and then we went down to Dairy Queen to get a blizzard ice cream!

We got back and watched some TV, then Kim had a bath and relaxed.

We finished the evening with a hot chocolate and then headed to bed, ready to go back to doing work again.

Place 72 – Day 394: Vancouver, BC – Holiday Time!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis and a meeting at 09:30 which was to show someone around some software and see if he can help them with any questions they had.

After that, Curtis had his weekly team meeting which lasted for about an hour and then after that, the day got crazy!

Curtis did constant ticket work until lunch time, and then after that he had a meeting with his team to talk about some survey responses and statistics.

After that, Curtis had a bunch more work to do and had to reach out to some people, as well as ensure he didn’t have any work left for during his vacation for the rest of the week.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by working on some emails she plans to send out when she gets back from her leave for the rest of this week. In the morning she also set up an ad hoc visit for someone to work from the office, a return for a laptop and sent out a gift card.

In the afternoon Kim set up a couple of hot desks, just in case someone wants to come in while she is away. Then its all set up and someone else doesn’t have to do it! Then for the rest of the afternoon Kim sorted her expenses.

Evening

Kim got back home as Curtis was just finishing off our baked potatoes for dinner.

We ate those and watched some TV and then we went down to 7-Eleven and Kim got an ice cream there.

We got home and Curtis ate the remaining ice cream we had at home and Kim ate her ice cream.

We did some packing to be ready to leave tomorrow and we got a few things sorted throughout the evening, such as vacuuming and ensuring all the dishes were done etc.

We aren’t up too early tomorrow and we have a few things to get done then we’re off for a brief drive!

Place 72 – Day 337: Vancouver, BC – Long Beach & Park Walk

We had a pretty relaxed morning after a not so good sleep last night.

Kim made some incredible crepes for breakfast, Curtis had syrup, cinnamon and strawberries whilst Kim had melted chocolate with strawberries.

We watched a bit of TV and then decided to get up and get ready.

We left the apartment all ready for a nice long walk, but first, coffee!

We stopped at Starbucks and grabbed some nice, cold, coffee to walk with.

We then walked down to English Bay, where we walked on the beach, dipped our feet into the water, but then kept walking on.

We walked all the way through to ‘third beach’, which is the third of three beaches, named ‘first beach, second beach & third beach’…Very inventive names!

We walked all the way across the seawall until we got to Stanley Park.

We walked through Stanley Park, which was great as we didn’t have the sun beating down on us for a bit.

We walked for a while through the park and then we turned around and started to walk back home, which was a while away!

We headed back home but with a stop to grab Kim an ice cream! It was very tasty, but melted VERY fast, so she had to sit down and eat it quickly in the shade, but that did give us time to watch some people play beach volleyball which was entertaining!

We eventually got home, very tired and very warm, excited to have a glass of water!

We had showers and relaxed and then played some mini golf on the Xbox for a bit.

Kim then made some Nandos-style chicken burgers and a salad for dinner which was so incredibly delicious!

We then watched some movies and TV!

All in all, a pretty great weekend!

Chat

We had a chat with Curtis’ family eight when we woke up!

It was great to catch up with them and see what they’d been up to and their plans for the next little while, as well as update them on us.

Sun & Ice Cream

The weather was so nice today that we went out for a bit, but first, we did a shop.

Once we finished the shop and unpacked it, we went out for a walk around the area and popped into Yaletown Gelato for an ice cream!

We each got one scoop, Curtis got dark chocolate and Kim got salted caramel.

Our ice creams were perfect, and we walked around the seawall on what felt a lot like a ‘normal’ weekend day, which was odd.

We stopped in to get a cold coffee each from Starbucks and then walked back home.

More Games & Lemon Drizzle

We got home and played some more games, which we are really enjoying doing now, and then it was probably a good time to do some laundry and make dinner.

We had a jar of carbonara sauce to use up so we had chicken and mushroom carbonara for dinner.

As well as making that, Kim made a lemon drizzle cake as well as some small lemon drizzle cakes, too.

We watched some TV and played some more games for the rest of the evening, but overall had a really great day and weekend!

Family Chat

Kim had a chat with her sister and mum quickly and then got ready for the day.

Ice Cream

Kim drove out to New Westminster to have a distanced meet up with a friend!

They went to an ice cream parlour and Kim got 2 scoops, salted caramel & chocolate, both of which were delicious and the ice cream was very cheap, too!

Kim sat in a park with her friend for a long while, just chatting and catching up on things they haven’t chatted about for a while.

Sweet Chilli Potato Wedges

Once Kim got back, Curtis went out to the pharmacy nearby and bought a ceasar salad kit to go with out dinner and then we did a few housekeeping things around the apartment.

We then made sweet chilli potato wedges and had the ceasar salad as a side and it was a perfect meal! Exactly what we were thinking about.

We watched Jimmy O Yang’s Amazon Original standup special whilst we ate, followed by a bit more TV.

Kim had her Sunday bath and relaxed and then we headed to bed ready to start a new week!

Place 72 – Day 200: Vancouver, BC – Board Games & Ice Cream Sundaes!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and actually had an onboard to complete, so he got that started and that took up a lot of the morning.

Just before that though, the nitro coffee people and turned up and Curtis spoke with them. They were eventually able to get it fixed! They noticed that when they had cleaned it last time, they’d tightened the taps too much and therefore it created a blockage! That now means the nitro is flowing as it should, which was a win.

Curtis did the onboard until 11:30, when he then went and played board games and had snacks with colleagues. This went on until 13:00.

Curtis used the rest of this time to get the rest of the onboarding done and setup the laptop.

This time led perfectly to the ice cream sundaes in the afternoon, which Curtis was looking forward to!

After eating that, Curtis helped a couple of people around the office with some issues, did some other tickets and then setup the desk for the new person starting Monday.

This took a while as it was being a pain, as usual.

Curtis finished up and then headed home.

Kim’s Day

Kim had an idea for a new Wiki page so she spent a lot of her day making that. She made a travel page and included information and links to hotels and other useful information that people may need all in one place!

In the morning Kim went to the Marriott for a coffee with their rep. It was great to catch up and have a talk about travel.
In the afternoon Kim dealt with a lot of emails organising the dishwasher repairs and other bits and bobs.

Cleaning & Playing Hockey Late!

Curtis got home and did all the cleaning of the apartment, taking out the recycling and cleaning/vacuuming etc.

After that, Curtis sorted his hockey equipment out, packing it away into the car and re-taping his stick.

Kim got back home and we watched some TV and made dinner!

We ate food and then left to go to Curtis’ hockey game, which starts at 22:30!

We will update about the hockey game tomorrow as it’s another late one.

Place 72 – Day 160: Vancouver, BC – Fort Langley, Cranberry Festival & Market!

Fort Langley, Cranberry Festival & Market

We were up at 10:00, had a quick breakfast, got ready, got in the car and headed on up to Fort Langley.

This is a small ‘township’ out east, fairly close to the USA border.

Fort Langley, BC

It took us around 1 hour to get there and then we had to find some parking as there were a lot of cars parked everywhere!

We managed to find a spot next to a school which was luckily just a short walk from the middle of the town.

We walked to the town and the first thing we saw was their farmer’s market, which they seem to do every Saturday. This was full of some jams, cheeses, booze and trinkets, all home made!

We smelled and saw a perogie stall which was busy, but they only took cash, so we walked down to (the only) bank in the town which there was a large queue for!

We got some money out and then went back up to get perogies. They had a few different things cooking, so we got a plate each with everything on!

There were perogies, a sausage, onions and some kind of hamburger meat wrapped in lettuce in a spice sauce, all topped with a cream sauce.

It was all ok, but Curtis had liked the sausage the most and the lettuce wrap thing the least.

Kim really liked the perogie and disliked the sausage the most.

Once we finished eating, we went over to the cranberry festival market.

This was a whole street rammed with stalls, a lot selling cranberry related items, such as cranberry beer, chocolate and bakery items.

We walked around looking at this for a while and trying a few samples, and then went to find a place for a coffee.

Cool Alleyway!

Curtis got a large cappuccino and it tasted odd. Kim wanted an ice cream so we found an ice cream place and she got a creamy salted caramel cone.

We watched the dragon boat race as someone from Kim’s work was apparently competing, but we didn’t see her.

After the race, we finished our food and drink and saw a couple of antique stores, so we had to go in! The town was old and quaint, so perfect for an antique store.

We spent probably far too long in there, but some of the items were super cool!

Work Stuff

We drove back home which didn’t take too long and we got back in perfect time for Curtis to watch the Leafs game.

Whilst he did that, Kim had to go to the city and do stuff for work, on a Saturday!

She rewarded herself by going to a few shops whilst she we in the area and managed to get us both dressing gowns too.

(Bad) Katsu Curry

Kim got home shortly after the leafs game finished and we decided it was dinner time.

We wanted Katsu Curry, so found a couple of Japanese restaurants and picked one.

We picked wrong!

This was a Japanese pub of some sort and was falling apart and was not busy at all.

We eventually ordered after waiting for a long time. We each got a chicken curry and we ordered a vegetable donburi to share.

All of the food was mediocre and the service was awful. We left and almost certainly won’t go back there again.

We got back home and snuggled on the sofa to watch some TV.

Coffee & Homesense

We eventually left the house and went up to check out a few things we needed from Homesense, but first, coffee!

Curtis wanted to get a cardamom latte to see if that is any good, but they didn’t have any, so he got a cappucino instead whilst Kim got a salted caramel hot chocolate.

We sat and relaxed for a bit and then went up to Homesense to find a few things. The main things we wanted were;

  • A duvet
  • An airtight contantainer for coffee
  • A dressing gown for Kim

We were able to get these things pretty easily and Curtis was also able to find a coat which he needed, and it was half price!

We got all of this (which was quite a bit of money) and then took it home before heading back out to go to the supermarket. We spent around $150 there which wasn’t too bad, but it was busy in there today.

Homemade Beef Stew

We got back home and Kim spent a couple of hours making a delicious beef stew with dumplings and a side of cauliflower cheese. A perfect warming dinner as the weather starts to get colder.

We settled and watched Vikings and had some ice cream.

A great Sunday night!

Day 72 – Day 118: Vancouver, BC – Steveston Town

Steveston Town

We had a lazy morning, just had a bagel each and watched some YouTube.

We eventually got ready and decided we wanted to go out for the day. We hopped in the car and googled to find somewhere fairly close to go as its long weekend, therefore all places places to go will be very busy, so we found somewhere a little different.

We drove for about 30 minutes to get to Steveston. This is a fairly small, former fishing town in Richmond.

We arrived and eventually found some parking. We had a couple of plan for whilst we were there, but we didn’t really know anything about the place.

Coffee, Of Course

We started by finding a coffee spot. We found a really nice, and cheap, place called Rocanini Roasters.

Curtis had a flat white and Kim had a mocha. They were both pretty good, but not the best we have had!

Former Tram

This town used to have a tram system that ran through it.

We went rright across from the coffee shop and there was the tram they used to have!

We walked along the tracks and came to a small forest walk, so we partook in that for a bit.The town is quaint but also a bit built up in some areas, though a lot of the older buildings are still around.

Waterside Walk

We walked along the side of the water for a while, just for something to do.We got to a point and wondered if we should continue as it didn’t seem that there was much going on, but we then saw a cool old building in the distance so wanted to investigate.

Former Fishing Area & Living Quarters

We stumbled upon the former fishing area, where there were living quarters and multiple buildings, which could be entered, which were used during this time.

This was a museum area and was actually very interesting.

The first building we entered was a building for both hanging nets as well as making things, such as steering wheels for boats.

There was many older artefacts still around and in good condition, as well as a lot of machinery.

We moved on from here to the living quarters.

All of these are segregated, so there were the likes of a Japanese house and a Chinese house.

These were all pretty small for the amount of people that would have lived in them.

Boat House

We finished off in the boat house, which had a few different uses but was used most recently to store and build boats.

We looked around and saw lots of things along with boats, such as a few ddifferent workshops, such as the engine workshop and the blacksmith.

Ice Cream!

We walked back and had previously spotted an ice cream place, so went and got one there.

Kim got salted caramel and chocolate and Curtis had whisky coffee.

We sat outside and had our ice cream and just chatted about our day!

After our ice cream, we got back into the car and drove home.

Hockey Gear

When we got home, Kim vacuumed the car whilst Curtis got his hockey gear ready! He has a team scrimmage tomorrow, which he is very excited for!

Kim went out to get some things from the shop and then when she got back she began to make dinner.

Sweet Chilli Wedges

We have been discussing having sweet chilli wedges for a few days now, so we finally decided to today, and it was an excellent choice.

We ate some dinner, drank some wine and watched some TV. A fun day all around!
