Place 72 – Day 980: Vancouver, BC – A New Barber

We woke up around 11:00 and Kim went to get us some croissants and coffee for breakfast.

We ate that and got ready slowly and then Curtis went out to the barber. His usual barber has moved back to Australia so Curtis had to use another barber from the same shop.

The barber seemed to do a good job, so he was happy with that. He walked back home after getting that done and then we went out for a walk to the beach.

We walked down to the beach, coffee in hand, and once we got to the beach, we got ourselves some ice cream! Curtis had mint chocolate chip ice cream and Kim had honeycomb ice cream. We sat on a bench and ate that, just watching the world play out.

Once we walked back home, we both had cold showers and then accidentally had a nap! After our nap, we had leftovers and a few things from the freezer for dinner.

We watched TV for the evening. There’s a heat warning this weekend and although it’s not as hot as last time, it is muggy.

Place 72 – Day 946: Vancouver, BC – Staying Out The Heat

Kim got up and went to the cats again, and then got out to Apple and she got a new laptop for work there.

After she got back home, she had some breakfast (Curtis had some before Kim got back) and then we got ready and went out for the day.

The plan was to go to a mall and get some shopping done that we needed to do. Therefore, we drove out to Burnaby and did just that, getting some free AC!

We got there and went to a few stores to look for a few different items. Unfortunately, there wasn’t too much of use there, so we took a bit of a break and went out to the French bakery/cafe we went to the last time we were in Burnaby. We got a tiramasu to share, an affogato each, as well as a berry lemonade, which was a surprising delight!

We went back to the mall after that and we managed to actually get some new flip flops for Kim and a few clothing options! It became more successful the second time!

We then headed back home and stopped off at the cats, but the owner was home so Kim had a quick chat with her and then we went back home.

We had nice cold showers, to get out of the insanely warm heat, and then we relaxed a little before Kim went out to the beach with a friend and their dog!

The weather was still very hot at night, but it was lovely to get to put her feet in the water.

Kim got home and we watched some TV and chilled out, trying to stop it being far too warm!

Tomorrow is meant to be EVEN HOTTER so we have that to look forward to.

Place 72 – Day 945: Vancouver, BC – Barnet Marine Park, Sunset Walk & Fancy Nitro Ice Cream

Today was HOT!

The temperature got to around 38°C today, also know as far too hot, so we wanted to enjoy the heat but also not burn to a crisp, so we tried to find somewhere that was a little more shaded but also new and beautiful.

Kim first started the day by going to her friend’s place to feed and play with the cats before coming home and making some french toast for breakfast.

Once we got ready, we headed out to Barnet Marine Park, with a stop for some coffee! The first cafe we stopped at turned out to be a little rubbish, so we went to one down the road which turned out to be wonderful! We each had excellent (cold!) Coffees. Kim’s was like a coffee milkshake… Delicious!

We left here and headed to the park. All the main parking was full, but we were able to find the overflow parking and go there.

We got down to the park/beach area and it wasn’t too busy and we found a spot to sit and relax at, in the shade.

We dipped our feet in the water and walked for a while and then we headed back to the car as it got a little too warm and we started to get hungry!

We stopped off at the kittens to play with them a bit and also to feed them. Once we left there, we went home and had leftover Chinese food for dinner.

We got ourselves ready again, after doing a little housework, and went out for a nice night walk!

We first stopped at Mr Ice Cream which is a very popular nitro-frozen ice cream place that has different flavours each day!

Curtis got a crème brûlée ice cream (where they actually torched the top with sugar to create the crackable top) and Kim had an oreo smores ice cream bar! These were delicious. We sat in a park and enjoyed these before we went for our walk.

We walked down to the beach and the weather was hot but managable, as there’s no sun so it was quite nice.

We walked on the beach, went into the water a bit and just chilled out in general whilst walking around. There were quite a few people out, partying and having fun, but we just stayed away and relaxed.

The sunset was beautiful! We managed to see a lot of the sunset which was a really nice touch to the end of the day.

We got back home fairly late and watched a bit of TV, as well as trying to cool down the apartment ready for sleeping!

Place 72 – Day 939: Vancouver, BC – Kittens & Ice Cream!

Croissants & A Friend

Curtis went to get croissants for breakfast and once we ate those and Kim showered, Kim went out to meet a friend and hang out in a park for a while.

Kittens!

Kim went to see the kittens that her friend had for a little bit and they were so cute!

Once Kim was done, she walked back home and then we both went out together.

New Shoes, Warmth & Ice Cream!

We went to get ice cream, specifically, at a place Kim went to around a year ago and remembered it was amazing, so we had to try it.

It was 28°C today, so super warm but beautiful! We got a drink when we got there and a light snack and we ate that whilst sat in a park nearby.

We then had a walk around the park and headed to a shop to get Kim some sandals as her feet were far too warm.

Once we got those, we went to the ice cream store, which had a bit of a queue, and waited patiently for our turn.

Curtis got a coffee flavoured ice cream and Kim got salted caramel. The ice cream was super delicious and we took it to the park and sat on the grass again, in the shade, just relaxing.

We eventually got up and had a bit more of a walk before heading back to the car around 17:50.

Fans, Supermarket & Leftovers

We drove back towards home and stopped at the supermarket but also popped into another store to get a couple of fans (it’s getting warm!) And some screws so we can hang the photo we bought a while ago!

We got back home and had leftovers form yesterday’s delicious Chinese food and then Kim had a shower and got herself ready for work tomorrow. It was too hot to have a bath this week.

Curtis is off work tomorrow, he had been given the day off to recognise National Indigenous Day in Canada, which is a great thing that the company is doing.

Place 72 – Day 862: Vancouver, BC – Another Desk & Beautiful Day

Family Chat

Kim’s family wanted a chat, so after breakfast we got ready and had a chat with them for an hour and a bit before we had to head out.

Another Desk

We picked up a desk we had seen a while ago which we are going to use for Curtis’ office in the new apartment.

We got that and it wasn’t too far from our new apartment so we walked over to pick it up and walked it to the new place.

We dropped it off and then went for a nice long walk.

Beautiful Day

The weather was beautiful today, nice and sunny but not too hot, so perfect to be outside, which clearly everyone else thought the same as it was busy outside!

We got a coffee for Curtis and then went to get Kim and ice cream. Whilst we waited in the queue for that, we saw subway had ‘potato bun’ snack sandwiches, so we got one those each, too.

We had a really nice long walk to the beach, keeping out of the way of everyone and just really enjoyed the weather.

Hockey & More Furniture Shopping

We got back home and Curtis watched the Leafs game and during that, Kim went out to Homesense to take a look at some other bits of furniture we may need for the new place.

She managed to find a small stool which also has storage that we can use at the entrance to store shoes and to sit on, because why not.

Kim took that over to the new apartment and also a chair from home as she will be at the new apartment tomorrow for some of the day waiting for the new sofa to be delivered!

Sweet Chicken Thighs

We had sweet chicken thighs for dinner along with some more potato salad.

We then relaxed for a bit together and Kim had a nice relaxing bath before heading to bed.

Place 72 – Day 463: Vancouver, BC – To The Doctor!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a slow day today, but he did some security investigation work and also had a meeting with regards to a project, but that wasn’t very long.

He did some training in the late afternoon which was good and then some tickets.

That was pretty much his day, not much to report on.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a very busy and successful day today! She started by logging in to all the websites she used again. And continuing to set up her new laptop. She also made notes, chased people and updated info for events coming up.

Around midday Kim joined the HR meeting and she even discussed aspects of a new role she wrote the job description for with people. From this Kim went straight into the social lunch where she had a great chat with various people. It was probably the first just casual chat with multiple people that Kim has had at this company and it was really lovely! Everyone is so nice and interesting, its wonderful!

After the social call Kim was out and about for the facilities project. She had a lot of meetings and it all went really well. When she got home Kim wrote up recommendations, updated documents and did a little research.

To The Doctor!

Curtis had a doctor appointment in the evening, so instead of trying to cook before that, we had some pizza for dinner.

Then, we drove out to the doctor so Curtis could get his ear checked out.

It turns out that it seems to be an ear wax blockage!

The doctor cleared the affected one and checked the other and sure enough, that seems blocked too, but not as bad, hence why Curtis hasn’t noticed.

The doctor says Curtis will hopefully see an improvement in a couple of hours, as there’s currently a lot of water in there that will block it now. We shall see! If it doesn’t improve, he’ll need to go back. He also has to use the solution he was using in the other ear so that it stops that one becoming fully blocked.

We left here and picked up an ice cream for Kim from DQ then we headed home.

Kim had to do a bit of work so she did that and then she watched another film she wanted to watch.

We watched a bit of TV together after and then headed to bed.

Curtis is starting an hour later tomorrow and finishing an hour later too, as it is Black Friday so he needs to be able to support for a longer time, and some of his team are working from 06:00.

Place 72 – Day 450: Vancouver, BC – First Time Heating

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a pretty quiet day. He got quite a few tickets done and answered questions from people.

During the day, we got a bit too cold so we turned the heating on, only for it not to do anything! We were stumped so we thought that it was broken, but it turns out that the electric breaker was flipped off for heat, so we flipped that back on and we had heat!

A lot of the afternoon for Curtis was dealing with a potential security risk.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent the morning on odd jobs and small tasks. She reached out to a few people to get some information, started to set up one of the new softwares and updated some to do lists.

At midday Kim hosted a game of Skribbl and a few people joined in! There were 5 other people and someones son. There were three round that went on for 30 minutes and it was so nice to have people join, laugh and have fun. They enjoyed it so much they even hinted at making a tournament from another game Kim suggested. After the call Kim started making a score sheet for a connect four tournament. It will be so much fun!

For the rest of the afternoon Kim worked on her facilities project. It was a lot of research, saving information and collecting data on a spreadsheet so it’s easily comparable. From today Kim has a better understanding of what she is looking for and how everything works, so thats a big success.

Evening

We went and got some food from Noodlebox up the street. Curtis got a Pad Thai and Kim got Chinese fried rice.

We ate that and watched some TV and played some Need For Speed.

Kim went out to get an ice cream and some Red Bull for tomorrow morning, as we have an English test for our PR application fairly early, so we need to be up at a good time for that.

Energy will be required.

We woke up around 11:00 and had some breakfast.

Kim had some cheese toasties and Curtis had fried eggs on toast.

We watched a bit of TV and then got ready for the day.

Kim met up with two friends today! It was great! She went and met her friend at a coffee shop and then they went for a nice, distanced, walk and then sat on a bench and caught up!

After this she met another friend for Blizzards and then went to a different park, sat on a bench and had a catch up. It was so lovely to see them!

Kim got back home and did some extra work on her CV and chatted about her day with Curtis.

After this, we had some frozen pizza for dinner and watched some TV for the evening.

We woke up and spoke with Curtis’ family for an hour or so, which was a really nice catch up.

We had breakfast after this, which was similar to yesterday’s.

We did pretty much nothing for the rest of the day. Played some games, watched some TV shows.

We had some leftovers for dinner from yesterday’s delicious fried rice and then we went down to Dairy Queen to get a blizzard ice cream!

We got back and watched some TV, then Kim had a bath and relaxed.

We finished the evening with a hot chocolate and then headed to bed, ready to go back to doing work again.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis and a meeting at 09:30 which was to show someone around some software and see if he can help them with any questions they had.

After that, Curtis had his weekly team meeting which lasted for about an hour and then after that, the day got crazy!

Curtis did constant ticket work until lunch time, and then after that he had a meeting with his team to talk about some survey responses and statistics.

After that, Curtis had a bunch more work to do and had to reach out to some people, as well as ensure he didn’t have any work left for during his vacation for the rest of the week.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by working on some emails she plans to send out when she gets back from her leave for the rest of this week. In the morning she also set up an ad hoc visit for someone to work from the office, a return for a laptop and sent out a gift card.

In the afternoon Kim set up a couple of hot desks, just in case someone wants to come in while she is away. Then its all set up and someone else doesn’t have to do it! Then for the rest of the afternoon Kim sorted her expenses.

Evening

Kim got back home as Curtis was just finishing off our baked potatoes for dinner.

We ate those and watched some TV and then we went down to 7-Eleven and Kim got an ice cream there.

We got home and Curtis ate the remaining ice cream we had at home and Kim ate her ice cream.

We did some packing to be ready to leave tomorrow and we got a few things sorted throughout the evening, such as vacuuming and ensuring all the dishes were done etc.

We aren’t up too early tomorrow and we have a few things to get done then we’re off for a brief drive!
