Place 72 – Day 192: Vancouver, BC – Beginning Exciting Training

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a pretty busy start to the day, which was a change from the last few days.

Curtis had a demo for some software at 12:30 but during that he had to deal with a bunch of questions and investigation with regards to some possible spam emails.

In the afternoon, it was a little quieter. Curtis got some ticket based work done, setup a laptop and the did a little bit of reading and training for an exam he is hoping to take.

Curtis had a beer with his colleague at the end of the day, because why not!

Kim’s Day

Again, Kim spent most of her day preparing for the holiday party.

Kim started with looking into a floor plan and seeing how the tables and other furniture would fit into the space, this then opened up into a meeting with her two teammates and they made some good decisions about most of the things.

Kim then ordered the pizza for the Vancouver office for tomorrows social talks.

After a while of other administrative work Kim went out on a different person from the company for the pair up meet ups. They went to a wonderful Japanese restaurant and had a wonderful time.

When Kim got back she went through all the RSVPs and got to a final amount of attendees! She the sent out emails to most of her vendors for the holiday party to finalise something’s and for more information on others.

Kim then decided to go through her expenses and matched up all the easy transactions, allowing Kim to just find the more complicated ones tomorrow.

Kim then updated the notes for the holiday party and really filled out the timeline for the evening with vendor arrival, key points and food change times. It was really successful.

As Kim left work late she had to walk quickly home to get changed and head straight to pole.

Back on Track

Curtis watched the Maple Leafs get back on track tonight, with A new coach and getting a win.

Kim’s pole class was amazing. Kim was feeling stronger and less tired than last week and the class covered the 2 moves Kim asked to be covered!

It was brilliant, she had wanted to.learn these loves for a while and even tried to self teach them a few weeks ago, but there were funny little tricks and important parts she would have missed. It was a great lesson and Kim loved it.

After Kim got back, we shopped online for a new purse and handbag for her as there was a sale on online.

We finished that up, watched some TV and then went to bed.

Curtis has a hockey game tomorrow night, which he is excited for!

Place 72 – Day 190: Vancouver, BC – A Slow One

Curtis’ Day

The day was very slow for Curtis today.

He didn’t really have anything planned for the day, but had 2 meetings back to back at the start of the day.

The day ended up being steady as tickets came in, but no project work for him at all.

Curtis fought with a laptop in the afternoon, which would do as he wanted it to, for some reason. He also helped a couple of people with their questions.

Weirdly, the day was slow work-wise, but fast time-wise!

Kim’s Day

Kim collected more RSVPs for the winter party and continued adding notes to her to do list.

She then went to get something from the stationary cupboard and couldn’t find it so she dragged everything out and reorganised it. She recently found 2 plastic baskets in her apartment buildings swap table and knew they would be perfect for the stationary cupboard and they were perfect too!

Kim then took am earlier lunch as she had a meeting in the early afternoon. Just after lunch Kim got caught on the phone with a potential vendor. They organised for Kim to arrange a lunch for her and the administrative team so Kim will look into setting that up for next week.

In the meeting with her colleague Kim went through the relatively long list of questions she stored up over the last week. Kim will bow be hanging up a whiteboard, responding to a rental company and she also got a lot of guidance on the Holiday party among many other things.

Kim went from this meeting straight into her bi-weekly 121 with her manager. They had a great catch up and Kim got a lot of guidance on how to love forward on a few things too!
After the meetings, Kim had a few items to action for the Holiday party and other communications that need to go out so she worked her way through these.

Free running!

Curtis watched the Leafs game which started at 19:00, so a couple of hours after the usual time, so he could watch the whole thing.

Kim went to free running to check the place out and then went to off to pole training.

Kim’s training tonight was far more successful than last week! She managed a fair few handstand related moves and even started to feel more confident with a differnt variety of climb which is wonderful!

We managed to watch one bit of TV before sleeping!

Place 72 – Day 187: Vancouver, BC – Housewarming

Early Training

Kim got up early(ish) to head out to pole training.

She enjoyed the session, but it was a little early!

She headed back and when she got back, we planned to go out for breakfast.

Out For Breakfast…Or Not!

We walked up to a place we had been before, called Yolk, but when we got there, it was a 1 hour wait, so we changed our mind and walked home, with a stop at Starbucks so Curtis could try a gingerbread latte (which he liked!) And at the supermarket.

We got home and made some scrambled eggs with ham and cheese and some toast.

Leafs & Winners Shopping

Curtis watched the leafs game and whilst doing this, Kim went up to Winners to find a few things she needed for our kitchen and apartment.

Hockey

Curtis had another hockey game today, at 20:30!

We left at 19:15 to get there at a good time.

Curtis’ hockey game was awful and they lost 4-0!

Housewarming

We were invited to a housewarming party out in New Westminster, but couldn’t go for 19:00 as we had Curtis’ hockey game, so we went after!

We were there from 22:00 something and had a good time. This was for someone that Kim met through pole dancing. It was a nice house, too!

Place 72 – Day 186: Vancouver, BC – Workplace Baby Shower

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a few meetings today.

He had his daily meeting, followed by doing a little bit of admin and work, but then right back into another meeting.

This meeting was very interesting, though, and it was planning for the team’s financial forecast, so it was cool for Curtis to see what went on there.

After that meeting, Curtis got some ticket work done and was then meant to have another meeting, this time an external meeting with a cloud software company.

The representative didn’t show up, so Curtis didn’t have that meeting, but did eventually get his questions answered via email.

For lunch, Curtis and a couple of colleagues went to a place called Hot Star Chicken. This is a Taiwanese street food place where you get a big slab of fried chicken in a paper bag.

Curtis had a BBQ one and Kim had a Korean flavoured chicken.

Kim went back to work and so did Curtis. He put the remainder of the chicken on a plate and ate it that way when he got back to the office and it was much easier to eat.

After lunch, Curtis spent an hour doing some ticket and project work, both were successful, and then he had an hour long meeting with someone from legal.

After that, it was beer and hockey time! Curtis grabbed a beer and watched the first period of the leafs game, before walking home.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim finally saved all of her outstanding travel invoices! She had a full half a months worth and spent most of the morning sorting through those.

She then went and met Curtis and a couple of his work friends for lunch, but on the way back to work stopped to pick up some chocolate bars for the baby shower.

When she got back to the office Kim put all of the regular things in the fridge for the end of week drinks.

She then got on with some administration tasks before starting the fun stuff of baby shower preparations.

Kim printed off the answer sheets for the nappy game, melted the chocolates into the nappies, sorted the snacks and made the mocktails. The mocktails on the menu today were:

  • Mumgo Colada
  • Gran-berry ‘Cider’
  • Up at the Crack of Sunrise

Kim was very pleased with the mockt

ails and names she picked for them. Kim also arranged for rum to go with the mango colada style drink for those that were drinking alcohol.
Once all the games were set up the team allocated 15 minutes to sit, enjoy and catch up together before inviting the rest of the office to join in.

They drank mocktails, played ‘mark the soother on the baby’ and ate cookies.

A few other people joined while the team were guessing what was in the nappies. Then, suddenly, another department joined in with a fondue set!

As it was someone’s birthday the day before they celebrated with fondue, this was a welcomed addition.

Kim decided to pick a winner for the nappy guessing game so ran around the office to see if anyone else wanted to try first, a few more people had a go and then Kim went through the correct answers. It was so much fun and it was great to see everyone relax and enjoy each other company!

Most people left around the same sort of time, so the few who were around at the end cleared up with Kim. She then realised that she had not yet place a weekly shop order for next week, so she put one of those through and then went home.

It was a brilliant evening and a really nice way to celebrate the excitement of a new little baby on its way!

Silly Videos

Once hockey was finished, we each had some food (Curtis had the last of the roast and Kim had the remainder of her chicken from lunch) and sat and watched silly videos.

Before we knew it, it had been a few hours!

It was fun to just sit and watch stupid stuff for a while, though.

Tomorrow’s Saturday, but a busy one!

Place 72 – Day 184: Vancouver, BC – Back to Pole Training

Curtis’ Day

Curtis actually got to work at the perfect time, but then emptied the dishwasher which took him perfectly to his daily meeting.

After the meeting, Curtis spent all morning doing ticket work and it was perfectly busy!

At 12:00, there was a demo for some antivirus software which was very interesting, so he really enjoyed that.

After lunch, Curtis had to figure out who owned a software as someone was leaving and someone new had to take it over. Once he figured that out, he started the setup for that.

Once he got that done, he had time to look over a few different helpdesk software and compare them to see which is the best and which his company should start using.

Curtis walked home and watched the leafs game.

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she decided to start getting into the habit of having something to eat before starting to work. She grabbed her cereal and sat down, just after it dawned on her that she has a visitor coming in for someone at 9 so she hid her cereal ans waited to greet the guest. Once the guest was in Kim pipped back to the kitchen to have her cereal.

Kim then spent a while trying to get hold of someone who would be able to send across the missing receipt from a hotel. In total it took over an hour, many calls to different numbers! It was a whole kerfuffle!

She then went into a meeting to have a chat about the upcoming winter party. Kim and her colleagues agreed on decorations and a plan for cracking on with the to do list.

After the meeting Kim sent out a few emails asking a vendor for some information and updated the spreadsheets with new RSVPs.

Just before lunch Kim went out with a friend so that she could grab her colleague a birthday cake and so Kim could grab nappies for a baby shower themed Friday afternoon drinks. Kim will also be making mocktails!

Kim spent some time ordering pizzas and creating templates for possible Congratulations cards for winter party prizes.

Then Kim went into another meeting with one of the ladies from earlier to discuss plans for the social side of the quarterly new hire meetings. They discussed possible dates and games that could work.

Kim then worked through more party stuff by emailing the venue for some info and finally making an RSVP list for the people in the UK office.

Back to Pole

Curtis finished watching hockey and then went up to the shop to get some ham for lunches.

Once Curtis got back, Kim left to go to pole training for the first time since her competition.

Kim loved going back to class today as she learned a crunch spin, which will be great on other combos and a shoulder dismount, which hurt but again is very useful!

Kim went for a swim and to the gym when she got back home. After that, we watched some TV and then went off to bed.

Place 72 – Day 183: Vancouver, BC – Hot Chocolate Station & A Big Win!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and had his daily meeting.

Post-meeting, Curtis did a lot of ticket work, mostly on new tickets that were arriving after the long weekend.

At 11:30 he had a demo of some software with his team, which they got a small Q&A for too.

After that, Curtis jumped right into showing his team what to do with some software, with relation to a project.

Curtis’ afternoon involved helping someone with some OneDrive issues via a screen share and then he used the quiet afternoon to wipe and setup two old laptops.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by calling a hotel who they are missing a receipt from.

It took 4 calls and a lengthy conversation to track down the transaction in question and then the hotel never even emailed it across meaning Kim has to do it all again tomorrow!

Just as Kim was about to walk into her weekly catch up with her teammate where they had a good catch up on everything winter parties, first aid and all the other other small things that get pushed to one side.

Kim then spent the rest of the morning sorting through RSVPs for one of the other offices and reminding other offices to respond too.

Just before lunch Kim made a hot chocolate station as the cream was due to go past its sell by date at the end of the day. So she steamed up some cream and put out cinnamon, hot chocolate powder and vanilla flavour for people to help themselves!

Kim then sat down to a quick lunch before heading into the monthly health and safety meeting.

In this meeting they watched some instructional videos on their specific AED that they have. They also handed out action items for everyone to do. Its one thing Kim is trying to work on, hand work out and not hold it all!

Kim then went through the responses from the Vancouver winter party and drew up a spreadsheet for this office too.

Big Win!

Curtis had a hockey game at a really good time of 20:30.

They got there and it was Curtis’ team’s first time wearing their dark jerseys, which look amazing!

The game went really well, especially for Curtis. He got two assists, one was a really lovely saucer pass and the other was after whacking away at the puck and a teammate came in and finished it.

Curtis also got a boarding penalty, which he didn’t mean to do!

His team won 4-1, again the leading team and it was a really great feeling game!

We got back home, cleaned a few things we neglected earlier today, made some lunch for tomorrow and that was that, bed time. Which we are looking forward to as we are very tired after a lack of sleep last night!

Place 72 – Day 172: Vancouver, BC – Surprise Performance!

The Morning

We slept in a bit which was really nice.

We then had some breakfast, just simply a bagel/cereal nothing fancy.

We watched videos and then Kim went out to the shops to buy a few pieces of clothing she needed for her performance she is doing.

Once she did that, she got back home and then went out to Richmond to bartend/perform!

Kim’s Bartending & Performance

Kim spent her evening bar tending at the pole show this evening.

The studios where Kim practices have a quarterly show and this one was Halloween themed so kim chucked together a last minute pirate costume and was ready to help.

She also found out that there would be some space in the shows runnings so Kim out herself forward for a time slot to use as a dress rehearsal for her upcoming competition!

Her routine went down so well and she loved every second of it. She got a few tips and bits of constructive criticism after from a few friends which was great.

Just things like acknowledge the audience, which Kim hasn’t planned to do and point toes on a couple of moves. Other than that it went brilliantly!

The rest of the evening Kim watched all of the performances and served drinks, it was a great night!

After this, she drove to the rink to watch Curtis’ game.

Hockey

Curtis really just played call of duty whilst Kim was out, he is still enjoying the game which is good!

Curtis also watched the leafs game.

As Kim had the car, Curtis got a lift up to the rink by a teammate, which was very kind and helpful.

Curtis’ hockey game was a close one, just a 2-1 loss. It was a chippy game, with Curtis getting a penalty after he returned a slash to someone that slashed him.

There was a bit of rough stuff at the end of the game too, but it’s all fun!
