Place 70 – Day 36: Victoria, BC – Afternoon Tea & Goodbyes!

Packing Up

We got ourselves ready in the morning, had some breakfast, and got packed up and ready to go.

We changed the bed sheets and tidied up, as well as packed all of our stuff away.

Afternoon Tea

We took Linda for afternoon tea at 11:45.

The place seemed alright, but everything was just okay, which was pretty disappointing.

We headed back to Linda’s and hung out with her for a bit more before we had to leave and say goodbye until next time!

Leaving Victoria

We drove up to get our car cleaned at the car wash that we had bought a ticket for before but didn’t get to use on Wednesday.

We were waiting and a woman managed to make her car battery die right at the entrance to the car wash, so it took quite a while to actually get our car washed, so it was good that we left at such a good time!

We left the car wash after it was done and went to the supermarket and picked up a salad to eat on the boat.

We got onto the boat and got a pretty good spot! Masks are now mandatory again indoors, which includes the ferry, which is great!

We ate our salad and then we just relaxed. We were told there were whales, but we didn’t see them when we looked!

We got back to Vancouver and drove home, which took less time than expected.

We got back home and just did very little. Kim had a nice bath with bath salts she bought at her massage and we just relaxed.

Back to work tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 169: Vancouver, BC – Goodbye Lunch & No Traction!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a day full of meetings!

The first meeting was his usual daily catch up, followed by a meeting to discuss and learn about a new software the company is trialling. This helped him get some clarity on how it works and what to look out for.

Shortly after that meeting, Curtis had a 1:1 with his new manager. His colleague got promoted to be his manager now, so that’s great! Curtis got to chat about some things he’d like to see and other things.

Curtis then went out for lunch to say goodbye to someone leaving the company.

This person has been at the company for a while and tomorrow is their final day.

Curtis had a blackened chicken burger with fries. It was a lot but it was good!

Curtis got back to the office and had another 1:1, this time with someone else.

After that, Curtis had some ticket work to do and then he looked into ordering some new Macbooks for the office as some more are, or will be, needed.

Curtis left after what felt like a day of just meetings, and met Kim on the way home.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent her day doing two things, orgnaising catering and listening to voicemails.

When she got in she helped set up the breakfast catering and then went over some emails.

During the morning we moved things to the top floor so that the meeting could move up there towards midday. The meeting was meant to be in there for the while day but the elevator to get up there was broken. As they weren’t sure when it would be fixed they decided to keep the meeting on the companys floor so had to go back up to collect everything.

They then set up all of the lunch catering and while they waited for the group to come out and eat kim checked her voicemail. She had messages from back in mid December! So she would intermittently listen to it between people asking for things.
After their lunch Kim helped clear it up and then continuted listening to the messages. Towards the end of the day Kim sent out a FedEx.

No Traction

Kim popped out to the doctors to get a check up for the other recent doctors appointments.

Everything is fine and Kim is all healthy.

On the way home Kim saw cars going around a car with their 4 way lights on. Kim drove down the road and parked before running back up to the car.
It turns out that the lady driving wasn’t able to get traction up a hill. Kim stopped the people coming up the hill and directed the lady about 2 meters back to flatter road where she was able to get traction and head on up the hill.

People need their winter tyres here! Its rains a lot and the roads are steep!

Kim was going to go out to some shops and get stuff done after, but really couldn’t be bothered!

We did some cleaning, had some leftovers for dinner and just watched some TV, binging some shows.

Place 82 – Day 1: Miami,FL🇺🇸 – Cancelled Bus

Check Out

We got up at 08:30, packed the remaining items, showered, had breakfast and left the house around 11:00, after a game of Monopoly Deal.

Nice Houses

We had some time to kill, so we drove down through the really nice, huge, houses.

After we looked at all the houses, we drove to an ice cream place, got ice cream and then went to Starbucks for a coffee.

We had to leave shortly after, though, as our bus was due at the bus stop (which was a gas station).

Cancelled Bus

We got to the bus stop and then checked on the bus which said it was delayed by an hour, but the image on the app said it hadn’t left the first stop yet.

We called to ask, whilst we sat and had a doughnut in Dunkin’ and they weren’t much help.

We went back to the gas station and there was an attendant inside and she said she thinks it is cancelled but will check.

Eventually, she confirmed this and said we can board the 15:50 bus instead, for free. We looked into car rental but it was far too expensive so we booked onto that bus instead.

We said goodbye to Kim’s family as they had to catch a flight back to England. It was an emotional time for Kim, too.

We waited for an hour or so until the bus arrived and were happy to get on it.

Bus Ride To Miami

We had a 5 hour ride, which was less than our previous bus was going to be anyway, so that’s good.

We had an uneventful journey with only a few scheduled stops. We even skipped a few at the end so we got in a little early.

Nice Apartment

We got an Uber to downtown Miami, where our apartment is.

We are on the 42nd floor, with amazing views of Miami and the water!

Dinner

We wanted some food and were recommended to go to the bayside marketplace which has a few well priced chains in there.

We decided on Five Guys as it was easy and we fancied a burger.

Curtis chose to have a cheeseburger with lettuce, mayo, steak sauce, grilled onions & pickles, but he got mushrooms instead of onions, for some reason.

Kim got a small cheeseburger with lettuce, steak sauce, grilled onions and mushrooms.

We got a side of small fries and shared a chocolate milkshake.

The food was pretty nice, though as said before they did get the order wrong. The milkshake was incredible though!

Auckland

Place 49 – Day 379: Auckland – Biometrics & Back in The Hostel Life

Waking at 05:45, we all hopped in the car with Kim’s family’s bags and drove to the airport. There was no traffic, but we did need to stop for some fuel on the way.

We got to the airport and it was pretty busy! We walked all the way to the correct check in location and left Tom & Maggie there. It was pretty emotional for Kim!

We deove back and we were very tired. We had a late checkout from the hotel, so we didn’t have to leave until 12:00.

We slept when we got back until around 09:45. Curtis then had a coffee and we got packed and did a bit of admin.

We eventually checked out at 12:00 and moved all of our baggage to the car. We walked to a coffee shop in the centre of town, got a ham and cheese croissant each and a coffee for breakfast.

We left the coffee shop and Kim did a bit of shopping around the city centre. Once Kim had finished, we walked up to the Visa Application Centre for Curtis to get his biometrics for his visa completed. We turned up 15 minutes early but were seen anyway and had it completed just after the original planned time, which was a result.

Once we finished there, we went to get Curtis’ hair cut. We went to his usual place and were told it would be 20 minutes. We waited for 45 and were then told it’s another 30 minutes and the were 2 people ahead. We didn’t want to wait any longer so we left and went back to the hotel.

We picked up the car and drove to our next accommodation.

We are officially back in hostel life! At least for the moment. We got to the place and no-one was there to check us in. We called and they said we cannot check in until 16:00. We spoke with them and asked which room we are in and we were allowed in. We went to the room and it was disgusting with bugs everywhere and also a lot of mould, so we asked to move to another room we had seen which looks nicer.

Once we were in the new room, we waited to get our key at 16:00 and then had fun with them regarding payment…we went to the shop to get some drinks as we were very thirsty!

Once we got back, we moved all of our bags in and Curtis started to feel a bit unwell so we relaxed for a bit until he felt better.

We went out for a late dinner at a cheap Italian place which was OK but nothing special.

What was special was the sky after our dinner during our walk around!

We got back and did more admin as well as catch up on some TV.

It’s weird, and certainly not as nice, to be in a hostel again, even if it is a private room (shared bathroom)!

Place 49 – Day 371: Auckland – Goodbye Dinner & Gavin And Stacey

Waking up at 10:00, we had some cereal and got distracted by videos and streams until around 13:00.

We eventually left the house and did the shop for all of our christmas dinner food as well as grab a coffee.

We got home and did nothing, even having a nap!

We drove up to Brown’s Bay in the evening with Nicola. We were going for a goodbye meal at a highly rated Indian place up there.

We got the place and it looked really nice. We got our table and discussed the food options. We went with popadoms, dips, samosas & onion bhaji for starters…but that was a bit too much! Our mains came out and looked delicious but were huge! We also got naan breads with them, which didn’t help the amount of food!

We ate as much as we could and then decided we were defeated. The curries were tasty though. Curtis gives it a 7/10 and Kim gives it 8/10.

We went for a beach walk after, to burn off all the food and then walked back to the car to drive home.

We wanted to show Nicola Gavin& Stacey, so we watched 3 episodes of that which was still hilarious!

It was a successful, relaxing day, which was great.
