Place 72 – Day 906: Vancouver, BC – Gift Basket!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had no meetings today, which was a nice break!

Curtis used the time mostly for tickets but he did get some admin done and some project work, as well. It was a little strange to have no meetings, but having the time was excellent.

Nothing super fancy to report for his day today, but a productive one!

Curtis got a gift basket from his work today as a thank you for hard work, which was very nice! Lots of fancy snacks in there for us to devour.

Kim’s Day

Kim joined an interview after taking some tim to do some research in the morning. She then joined and gave an update in the company meeting before settling down to get some admin done.

She then had a quick success of a few smaller meetings, a couple of check ins and she provided an update to another department.

In the afternoon her first meeting was cancelled so Kim did a few smaller things before she joined a training session about benefits. Kim then had a quick call with her teammate to go over a few things before she had a long call with another teammate to get their opinion and work on a few things with them. To finish the day Kim had another pipeline review of candidates for a role.

3 Bean Chicken Chilli

Throughout the day, Kim got a 3 bean chicken chilli made, which simmered away for hours and was incredibly delicious!

Curtis ran to the shop after work to get a few things for it, but most of it Kim just did during the day.

We ate this in wraps tonight, but we have plenty to put in the freezer now!

We watched TV and relaxed and we had some more admin to do, so we did that too.

Place 72 – Day 470: Vancouver, BC – Company Holiday Gift!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis woke up around 09:30 and had some breakfast, a shower and a coffee.

Once Curtis was done with his coffee, he walked down to the nearest post office as he had been told he had a package waiting for him that his company had sent him!

Curtis had to wait in the queue for a bit, but he got the package and headed back home.

The package was a holiday gift from his company, which he forgot they were sending! Each person got one of these and they contain a variety of snacks (mostly dark chocolate, which Curtis LOVES) and then he also got some socks in there, as well.

Curtis played games whilst Kim worked in the afternoon.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day in the office and she was happy to see that the most of the fruit flies were now gone. She finished the laptop set up and then had a meeting about the interview she was in yesterday and the next steps for that process. After that she called a company that she ordered a laptop from to see where it was, she got through to voicemail so left a message an emailed the company too.

There are a few new hires over the next couple of weeks so Kim went to pick up a laptop from her colleague, but it wasn’t ready yet. So Kim drove home and shortly after joined a recruitment meeting to go over all the top candidates for open positions. It was an interesting meeting and some candidates that Kim liked for a new position are moving forward and will be interviewing with Kim next week.

Kim then hosted the weekly social call, for a while only her teammate was on the call so that had a great catch up. Then one other person joined so the three of them played a game of among us with another colleagues kid and it was so fun! They were only small and quick games, but really enjoyable!

Shortly after that Kim joined the team meeting and they went over some plans for the next few weeks. Then Kim went and picked up the laptop from her teammate, set it up in record time and managed to get it to fedex before the cut off time. Well, actually she was way past the cut off time, but they were running late!

When she got back Kim had a call with the external person about the facilities project. They talked about how the meeting yesterday went and what the possible next steps are. Then to finish the day Kim wrote up a chart about the difference in contractors that the company has to give some structure to the HR system and finance. She sent it off to her teammate and manager for their review.

Evening

We spent some time together writing up an email to send to our local MP. We are doing this to see if they can assist with our work permit situation, which is ongoing.

Once we did that, we went out to get an onion and have a bit of a walk!

Kim made a vegetable bolognese for dinner which was terrific! We had the final episode of Alex Rider to watch, so we watched that and also played some games/watched other shows.

We both have the day off tomorrow, so we plan to hang out and relax!

Curtis got the confirmation today that ice hockey is currently suspended by the province due to COVID-19, but there is a hope it will return at some point.

Place 72 – Day 135: Vancouver, BC – Galaxy Watch!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day was filled with project work and meetings. He had a brief moment where there was no meeting, but he then had to join one!

Curtis got a lot of more of his project work sorted as well as some tickets.

During the day, Curtis received the gift he bought for himself.. a Galaxy Watch!

Curtis has been having a great time playing with the watch and loves the look of it!

Curtis walked home (in the rain) and when he got home, he spent far too long playing on his new watch!

Kim’s Day

Kim did have catering to be in early for this morning so she got to work for 8 and the catering was already there! So she got to work setting the other drinks up and collecting the last few snacks.

As she had ordered a cake for her office for this week she also had to order a cake for one of the other offices so Kim spent some of the morning organising that and finalising a few peoples travel plans.

When the catering arrived for lunch Kim got more drinks ready and plated up a nice selection of veggies to go with it all. Once it was all set up Kim popped out to post some letters and exchange one of the things Kim bought for Curtis yesterday.

When she got back, she cleared away the lunch stuff, refreshed some drunks and the coffee and then sat down for some lunch.

After lunch Kim spent most of her afternoon going through invoices that she had not saved since the 3rd of September. On the 4th, she received 14 in a matter of hours so it all went out of the window and she is now just finding the time to claw back at it all. Kim also put some fruit, snacks and more drinks into the meeting room around mid afternoon.

Later in the afternoon, Kim was saving an invoice and noticed that well over half had vanished. Kim then spent some time looking into what might have caused this before asking IT for help. They were eventually able to figure out that they had been deleted, which was great news because that means that they are recoverable and not corrupted and broken files.

As this all happened Kim called the group in the meeting some taxis and waved them on their way. She then took the time to clear up the meeting room!

Tonight’s self training class was amazing. Kim picked up 3 or so moves from.when she trained 2.5 years ago. She is really starting to feel things click into place and come more naturally. Kim has also finally picked a song for the competition in November, so she started some basic dance to that in preparations.

MaCallan

Kim bought Curtis some MaCallan whiskey as he’s been wanting to try it!

We sat and watched TV together for a bit and then Kim went off to exercise.

Kim had a great time and then when she came home, we caught up on our TV shows and had a whiskey!
