Place 72 – Day 894: Vancouver, BC – Surprise Flowers

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started the day with a meeting with the CEO. He needed to help him with changing his password, so he did just that.

That was fairly quick and once he got that done, he took another stab at trying to get a computer working as it should, which he’s been working at for a couple of weeks now. There wasn’t much luck there, unfortunately.

Curtis went out to get some surprise flowers for Kim, just because, why not? He surprised her with them when she came home from her massage.

After that, he had some project work to do, which was comparing some lists and making a new list to provide to someone with some proposed changes. He didn’t finish that before lunch, so after lunch he finished that and sent it off. He had some more changes to make to that after lunch and then it was done and the project is ready to move to the next stage.

He had a 1 on 1 and then the rest of the afternoon was ticket work.

Curtis watched hockey in the evening.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a lazier morning today where she made a couple of calls and then went out for a massage. She decided that during her rest week that she would treat herself to a massage and it was so nice!

On her way home Kim picked up coffees for herself and Curtis. When she got home she was greeted with a beautiful bunch of flowers from Curtis! She has been a little up and down lately so this was such a wonderful surprise that brightened her week even more!

After lunch Kim then hosted a games afternoon with some of her work colleagues. It was so much fun!

After the games Kim popped to a shop to return something and also pick up a vase for her beautiful flowers to live I !

Evening

After hockey was done and Kim’s games night was done, we had some easy dinner and watched TV for the evening.

Place 72 – Day 179: Vancouver, BC – Birthday Flower Surprise!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day was largely uneventful and slow.

When he got in, he had a call with a few people from his team regarding a problem and how they are thinking of rectifying it.

Once that was sorted, Curtis did some ticket work, a little bit of project work and then he had a long, 1.25 hour meeting.

Just before the meeting, pizza arrived for the whole office. There was 22 boxes! This helped feed Curtis during his meeting, which was a bonus.

After that, Curtis technically didn’t have any lunch break, but he got right back to work.

Curtis setup a laptop and had a few more ticket requests to get done and then he went and had a drink with others in the office.

When Curtis left work, he had to go and pickup some chocolates that the florist didn’t deliver to Kim for her birthday!

Kim’s Day

When Kim arrived she had a chat with someone she planned a lunch with! Kim has been assigned a new person to have a coffee date with and Kim organised it for Friday forgetting it was her birthday. Instead of it being for a coffee date, it turned into a lunch for Kim’s birthday! Kim invited her whole team and a few others from around the office. That was a great way to start the day!

Kim then ran across to the supermarket with a colleague and grabbed a chocolate croissant for breakfast and tried to get a free coffee from Starbucks for her birthday but that location didn’t accept it!

Kim spent a fair amount of her morning sorting things for the winter party as it is only 4 weeks away! She made a to do list out of her notes, a guide of a timeline of the activities in the evening, sent out an email to a vendor and made a shared folder so other people can see this and add to it.

Kim and the other 8 women went to lunch!

They picked an amazing Thai place just down the road. It was a great meal, Kim had duck in a pa-naeng sauce with coconut rice and it was delicious!

When they got back to the office Kim was greeted by an ENORMOUS bouquet of flowers!

They were about 3x the size of Kim’s head and they were the final present from Curtis. It made Kim well up and she was so thankful!

After everyone ooo’d and aaa’d over the cute note from Curtis, Kim was sat typing away when a few of the girls who came for lunch and another guy from the office came over and started singing happy birthday but they also had a cake for Kim!

Unsurprisingly, this also made Kim well up, so they went to the kitchen and had cake!

After the cake Kim had a quick meeting with her manager to go over a few questions Kim had about the social committee.

After this meeting Kim continued working for all of 5 minutes before a small army walked over with ANOTHER cake all singing happy birthday! So they all had a chat and some cake.

Kim decided to do a little work after all the cake and arranged for some business cards to be sent out via FedEx. She also took 5 minutes to have a quick chat with her parents!

As she was setting up for the weekly drinks she realised that she didnt have one crate of the usual beers so she ran out to get that, luckily before she left she went to take her ID and realised that she left it with Curtis, so she took another person from the office to go in for her.

Kim then sat down and enjoyed a glass of wine while finished her slices of cake from her multiple birthday cakes and chatted with people until Curtis arrived to help carry the flowers and stuff home!

What a brilliant birthday!

Nothing Evening

We got home, relaxed and watched some TV.

Kim showered and whilst she did that, Curtis played some games.

After that, we sat and watched a bunch of funny YouTube videos and then watched the latest NCIS:LA.

This weekend is a busy one, but should be super fun!

Place 72 – Day 9: Vancouver, BC – Our New Home City!

As some of you may be aware, we have chosen Vancouver to be our next home, for a year or so.

Beacon Drive-In, Again

We went for breakfast at the Beacon Drive-In again today.

We opted for something different and both went for 2 eggs, sausages and hash browns. It wasn’t as good as what we each usually order, so that was a bit of a shame.

Flowers

We left the drive in and walked into the city to get some flowers for Linda, both as a thank you for having us and also for mother’s day (which it is here in Canada). She really liked them too, which is great.

Packing

Kim spent a while doing some ninja packing today. As we had to pack 5 bags, it meant unpacking everything and re-packing, but better.

Kim got it all packed up perfectly and we were able to comfortably fit everything in our bags.

Whilst Kim packed, Curtis watched Great Britain get demolished 8-0 by Canada in ice hockey, which really could’ve been much worse!

Walk, Chocolate Poutine & Coffee

We went for a walk after we were sat inside for most of the day, just to get some fresh air. We got a bit peckish, so we went to a chocolate place we had been before, Chocolats Favoris and we got chocolate poutine to share (fried doughnut style sticks covered in chocolate, marshmallows and ice cream).

We ate this and then went to Starbucks to get a coffee. We wanted to sit inside but it was full so we say outside for a brief moment but it was too cold so we walked back to Linda’s.

Chatting

We chatted with Linda for a few more hours up until we had to leave.

Once we had to head down to the bus station, we packed the last few things, said goodbye to Linda and walked down to the bus station, looking like pack mules!

Bus > Ferry > Bus > Taxi

We got the bus which took us onti the ferry.

When we got on the ferry we were hungry, so we queued to grab some food.

Kim decided on chicken strips and a ceasar salad and Curtis had a chicken pot pie with sweet potato fries.

We eventually left the ferry and got back onto the bus.

The bus company said that if we get off st the bus station, it is the first stop and we can catch the train to where we need to go from there.

We were informed wrong…

We were actually the last stop and didn’t get into the bus station until 22:10, which is much later than we expected.

The people we are staying with were waiting up for us, so to save time, we got a taxi to them.

Our Temporary Place

We were lucky enough to be contacted by a couple which offered us to rent a room of theirs whilst we look for apartments here in Vancouver. We aren’t looking to share long term, so are looking for our own apartment and preferably in the downtown area, which is exciting!

These next few days are jam packed full of apartment viewings and job phone interviews, so it’ll be a busy few days!

It’s been a long day and we’re glad to be getting some sleep.
