Place 72 – Day 234: Vancouver, BC – Back To Pole?!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got right to work after our walk and breakfast.

Curtis had a meeting at 09:30, but this was just with a team member regarding a project.

After that meeting, Curtis had his team meeting, followed by completing some tickets.

After that, he had another project meeting which was very useful.

He had a catch up with the Project Manager for the project and then had lunch.

After lunch, Curtis had a 1:1 and then did some tickets and some training for the rest of the afternoon.

Kim’s Day

After the company meeting Kim joined a meeting with her hack team to discuss the plan. It looks as though they have decided on a plan, Kim is on presentation so she has taken on the PowerPoint. Kim is not entirely sure what is going on but she will help as much as she can!

Kim then did a little scheduling and other smaller tasks for the rest of the morning.
After lunch Kim updated the cribbage scores and held an open game of Skribbl for people to join. She is trailing having games for people to drop in and out of once a week, next week she is thinking Taboo! Kim loves the fact that she is able to put events on virtually and give people a place to hang out and switch off for a bit.

For most of the rest of the afternoon Kim worked on the Easter quiz. Towards the end of the day Kim had an idea for the first slide of the PowerPoint, so she put it together!

Back To Pole

In the evening, Kim went out to pole!

Kim decided to rent the pole studio this evening, and it was a great decision. She walked up, avoiding the busier streets and was let into the studio. Kim only rented it for an hour, but it was amazing to just play and enjoy dancing and listening to the music. It did Kim the world of good to have a little normality back. She even spoke to another person (from at least 2m away) Very exciting stuff!

We did our workout when Kim got home and then Kim did some stretches.

We took out the bins after Kim’s stretches and that was followed by a delicious dinner!

Sweet Potato Salad

We made a sweet potato salad for dinner which was SO GOOD! Light yet delicious.

We finished up with dinner and did the usual…playing some games and watching TV.

Place 72 – Day 219: Vancouver, BC – Morning Walk, Stretches & Daily Workout!

Morning Walk

We were up at 07:45 today and went right out for a walk.

We walked for about 30 minutes and then got ready for the day.

Kim did a few stretches when we got back, which really helped her.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a lot of meeting today, starting with his team meeting at 10:30, but he did some admin and tickets before that.

Curtis had some time after that, so helped some people with tickets.

At 12:00, Curtis had a project meeting which was very positive and helpful, followed by a meeting at 13:00 with his team again to discuss a few things that needed to be spoken about.

After that, Curtis had lunch with Kim, some toasties and vegetables, and then in the afternoon he made a Microsoft Forms form to log equipment that people have borrowed and then he had to help someone with a few different issues at the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by working on stuff for when she will be back in the office.

Towards the middle of the day Kim joined a few other colleagues for some Yoga, its one of the things that has bee revived for while everyone working remotely. We have one person share their screen and everyone follows along at home, it was great!

After yoga Kim worked on a one page overview for the winter party in Vancouver. She also took a little time to look into options for the other offices.

After lunch Kim worked on the Vancouver winter party a little more and contacted a venue with some questions!

For the afternoon Kim started to put together a quiz that people will be able to play remotely, but all together!

At the end of the day Kim was joined a team catch up. It was great t see everyone’s faces and see how they are all doing.

Workout

We decided it was probably good to do a workout each day, as we should only really be going outside for a little each day, so we did that after work.

We chucked some music on and found an app which has a 2 week workout plan, which we started.

We think this nearly killed us, but it should do us some good, especially as neither of us can do our regular sports.

We finished that and showered, but Kim did some more stretching.

We relaxed for the rest of the evening, had a tuna baked potato and watched some TV and we played some Need For Speed together!

Place 72 – Day 182: Vancouver, BC – Where Did The Day Go?!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a productive day, but not massively busy.
He mostly dealt with 2 or 3 different tickets throughout the day, trying to get to the bottom of the issues.

He did deal with a problem through Microsoft who he had to speak with on the phone a few times and he gathered files for Microsoft to review and troubleshoot.

Curtis got someone’s new laptop setup completed and took that to them and then it turns out he sat with them for the rest of the afternoon helping them get a few things configured and making sure all their files etc were there. He also setup the docking station for them and made sure that works.

Curtis’ day went insanely fast, which is a good thing!

Kim’s Day

Kim spent most of her day picking up odd jobs that she had been putting off, around when visitors were coming in and out.
In the morning Kim helped set up the conference room for a larger meeting. She also greeted everyone as they arrived and organised meeting rooms for people who arrived early and wanted somewhere to hide and work.

Kim then ordered catering to arrive for next week and then after lunch printed out her valentine’s day game and got it all ready to be played.

Towards the end of the day Kim hung around in the office so she could help clear away after the meeting.

Productive Evening

Curtis got home and took out the bins. Once he did that, he cleaned down the countertops in the kitchen and then he vacuumed apartment.

After vacuuming, Curtis sorted the laundry and made his lunch.

Kim went off to her helping at the pole place and when she got back we had some hoisin chicken and pasta for dinner.

We watched a bit of TV and headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 169: Vancouver, BC – The Migration Has Started!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis spent a lot of his day getting the final preparations done for the migration he had to start today.

He had a team meeting and then the migration started at 15:00!

The way he was going to do it wasn’t working and then he tried a few other ways and it still didn’t work.

Curtis found out that Microsoft had recently purchased a company that do just what Curtis was looking for and when he tried it (once he got home and was still trying the other ways for a while) it seemed to work.

There were a few other files that had to be done a different way and Curtis eventually figured it out. He stopped working around 21:30 but the migration will run overnight and hopefully complete by the morning!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her week playing catch up from last week.

She began with booking some travel for a new starter to come out in a week. She was also answering a lot of phone calls this morning.

When she wasn’t able to transfer someone through she was eventually told to go to hell and was hung up on. So that was delightful.

Kim also put away all of the shopping a fruit that arrived.

Kim then orgnaised catering for 2 mini events coming up next week.

Earlier in the day someone told Kim that they had ordered pizza, when it arrived the delivery man complained to Kim that there was no tip!

Kim tried to explain that she didn’t make the order but the driver would not give her the time of day.

Kim isn’t too sure what she did recently to bug to random people in 1 morning but hey ho!

Can’t let it get to you! Kim then spent some time listening to her phone messages and got caught up on that.

She then spent some of the afternoon planning the layout of one of the catered events, she drew up a floor plan and devised how the bar should be set up.

At the end of the day Kim ran to the storage to pick up the Halloween decorations so they can take inventory of what is available and what is needed.

Getting Ready For Our Trip

Kim was out training and whilst Curtis was working, he was also packing and getting ready for our short trip away which starts after work tomorrow!

Kim got home and we watched a little bit of TV and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 166: Vancouver, BC – Sniffles

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a plan to look at an issue for someone in the morning, which is what he did.

He then continued to do some project work from yesterday.

After his daily team meeting, Curtis had a bit more time to do project work and then had to go into the boardroom to test everything in there and setup for the big company wide meeting that was taking place in there.

The test went went and so did the meeting with just a few hiccups in general and none on the Vancouver office side, which was excellent!

After the meeting, Curtis finally had lunch, did some tickets and finally finished off some project work.

Curtis got a beer and drank that whilst completing an off board and then walked home.

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she started on a few emails before heading into a meeting to talk about catering options for a couple of upcoming functions. It was great to have clarification and fresh eyes!

The rest of the day was much of the same, Kim reconciled payments around other ad hoc tasks like getting the post, trying to return an item for someone and sending outgoing mail.
Kim then had a food delivery and ran that over to the meeting.

It must have been good because 1 by 1 everyone came and told Kim what an amazing meal it was!

Kim then spent about an hour and a half trying to send things via FedEx, it took 3 attempts online and 2 phone calls to get it sorted.

After this Kim continued with the reconciliation a d took a quick break to set up the friday afternoon drinks. Then after that Kim sent out an invite and some information in regards to some diwali celebrations.

Sniffles

We got back home and caught up on some YouTube videos before Kim left for training.

Kim’s Training

Kim’s training this evening went so well. She did 2 run throughs of her routine and was able to add a move back in after falling over in practice doing in.

Kim did not want to have a mental block for the move so she threw it in during the second run and stuck it which is amazing!

Kim also watched 2 other peoples routines and they were spectacular!

Curtis was playing games whilst Kim was out and was feeling bad for himself…He seems to have gotten more of a cold even though he thought he was getting better! He started to get a runny nose and more of a sore throat, unfortunately.

When Kim got back home, we watched a bit more TV and went to bed. We need to be up at a good time tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 165: Vancouver, BC – New Jerseys!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work a little early, though he still wasn’t feeling great.

For most of the day, Curtis got some more project work done and is almost done with the preparations for it to begin properly next week.

Curtis had a few interesting tickets to help with throughout the day, which gave him a break from doing the same thing over and over again.

Curtis left with the feeling of achieving today, which is amazing.

On the way home, it was raining, and Curtis got absolutely drenched by a car that drove past him!

Kim’s Day

Kim had a class she wanted to make in the evening so she went in an hour early so she had time to leave an hour early. Before Kim got to work, she made her lunch and then put it back in the fridge and left. Not the smartest move ever.

When Kim got in she started by catching up on the late night emails she received the night before and sorted them out. She then designed and sent across for review 2 sets of business cards.

Mid morning there was an earthquake drill that was only meant to happen on a few floors.

This wasn’t ideal as we had a fair few meetings going on, but we just sent out a few messages and people calmed down.

Kim spent the rest of the day going through invoices, she sorted all the travel invoices and found the few that she saves at the end of the month and saved those too.

Kim then started the fun job of reconciliations and only made it a few rows in before getting dragged somewhere else.

The weekly pizza arrived so Kim set all of that up.

We have a biweekly food deliver for a team meeting, luckily our rep noticed that the order had been cancelled and realised before the order would have to be placed.

The company Kim works for has an initiative where you sign up for a coffee chat with someone.

Who ever wants to can put their name into a hat and then they are randomly matched up and you then go for a little informal chat with a random person in the company. Kim signed up for this and was paired up with a guy that sits just around the from her. They had a great little catch up in the kitchen and talked about their hobbies, previous work places and he explained what the company does to Kim as she isn’t entirely sure. She now has a slightly better understanding.

Kim and her colleague then went upstairs to the rooftop meeting room to clear away the days worth of lunch and snack rubbish as there was an all day meeting that had been on. Once this was done Kim headed home.

Sittin’ In A Car

Kim had a lot of training today, so she went to some and then briefly came back home. For her last training, Curtis had to go in the car with her with his hockey kit as we only have 1 car and Kim’s training time and Curtis’ hockey game time are too close together.

Curtis sat in the car whilst Kim was at training and once she was out, we drove to the rink for Curtis’ game.

Kim’s Training

Kims first class was open training so Kim worked on a combo that has been bothering her and also managed to fit it to the music a little better.

The 2nd class was an actual class where Kim was taught moves. It was the first time Kim attended this class at her usual location and she absolutely loved it!

The group were fun and the instructor was great too.

She then popped home before heading out again, this time Curtis came too! Kim wanted to try the routine fully in a place there is more space, luckily one of the studios is near where Curtis plays hockey, so she popped in for 30 minutes and ran through the routine twice! She now only has minor adjustments to make, but basically has a fully constructed routine at this point, which is a massive win.

Curtis’ team got their new jerseys, which are beautiful!

Curtis was still feeling a little sick, so didn’t play too well and was struggling to skate and breath!

Curtis got his first penalty, which was for roughing…it was quite fun though!

His team lost 3-1, but it was against the top placed team.

Place 72 – Day 164: Vancouver, BC – Going Home Sick

Curtis’ Day

Curtis seemed to wake up with a bit of a sore throat this morning which he assumes is from the fact that Kim has been battling with one for the last week or so.

Curtis got to work and had a 1 hour team training session which was actually very helpful.

After the meeting, Curtis completed his admin for the day, answered some questions regarding his project and had a few ticket related things to do.

For most of the rest of the day, other than a quick demo from his colleague, Curtis did some more project work and testing.

Curtis felt worse and worse as the day went on, so much so that at around 15:15, Curtis went home to work, so he didn’t spread his germs and also so he could relax a little.

After finishing an offboard Curtis needed to do, he watched hockey and had some tomato soup.

Kim’s Day

Kim started the morning by finishing the invite information from yesterday and sending that over to her colleague for review. She then had to revisit the email about Halloween too as the attachment didn’t work, so Kim collected the best Halloween puns she could to make the email a little more interesting than ‘here is the right attachment’.

The hotel that Kim Kim thought she had sorted out yesterday called and said that there was another issue so Kim fixed that too.

Kim then finally got around to uploading the monthly social talks for people to easily find them. Then after that she continued on her old Wiki project. She updated a forms page where she has now collated all of the forms that people might need when in the office and put them in one place.

This then had a knock on effect where Kim realised she had been putting off making a form for packages being sent out. Kim finally took some time in the afternoon to make a nice and new form that covers all the information she needs, but in a way that doesn’t look like too much hassle for the person sending the item.

Towards the end of the day Kim put some hooks in the meeting rooms to allow people to hang up loose wires. It makes the rooms look neater and causes less of a tripping hazard.

Training & The Apprentice

Kim went training in the evening and Curtis just drank plenty of water and tried to get better!

Kim got some small pizzas for dinner and then when she got home we watched The Apprentice!

Place 72 – Day 156: Vancouver, BC – Ale Hunt & Falling!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work at the perfect time and was told that there was a fire in the building next door!

Luckily, Curtis didn’t have to evacuate, but the sirens and alarms could be heard for a while.

Curtis did a lot of the same as he did yesterday, but also had a few tickets that came in, right after he cleared most of his out!

The afternoon was the busiest part of the day, with many a ticket to get stuck into and a couple more challenging then normal.

Curtis left the office after work and walked home.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim had a fair few productive meetings! Her first meeting was relatively early in the morning was with her colleague and they discussed the holiday party invites and a little bit about travel. It was a short and sweet meeting.

After this meeting Kim had a meeting with finance about credit cards and they ironed out some of the processes and that meeting went well.

Kim then had some time to catch up on emails when someone from a stationary company came in and said he had a meeting with her too! It turned out that he had the wrong email address so all Kim knew was that he might be coming in at some point in the afternoon.

Kim grabbed her colleague and they had an interesting meeting.

After this is was suddenly 13:30, Kim and her colleague were so hungry so they went and grabbed crepes by using a discount and had a little sit down and catch up over lunch.

After lunch Kim spent most of her afternoon sorting out the first aid cupboard with 2 and then one other first aider. Kim had to nip out a few time to greet a candidate and organise some travel.

It was a really productive day, but it felt like Kim didn’t stop for a second!

Ale Hunt

Curtis got home before Kim, so he did the cleaning, vacuuming etc and took out all the bins.

When Kim got back home, she made a stew which was then bound to become a pie! She needed ale for this, so Curtis went to find some.

The liquor store didn’t have really any, so much so that Curtis had to hunt the lone bottle of ale down! It’s a 9% beer, too!

Kim finished off the dinner and Curtis had some as a stew as the pie won’t be constructed until tomorrow.

Kim’s training session was good fun.

Kim was able to try out a replacement combo for her routine, its her favourite combo so she is glad to get it put in!

She did also fall off and it would have been onto her head but luckily she got her arms up quick!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was able to get some further testing done with a user for his project when he got in and then he had a team meeting to talk about another project that is coming to an end.

After that, there was a few tickets that Curtis got sorted and then spent a long time trying to get something sorted for accounts with a purchase order.

Just before and after lunch, Curtis helped someone with a couple of email issues, which he spent a long time fixing and eventually got that done.

Curtis spent the last few parts of the day changing some guides for his project as well as starting to setup a laptop.

Kim’s Day

One of the first things Kim did this morning was to do the building tour for the new started who came in in the afternoon yesterday.

Kim went from that straight into a meeting that lasted most of the morning for first aid and other things with her teammate. Then from that into making up busniess cards from yesterdays replies. A fair few of them needed a few amendments so that took a while.

After lunch Kim then went into a confrence call meeting in regards to a new system she wants to put in place. It was Kim with a few colleagues and they all received a demo and asked a lot of questions. At the end of the meeting Kim was very pleased with it and is interested in seeing what comes from it all.

After this Kim went to staples to pick up some notebooks, some adhesive hooks and a clock. Kim thought that the hooks might be a good idea for the loose wires in meeting rooms that need to be moved around a lot.

A few people asked for a clock in the kitchen so Kim picked one up at staples. When she got back Kim put the clock up and it looks awesome!
Kim then caught up on a few emails as she spent most of the day in meetings she hardly had a chance to keep up today!

Kim went to an intermediate class today where she wasnt sure she would be able to keep up. Luckily she was able to for the most part which was great!

Kim then walked home before heading out to a different class at another location. This is the same class Kim takes every week and she absolutely loves it. She was able to get most of the moves but could not figure one of them out, but thats just one to practise and get better at.

Busy Evening!

Curtis got home and watched the Leafs’ first game of the regular season.

Kim had 2 training sessions this evening which were pretty much back to back, so she was out for most of the evening.

After that, once Kim got back, we headed out to Richmond for Curtis’ hockey game!

Curtis’ game went really well and he he got one of the player of the game beers from the other team! Curtis’ team won 4-3 against the team they lost 7-1 against before.

Exercise Morning

Kim was up at 09:00 to go to her exercise class for 10:00.

Curtis had breakfast with coffee and played some games whilst Kim was out.

Video Admin

Kim got back home and had some admin to do with the videos she had taken at her exercise. She had to export them from the GoPro and download them.

Coffee & Lunch

We went out briefly for coffee, but stopped in at Tim Horton’s for some food. Kim got a sandwich and Curtis got a bacon grilled cheese.

We walked on to 49th parallel. Curtis loves their coffee and Kim loves their doughnuts! Kim got a chocolate doughnut and Curtis got a cappucino.

Leafs

Curtis watched the Leafs game, and Kim watched a little bit too! The Leafs dominated, which was awesome to watch.

After watching that, we watched some YouTube and then left to drive to Richmond for Curtis’ hockey game.

Curtis’ Hockey Game

We got to the rink and realised shortly after that neither of us brought our wallets! We told the people on the desk and they were fine with it, luckily.

Curtis’ game went ok, but they ended up losing 4-3, making them now officially the last place team, but its early days!

Curtis played well defensively, but not great offensively.

Homemade Moscow Mules

We got home and Curtis showered. After that, we had a bit of food. Curtis finished the leftover Chinese food and Kim just had pop tarts.

We watched some more YouTube and had homemade Moscow mules which Kim gott the idea from work for! They were great, with quite a lot of booze.
