Place 72 – September 22 2021: Vancouver, BC – We Are Permenent Residents!

We did it!

We officially got accepted for permanent residence here in Canada!

So what does that mean?

This means we no longer have any restrictions like we did on our permits and we can stay here in Canada for 5 years before we need to renew it (which is apparently easy).

What next?

We need to get our PR cards, which we can do online and once we get those, we can get our new SIN (social insurance number).

Once that’s done, the process is done! Then, we’re able to come and go as we please and work here as we please for 5 years.

This is all exciting! We are glad the process is finally done and we’re residents of Canada!

Place 72 – Day 517: Vancouver, BC – Requirements Discussion & HR Things

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a very busy morning with many questions and tickets being directed his way.

At 10:30, Curtis had a Norwegian lesson which went excellently and then he got back to many messages and tickets again.

Shortly after finishing his lesson, he had a meeting around a project to discuss requirements and ensure that everyone was on the same page. That went well and progress was made, which is terrific!

We had some lunch and then Curtis did some project work and managed to start and finish a project in an hour.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by continuing on with putting some of the HR documents on to the HR system as a template. She then joined the weekly meeting and provided updates for the department she is in.

After the meeting Kim wrote up a few things for her colleague and sent them over. She then joined a meeting to discuss a candidate, which went well.

In the afternoon Kim focused on finishing the HR paperwork she started earlier and also updated some other information on that system too.

Kim also managed to get a few things done for the facilities project.

Evening

Kim went out to the shop to get some wine for the dinner (and to drink a little, of course) and something from the pharmacy.

We made a mushroom and tomato pasta which we’ve not had for a while and it was excellent!

We ate and relaxed for the evening and had a few discussions with the agent who is selling our apartment with regards to what we need to do etc.

Place 72 – Day 374: Vancouver, BC – First Professional Norwegian Lesson!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did some admin and some tickets at the start of the day and then at 10:30, he had his first ever professional Norwegian lesson! He has been self teaching for about 12 years, but thought it was time he had some professional help, and an opportunity to speak Norwegian!

The lesson was through an app called iTalki which is used for learning languages. It wasn’t free, but it was worth it, and Curtis was able to pay a little less for a trial lesson.

The class was more of a conversation, both people getting to know each other, but the whole 30 minutes was in Norwegian only, which really helped Curtis and he enjoyed it. He is already looking forward to the next lesson!

He had a couple of meetings to round out the morning and the did some tickets and admin after lunch.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent her day finishing a few things for the summer party tomorrow. Most of her morning focused on finishing the quizzes and she had a quick meeting to go over the timeline and make a few changes to that.

After that Kim focused on making a How to Kahoot slideshow and another stand alone agenda for that. Then she updated the changing agenda with the few changes too!

Kim had a team meeting in the afternoon and they went over some points from the last party and helped with a few things for the next two.

For the rest of the afternoon Kim focused on the final quiz for tomorrow’s party. Once that was completed Kim and her colleague did a run through to check timings and made edits to the quizzes after. It was another long day, but totally worth it.

Evening

Kim was home late again, as to be expected with her current project work going on, so the evening was a lot like yesterday.

Curtis had a pizza and waited for Kim to get home and then she had some food and we watched a bit of TV.

Place 72 – Day 45: Vancouver, BC – Successful Project & Exciting Week!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis arrived at work and had a message from a colleague saying the CEO was having some IT problems, so Curtis said he would deal with it when the CEO arrives at the office.

The morning was busy for Curtis and he didn’t stop until around 12:15!

He fixed the CEO’s issues as well as completed an offboard and he allowed install of the new version of Windows 10.

Curtis had lunch and then just after, a new espresso machine was installed so Curtis had to try it out! The coffee was alright but could have been better.

Curtis got invited to something very exclusive and incredible…He is very excited and that is on Thursday evening, so stay tuned for that!

Curtis wasn’t as busy in the afternoon but did write a guide. Once that was done, it was time to head home.

Kim’s Day

Kim got into work a little early and started right away. She was anticipating coming into a few emails in regards to the project that went ahead over the weekend, but there was nothing! It was a huge relief, the project was successful and now Kim can move on to the next phase, which is great news.

Kim started her day by catching up on emails and the normal Monday stuff. Kim then had a new hire building tour to go through. It was fresh in Kim’s mind as she only experienced it herself just 2 weeks ago! A colleague came along and pointed out things Kim missed, but it went very well overall.

Kim was then tasked with booking multiple lunches and a dinner for some meetings next month.

Then, Kim spent some time tinkering away with the project. Then the weekly fruit order came in so Kim packed it away and then went back to general reception duties.

At lunch Kim went up to the roof and caught some sun. It was so nice to get in the fresh air in the middle of the day.

When she got back to her desk, Kim spent more time between the project, answering calls and other small admin tasks.

Towards the end of the day, Kim was asked to FedEx something out. This came at a great time as she was able to have her colleague help her before she leaves at the end of the week. Kim did the online booking and then they went to drop off the package.

When she got back, Kim only had 15 minutes so continued with some admin tasks and making notes of things to pick up tomorrow.

Today was a slower day, so a bit of a gear change from the past weeks, but its the first full and relatively normal week, so its to be expected.

Evening Walk

We actually both left work and met each other on the way home.

We walked home together and when we got home we setup our new toaster and kettle!

Kim went for a short walk to get outside for a bit and then when she got back we had an amazing chicken ceasar salad for dinner.

After dinner we watched some YouTube videos and then an episode of Black Mirror and one of Lucifer.
