Place 70 – Day 33: Victoria, BC – Beacon Drive In, Another Friend & Delicious Italian Food

Beacon Drive-In

We woke up around 08:30 and we got ready to go out for breakfast.

We both walked up to the Beacon Drive in, a staple for us when we come here, and got ourselves some nice breakfast and relaxed there for a bit.

Linda came and joined us and we chatted whilst Kim ate an ice cream and then we left for a walk.

A Nice Walk

We planned to go into the petting zoo that was in the nearby park, but unfortunately it was closed! We were able to see some goats and other animals through the fence though, which was really nice.

We did a bit more of a walk around the area and Linda pointed out a few new places and points of interest nearby that we’d not seen before.

A Friend

We headed back to Linda’s place and then after a while, we both walked down to meet a friend of Kim’s for a coffee and we got to meet her child who is now nearly 1!

After a great long conversation, we walked back to Linda’s and got ready for dinner.

Delicious Italian Food

We met a couple of Linda’s friends at an Italian restaurant across the street which we had been to once before. It was AMAZING food! Kim had mushroom pasta and Curtis had lasagne. Both were phenomenal.

We got profiteroles to share for dessert and then we were truly stuffed!

Fisherman’s Wharf

We managed a nice evening walk to Fisherman’s Wharf just down the street, though it was pretty cold, so we came back to Linda’s and relaxed before heading to bed.

Place 72 – Day 998: Vancouver, BC – Why Does It Smell So Good?!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had another orientation at 09:00 this morning which went really well and the person was also very nice.

He had a team meeting after that and then did some tickets followed by another meeting to discuss a new process.

Curtis had to get a list of people that took chairs home which he needed to take from the ticket system.

Once that was done, he had some lunch and then reviewed some security systems to check for anything of note.

There were more tickets to do in the afternoon and then he had a bit of spare time to get some more Norwegian homework done.

Kim’s Day

To start the day Kim joined a meeting to discuss next steps with candidates for a role, it was great to get on the same page. She then later joined a 1-1 meeting with an employee to see how they are settling in to their new role.

Kim then had a call with a new starter where they asked how they could support Kim’s teams! It was wild to be offered support and someone turn to the department and ask ‘what can I take off of your plate’, which was so lovely and maybe even a little odd! She then had another 1-1 with a new employee to see how their onboarding went.

To start the afternoon Kim had a sit down with her manager to go over events planning as the plan she had for Friday may be ruined by rain! She then joined a meeting to discuss teams and planning with a department manager before joining an interview.

After the interview Kim joined another planning meeting about a different department. She then had a quick review of the interview before joining a weekly recruitment meeting for the same team.

In the evening Kim was able to really sink her teeth into some admin. She started making some steps in the planning for Friday and she was able to get a few salary based tasks done.

Evening

Kim did a little more work in the evening after she had an appointment and then we had some dinner. Everything outside smelled so good for some reason, all day, many different excellent smells so we were hungry for most of the day!

Kim did some more work after dinner and then we relaxed for the evening watching some TV.

Place 72 – Day 380: Vancouver, BC – An Electrician

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got up and ready and then got himself sorted to go to the office.

At 09:30, Curtis walked to the office as he had an onboard to complete and setup the laptop for.

Curtis got the laptop setup and the accounts created and then had to ship the laptop out.

During this time, Curtis also had a team meeting.

Curtis had a chat with a colleague about changing people’s names in different applications and if it would break anything as he has to do so next week.

He did a couple of tickets and then the electrician turned up, who was adding a new plug socket in the office.

This took much, much longer than expected and Curtis and his colleague had planned to do something else in that room but were unable to do so as it took so long with the electrician.

Curtis ended up leaving the office around 18:00 and walked home. He’ll be back in tomorrow to do the other thing he needed to get done.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a team meeting to start her day and it went really well. They set up some good plans for the next few weeks.

She then spent some time catching up on emails and messages before deciding to finally clean out the meeting room she has been foubking up as a storage space. She collected and sorted all the stuff that will be donated and just had a general clear out of stuff that doesnt need to be in there.

In the afternoon Kim focused on sorting through the stationary that she put to one side during the office clean up. She tested all the pens, put things into the donation pile and then set everything aside to stay overnight and be put away tomorrow. She finished the cleaning day by checking out the bookshelf and finding any duplicates.

Evening

When Curtis eventually got home, Kim was amazing and had taken out all the bins and made dinner!

Curtis was able to sit down and enjoy some incredible tomato and mushroom pasta and a glass of wine, thanks to his incredible wife.

We watched some YouTube videos and some of The Umbrella Academy and relax for the evening.

Curtis didn’t sleep well last night so he was very tired today!
