Place 70 – Day 32: Victoria, BC – Airport Pickup & Finally Seeing Linda!

We woke up at a good time, though Kim woke up early as a dog was barking constantly in the hotel and she heard that so she couldn’t get back to sleep.

We got up and ready around 10:00 and packed up the last few things, showered and then took our stuff down to the car.

After checking out, we went to grab some breakfast. We found a cafe and Curtis got a breakfast muffin and Kim got a pesto and brie toasted sandwich, along with a coffee each.

We ate our food whilst sat in the sun and then we got the car and drove to a car wash. We vacuumed the car and then tried to go to a car wash, but it was too busy so we had to head to the airport.

Somehow, Curtis managed to lose his mask during this time, so had to use a disposable one for the time being.

We met Linda in the airport as she was returning from Kelowna on a flight and we were very happy to see Linda again after what must be at least 2 years!

We had a great chat on the way home and once we got back to Linda’s place, we had more of a chat with her and then we went out to the mall to see if we could get Curtis a new mask.

We found a mask, but it wasn’t actually that great. Linda then remembered she had a perfect one lying around, so Curtis has that now instead!

We went out for dinner with Linda to a place down the road called the steamship grill, which is somewhere we had been a few times with Linda.

Curtis had a salmon burger and Kim had a Nashville chicken caesar salad. Unfortunately, Kim’s food tasted a little fishy, so she didn’t really eat much, but we did have a lot of bread and chips so she ate those!

We walked back to Linda’s and spent the remainder of the evening having a great conversation, as always with Linda!

We have some fun times planned, and lots of dinners, over the next few days.

Place 72 – Day 925: Vancouver, BC – Miserable Weather

We woke up and Curtis went out to get some croissants and coffee for breakfast.

We ate those, watched the F1 race and then got ourselves showered.

We chatted with Kim’s family for a bit and then Kim did some work for a few hours whilst Curtis played games. The weather was gross, so we couldn’t really go out anywhere and Kim needed to get a bit of work done.

After Kim was done, we went out to the supermarket to do our weekly shop.

We did that and then came home and had potatoes, peas, mushrooms, egg and cheese for dinner, something Kim has made a few times from her cookbook. Very delicious, quick and easy!

We watched a bit of TV and then it was time for Kim to have her nice Sunday night relaxing bath.

After Kim’s bath, we watched a bit more TV and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 862: Vancouver, BC – Another Desk & Beautiful Day

Family Chat

Kim’s family wanted a chat, so after breakfast we got ready and had a chat with them for an hour and a bit before we had to head out.

Another Desk

We picked up a desk we had seen a while ago which we are going to use for Curtis’ office in the new apartment.

We got that and it wasn’t too far from our new apartment so we walked over to pick it up and walked it to the new place.

We dropped it off and then went for a nice long walk.

Beautiful Day

The weather was beautiful today, nice and sunny but not too hot, so perfect to be outside, which clearly everyone else thought the same as it was busy outside!

We got a coffee for Curtis and then went to get Kim and ice cream. Whilst we waited in the queue for that, we saw subway had ‘potato bun’ snack sandwiches, so we got one those each, too.

We had a really nice long walk to the beach, keeping out of the way of everyone and just really enjoyed the weather.

Hockey & More Furniture Shopping

We got back home and Curtis watched the Leafs game and during that, Kim went out to Homesense to take a look at some other bits of furniture we may need for the new place.

She managed to find a small stool which also has storage that we can use at the entrance to store shoes and to sit on, because why not.

Kim took that over to the new apartment and also a chair from home as she will be at the new apartment tomorrow for some of the day waiting for the new sofa to be delivered!

Sweet Chicken Thighs

We had sweet chicken thighs for dinner along with some more potato salad.

We then relaxed for a bit together and Kim had a nice relaxing bath before heading to bed.

Place 72 – Day 559: Vancouver, BC – We Definitely Have A New Apartment!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had his Norwegian lesson in the morning which went incredibly well! He had a great conversation that flowed naturally.

After that, he had back to back meetings. The first was a project update meeting and the second was to understand some issues for a team and make a plan of how to resolve those.

Once that meeting was done and Kim was done with her meeting, we took our lunch break and used it to go to the apartment we were offered just to make sure it’s what we want…which it was! The landlord was amazing and the space was even more perfect then we thought.

We verbally agreed to sign and got all the paperwork to sort out!

For some of the afternoon, Curtis looked up about swapping internet providers to save some money at the new apartment, as well as hired a moving company as we are super lazy and can’t be bothered to do it ourselves.

We got that done and looked over the lease agreement and contract etc.

Kim’s Day

Kim worked in a few documents to be ready for meetings for the day. She then joined a recruitment meeting to discuss one departments needs for the next few months. Kim was able to get a great idea of the roles needed and how to put together the job descriptions for them.

She then presented in the weekly meeting before joining the weekly project huddle.

After the viewing Kim did a little training with her new teammate and made sure that they have the right log ins and accesses. She then had a meeting with another teammate to go over documents that they have been working on.

To finish the day Kim did a little admin and then popped out to a shop to pick up something that had been delivered. It turns out that it hasn’t been delivered, so Kim went to another shop for some things for dinner and then headed home.

Evening

When Kim finished work, we made some food (just some seasoned chicken in a wrap with cheese, BBQ sauce and mayo) then we went out to the supermarket to do our shop.

Once we got back, we took out the bins and then we looked at some additional furniture we will need for our new apartment, most notably a desk and chair each, as we’ll each have dedicated office areas, which is exciting!

Curtis also bought himself a monitor to work and play games on.

We relaxed for what was left of the evening…it was a busy one!

Place 72 – Day 545: Vancouver, BC – Pancake Day!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was meant to have a call with someone at 09:30 but they had a conflict, so he just had a very brief chat with them instead.

At 10:30, Curtis had his Norwegian lesson which was great, and then he had back to back meetings.

The first was a project update meeting, with very little to do in that once, then the next meeting was a team catch-up meeting in which some good topics were discussed.

As it was the first day after a stat day, it was pretty busy on the support front, but it kept Curtis busy!

He was able to have a meeting with someone to get an issue sorted for them, and it seemed that he got it working, which was great as it was a long standing issue.

Kim’s Day

To start the day Kim sent a lot of emails to catch up from last week and get ready for the week coming. She then spent the rest of the morning in meetings! She gave an update in the weekly meeting, then she supported a project meeting and finally she joined a meeting to discuss new job openings.

In the afternoon Kim had a quick call with a vendor and then sent out a survey for a new event coming up in a month. Kim then popped out to drop off a laptop to someone and then popped by the supermarket on the way home to pick up a few things for dinners for the week.

Once she was home Kim worked on some contracts for new starters and got a few other things done too.

Evening

It’s Pancake Day today! Really, though, we just wanted to have pancakes, so why not use that as an excuse!

We had breakfast for dinner with pancakes, hash browns, sausage (for Curtis) beans and egg.

We ate that and had more pancakes for dessert with chocolate.

We watched some TV and relaxed from our busy days.

Day 72 – Day 259: Vancouver, BC – Distant Friend Visit

Distant Friend Visit

We had some eggs for breakfast and then Kim got ready to go out.

Kim went out to the shops first to get some masks for when we look at apartments as well as a few other things.

Kim then drove out to see her friend Lucy, distanced, of course.

She sat out on the patio whilst Lucy was in her doorway, just so they could chat in person for a bit, which was well warranted!

We did have a plan to go and see an apartment today, but as we didn’t book in, we have to wait until tomorrow for that.

2 Takeaways In A Week!

When Kim got home, we looked at some more apartments and contacted some of them for viewings.

We then watched a bit of TV but started to get hungry. We both oddly had a craving for McDonald’s, which we haven’t had in what feels like forever, so we ordered one for dinner!

We watched some more TV with dinner, and then played some mini sticks, followed by some Need For Speed.

Place 72 – Day 257: Vancouver, BC – Positive Steps

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting right at the start of the day with his team to create a diagram of how different systems work together as well as a few ideas on how to resolve a few issues and challenges.

After that meeting, Curtis and some tickets to complete and then had lunch.

After lunch, Curtis had another meeting which Wass an update for a lot of the company as well as a Q&A.

After that, Curtis did a few more tickets followed by 3 offboards of contractors that had left today.

Kim’s Day

Kim had a game of cribbage to start her day today. It was such a close game, but unfortunately they lost. Kim spent a lot of the morning trying to get organised, she got the go ahead on a few things so Kim started writing notes for meetings coming up and making plans.

At midday Kim had her 1:1 and it was amazing! It was so productive, Kim got a few answers to things that she had been waiting for and got good direction for a lot of things.

Straight after the 1:1 Kim had a different type of doctors appointment, it was with a neurologist. Kim had a migrane a few months ago, that with the other medical stuff she has been dealing with made her doctor want to refer her on to a specialist. They went over the migraine and everything else and nothing seems too outstanding and bad, which is great. The plan is to catch up in 6 months and come into the office for a face to face examination, once all this stuff with COVID-19 has blown over.

Kim then had a catch up with her teammate where she went over a few questions she had about projects they are working on. It was great to have a catch up too!

In the afternoon Kim reached out to vendors to let them know she had moved their stuff in the office during the big clean up! She also started making a plan for events in May.

Landlord Conversation

We had a chat with our landlord after we finished working and he was able to fix a couple of things for us, too.

We had a long chat with him about a few things.

We finished our chat and it was past 19:00, so we were pretty hungry!

Kim made hoisin chicken pasta, which we had to use spaghetti for as we had no other pasta, and we just relaxed and watched TV for the rest of the evening.

Kim got home and used the stud finder as well as looking online to see if she can get a pole for home, and Curtis spent time building the two goals for mini sticks. We’ve now really upgraded our mini sticks setup!
