Place 72 – Day 306: Vancouver, BC – New Laptop!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a quiet day, overall.

He was waiting for our new laptop to arrive and it was meant to arrive before 12:00, but he had no idea when it would arrive and if it was to arrive, they wouldn’t be able to buzz up as the intercom doesn’t work with our phones! This meant that Curtis had to keep looking outside and he eventually saw the FedEx truck at 11:30, so he ran downstairs to meet the delivery driver.

Curtis got the laptop, which is a Microsoft SurfaceBook 3 and had a play around with that and then did a bit more work, mostly tickets.

Just after that, Curtis had a meeting in which he gathered requirements as an IT Business Analyst around some pain points someone was having and what they wanted to achieve. Curtis took some notes here and setup another meeting with some people from his team to discuss next steps.

Curtis had some lunch and then a VERY quiet afternoon, just doing a handful of tickets and some admin.

At 16:00, there was an EA press conference which Curtis watched, and then he played some games.

Kim’s Day

In the morning Kim had some company to help with stuff around the office. As the plan for the day was all about cleaning and getting IT equipment ready a couple of the people from the IT team came into help. They went about cleaning and collecting some of the equipment from around the office and just before midday Kim went and collected pizzas for everyone as a thank you for helping out.

Once the IT people left Kim started hosted a quick game. She set up some tome to play Drawful on Jackbox and it went quite well. It was just a small crowd of people but it was good fun!

After the game Kim continued working on the signage for the office. It involved remaking a few of the signs and drafting up a few more. She was also working on some potential changes to the phone system, so had a couple of calls with the support team for if and how the things Kim wanted to change would work.

Face Masks

We had a really tasty chicken breast each with lemon and mustard sauce, along with some potatoes, broccoli and corn on the cob.

After dinner, we watched some TV and then did some face masks! They actually burned our faces a little, which wasn’t great, so we got rid of them pretty quick. They did seem to make our faces smooth, though!

We had a homemade cookie each whilst watching a bit more TV and then we headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 193: Vancouver, BC – Some Rough Stuff

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work a little later than usual today, but still on time!

He had some admin to get done and got ready for his team project meeting.

After that meeting, Curtis had a few ticket based things to get done and then had a few meetings.

He had a meeting to discuss a new process with his team and then after that, he had a training session regarding some network things.

Curtis did something that took a long time, but he was glad he got it done.

When Curtis finished lunch, he completed an offboard and once that was done he put away a bunch of hardware that returned from a conference and then went and had a drink with people in the office.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by going through emails and setting herself up. She then spent a while going through her expenses and making sure everything matches.

She had a meeting with a colleague to go over the ordering process for the two other offices while she is away on leave. It was great to get a chance to go through a the log ins and processes with help the first time.

The pizza then arrived for the monthly social talk so Kim set that up and then the talks went ahead. was a shorter session today with only 3 talks so Kim allowed people a longer time slot.

After she cleared all the pizza boxes away Kim went to set up guitar hero in the kitchen. She forgot that she kept the xbox and everything thats needed upstairs for easy access. This meant she took a trolley all the way to the basement to pick up a load of useless stuff that she just has to return back there at some point.

Kim had been experiencing a little strain in her shoulder lately so she had arranged for a 30 minute deep tissue massage through her insurance company to sort that out. She went to that, had a great time with the therapist there, he recently loved back to BC from Auckland, New Zealand so there was lots to talk about.

When Kim got back she helped finish the set up for the Friday afternoon drinks and got back to work.

Kim took the quiet time to go through the transactions that take a little more digging to find the answer. She is now only left with a couple that require waiting on a response or that need a phone call.

She wrote up the message for an upcoming holiday themed potluck and spent a good amount of time going through the backlog! It was great to have a bit of time to answer the smaller questions and get some stuff off of her plate.

Hockey Time!

Curtis had a hockey game at 21:15. He got home and sorted out his hockey kit, as well as re-taping his stick.

He put all of that in the car and then made some dinner.

He made chicken teriyaki with rice, it was tasty and quick and easy!

At 20:10, we left to head to he rink.

Curtis’ team lost 7-2…which isn’t good, but they did have a lot of spare players instead of regular players.

Curtis’ line played pretty well, but at the end of the game, curtis got 6 penalty minutes for retaliating to someone cross checking him.

Due to this, he was kicked from the game, with there being just a couple of minutes left in the game.

We got back home and it was pretty much bed time, so we got ready to sleep.

Place 72 – Day 110: Vancouver, BC – Someone Stealing Shoes!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day was full of mostly just trying to get laptops setup for a company ran exhibition/conference which happens in September.

The specifications were a little different, so Curtis and his team had to find out how to do certain things etc.

As well as doing that, Curtis had a long meeting to discuss the new team structure followed by lunch!

For lunch, Curtis went to the Mexican truck just outside which was delicious as ever.

After lunch, Curtis gave someone a new laptop and then the company got some really good news, so they got to celebrate with prosecco & delicious doughnuts!

After that, Curtis went back to doing what he had been doing all day, but then had to offboard someone at 15:00 and once he was done doing that, it was beer o’clock.

Curtis sat with others from the office for around an hour and then headed to mert Kim.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent the beginning of her morning at her desk sorting out emails before having a sit down mid morning to eat some breakfast. When she got back to her desk, Kim had a nice catch up with the lady who comes in to water the plants. Its been over 6 weeks since she saw her last! Madness!

Kim then started her first bigger task for the day which was to replace the legs on one of the desks. She managed to remove the legs okay, but was finding it difficult to screw the new ones on without just a screwdriver as they kept getting stuck at a funny angle. So she found a drill and tried again, it turns out that the screwdriver was wonky. So Kim put this task to one side as the pizza for the end of month talks arrived. Just as she was finalising the payment the other food delivery arrived so she ran that to the group and went about setting up for the monthly talks. She organised the chairs and helped set up bits of the AV and then set the pizza up.

The talks for the month were wonderful, Kim didn’t understand them all but it was very interesting. At the end of the talk, the lady who usually presents past that role over to Kim as she just took on a new job and wouldn’t have too much time for it anymore. Its exciting for Kim to have this as an on going monthly little project.

After the talks Kim sorted the leftover pizza and cleared the area up before taking another stab at the desk. A colleague allowed Kim to use their drill from the IT department, turns out that the battery was flat and once it had ‘charged’ they learnt that the battery did not work. Kim then made makeshift legs out of 2 pedestals and called it a day with that!

Kim then took some time to head to the liquor store and pick up some wine and cider.

Kim then took some time to clear out the junk she had inherited around the front desk area and put a lot into storage. She also took a cabinet filled with paper to use as a cover up to hide things behind!

It was then the final task for the day and Kim set up all the drinks and made them loom beautiful! Kim stayed for most of the afternoon drinks and then left to meet Curtis.

Someone Stealing Shoes!

On the walk home, we saw a guy tackle someone and were a little confused.

Turns out that the person had shoes on from Foot Locker and hadn’t paid for them and the other guy was a Foot Locker employee trying to get the shoes back.

Before we were able to help, the guy had broken free and ran away, unfortunately.

After that event, the rest of the walk home was uneventful.

We had taken food out but couldn’t really be bothered to make anything, so instead we had toasties for dinner!

We watched some videos and relaxed. It been a tiring few weeks.

Place 72 – Day 37: Vancouver,BC – Croque Madame, More Jeans & Homemade Bolognese

Croque Madame

We woke up and Kim got up to make breakfast. We decided we wanted a croque madame, so Kim lovingly made those, with our Norwegian cheese and some delicious ham inside.

Xbox E3 Conference & Jeans

Whilst Kim got ready to go out, Curtis watched the Xbox E3 conference whilst chatting with some friends online.

Kim went out whilst Curtis was still watching this and went to the city to find some jeans. Kim’s jeans had recently broken so she desperately needed some new ones.

Kim found a pair eventually, but they weren’t exactly what she wanted. They will work for now.

Coffee

Curtis went in to town to meet Kim and go for a coffee!

We got there and had a place in mind, but it turns out it was closed, so we had to find somewhere else. We decided on Faubourg Paris.

This French cafe seemed alright but we think it had seen better days and thought it was more upscale then it is.

We each got a cappucino and relaxed whilst we drank it.

Homemade Bolognese

We came back home via a quick stop at the shop and watched some TV as we weren’t quite hungry enough for dinner yet.

After the one episode though, we both became rather peckish, so we started dinner.

Kim made a great homemade bolognese and we had it with pasta and a side salad.

We finished the evening with a beer and some more TV and then got ready for work tomorrow.
