Place 72 – Day 536: Vancouver, BC – 3 Coffees & Arctic Wind

We woke up naturally at a good time which was perfect.

We saw the weather outside and knew we had to head out for a walk!

We had some French toast for breakfast and then got ourselves ready to go out.

When we went out, we stopped at Starbucks for a coffee and walked on.

We walked all the way to ‘peaked pies’ where we picked up some Bundaberg ginger beer as well as a lamington cake for Kim and another coffee for Curtis (his 3rd of the day).

We then walked slowly back home along the seawall, in the Arctic wind that we have here at the moment, which was cold but refreshing!

We got back home and Kim did some work for a while.

Curtis got a pretty bad headache which made him throw up, which wasn’t great, but we think he had too much coffee and that was the cause! We will obviously keep an eye on him, but he felt much better after!

After Kim did a bit more work, we made chicken burgers and had some leftover potatoes from a few days ago which we had with them.

We watched TV and chilled out together after dinner.

Place 72 – Day 521: Vancouver, BC – First Apartment Viewings

We woke up at a really good time, got ourselves showered and had a bit of breakfast.

Right after that, we got right into doing the final clean and tidy, which took us a couple of hours.

We felt the apartment looked incredible once we were done, and the realtor felt the same, which was great!

Curtis welcomed the realtor and showed her to the storage and parking, and then we left and let her do her thing.

We went first to get a coffee/hot chocolate from a place down in Gastown.

The hot chocolate was part of the festival again and was a malt-style hot chocolate. It was nice, but not exactly what Kim was expecting. Curtis got an Americano from there too which was fantastic.

We left here and walked for a bit towards Curtis’ work.

We had a gift card from his work building for the food court next door, so we went there to get some lunch. Unfortunately, the card didn’t work, but we still got the food and went to find a place to eat it.

Whilst we were finding a place, we noticed that Jack Poole Plaza was slightly different with a lot of new random signs around etc.

It turns out, Ryan Reynolds is filming there and making it into another location!

We ate our lunch and then continued with our walk. It’s certainly got colder now and it’s rumoured that it will snow tonight, but we shall see!

We walked for a couple of hours what was really nice (but cold) and then we headed back home to meet the realtor and get our keys back.

We got back in and just relaxed for ages! We even had a nice nap.

For dinner, we had some frozen chili we had made before, so we made that into quesadillas!

We watched a comedy show whilst we ate that and watched a few other things for the evening.

Whilst all the walking was fun today, we do play to relax tomorrow!

Place 72 – Day 444: Vancouver, BC – Pre Birthday Walk

We woke up and had a small-ish breakfast.

We watched a bit of TV and then got ourselves ready. The weather outside was beautiful, so we went out for a walk.

It was cold outside, but the sun was shining and we stopped to get a coffee to warm us up.

We found out today that there are new restrictions within BC for the next two weeks, meaning neither of us can do our sports and a few things are changing, such as both of our office’s closing.

Kim did a little bit of work, writing up a message to tell people that the office was closed.

After we finished our nice long, cool walk, we went out to the shop to get that done.

We got that finished and then when we got home we had leftover curry from yesterday.

We watched Lilo & Stitch after dinner and just chilled out for the rest of the evening.

Tomorrow is Kim’s birthday!

Place 72 – Day 431: Vancouver, BC – Autumn Is Here!

Curtis’ Hockey

Curtis’ team won their game last night, which was good, but there was controversy again!

The other team’s goalie pulled his groin at the end of the 1st period, so the other team had to get a player into the goalie gear and play him in net!

Curtis managed to get an assist and his team won 4-1, but felt bad for the other team a bit and hoped the goalie was ok!

Autumn Is Here!

We went out today for a walk to and around Stanley Park.

We walked a different way to get to an Italian coffee shop which we had some nice coffee from!

We had a long walk for a few hours and it was much colder due to it being autumn now. It was beautiful outside, but much colder.

Katsu

We got home and relaxed for a bit, playing some games, doing some research for our PR & watching some TV.

We then went out to do the shop at around 17:45, which felt much later as it was so dark!

We got the shop done and headed back home, where Kim made a chicken katsu curry.

The chicken was really good, but for some reason the sauce didn’t turn out ask expected, which was a little disappointing.

We chilled out for the evening, it was a little colder too than it has been, so it felt nice and cosy.

Place 72 – Day 430: Vancouver, BC – Frozen II & PR Research

Needed Sleep

We woke up pretty late today but we really needed the sleep!

We felt pretty great this morning, but it was a little cold this morning for the first time in a while.

We had more cinnamon rolls this morning which were delicious as always, and watched a bit of TV.

Belgian Cafe & Walk

Once we got ourselves ready we went down to the Belgian cafe that Kim went to yesterday and got ourselves some coffee! Curtis had a cappuccino and Kim had a mocha, as she did yesterday. These coffees were great!

We went for a bit of a walk along the sea wall, in the newly cold weather here in Vancouver.

We walked back home and once we got back we did a bit of research for how to get permanent residence here in Vancouver so we can stay for another year. Our plans have changed as we did plan to leave in May but due to a few different circumstances we are looking to stay for a bit, but our current visa ends in May.

Sausage & Mash

We had sausages (Curtis had pork and Kim had chicken) and mash for dinner, along with Yorkshire puddings and gravy.

We ate this and watched a bit of TV.

Hockey, Frozen II & More Research

Curtis has a hockey game tonight, so he’ll be heading off to that later today, and Kim plans to watch Frozen II, as well as do a lot more research on the PR.

Place 86 – Day 3: Comox, BC – Snowboarding & Spare Tyre!

Snowboarding

We were up at 07:00 to get up to the mountain at a good time.

Brody drove up to Mount Washington and there wasn’t too many people there when we arrived.

We got our snow gear on and walked up to the slopes!

Neither of us have done skiing or snowboarding before, so we were in new territory.

The slopes were 50% off for the day and we just needed a pass for the easy slopes. We got a half day pass each, which cost us around $15 each…Crazy cheap!

We got started but not very well. Brody was patient with us and taught us well, but it took us some time to get used to it.

We eventually got down the first bit of the mountain which is basically the ‘highway’ to get to a bunch of different slopes.

We went down there and headed into the easy slopes. These take you up on a conveyor, which makes things a lot easier than a ski lift!

We got to the top of the mountain and had some terrific views. The weather was impeccable today, with no cloud whatsoever!

We got to about halfway down, very slowly, but Kim had started figuring out some good techniques.

We got up to the next section and decided we would just stick with that short section of the mountain, which was also great as there wasn’t many people there.

We headed back to the main area, but you have to snowboard down on a fairly flat trail, which crossed over some of the mountain, so people were flying around at all directions.

Curtis got stuck and couldn’t get moving again on the flat part, so had to shimmy his way to the end.

At the end, there’s a large hill that you have to go down. Kim got down fairly easy, but Curtis did struggle a little, taking quite a while and getting a little frustrated.

We bought a drink and ditched some clothes and then went right back up to our preferred part of the mountain.

Kim started to really get the hang of it and gave Curtis some good pointers which helped him and before we knew it we were both doing pretty well.

Kim did a couple of runs from the top of the mountain all the way to the bottom which she felt great about.

We ended up spending way more time than the 1\2 day there, pretty much going non stop from 08:45 to 14:30!

We were tired and hurting but had a great time. We feel like we’d really like to go again and improve some more.

Light Snack

We got a light snack at a pub with Brody and some of his friends and Curtis got a well deserved beer too.

We then headed back to Brody’s place and got showered and changed before hitting the road to leave!

Puncture!

We made it a bit down the road and the tyre pressure light came on and it turned out we had a very flat tyre! We had filled it with air last night so we knew it must have an issue.

We started to get the spare tyre and jack from the back of the car but the jack was very rusted on so the gas station we were at gave us a few things to get it out.

The guy was really nice and gave us a bit of help with it and we were able to get that changed fairly quick (it was mostly Kim).

Back to Vancouver

We headed down to Nanaimo to catch the ferry, after our quick pitstop to change our tyre! We took it slow and made it with plenty of time.

We went for a walk and got some food and then headed back to the car and got onto the ferry.

The sailing was easy and then we got to the other side and drove back to Vancouver, which didn’t take long.

It was an amazing weekend but it’ll be nice to be home and back in our own bed.

Place 72 – Day 154: Vancouver, BC – The Trek To Work

Trek To Work

We had a bit of a trek to work this morning as the snow had really picked up overnight and there was a lot of it on the ground!

It took us a while to navigate through the snow to work, but we got there eventually with no issues.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was feeling quite a bit better today. He was fairly busy with tickets and his small project in the morning, but come the afternoon it was pretty quiet.

Curtis trudged home in all the snow, but it had luckily stopped snowing as heavy as it was from 14:00-16:00.

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim had a call meeting with a vendor. It was really good and they covered everything and asked a bunch of questions.
After the meeting Kim worked on a few smaller administration tasks and spent some time listening to her voicemail.

She then popped out with the rest of her team to grab some lunch, they all ate at their desks but Kim sat in the kitchen and ate. Shortly after this Kim and her teammate went out and got hot chocolate and doughnuts and set that up for the very empty office.
Kim then ordered some breakfast for the meeting that is happening on Friday and later she tidied up the boardroom after a day long meeting left.

Kim stopped by Starbucks to get a coffee for herself and the other lady on front desk as there is a lot of snow and it is cold! When she arrived Kim was invited to take part in a class so she did and she had a great time! It was a lyrical class and the routine was to Bruises by Lewis Capaldi and it was beautiful. It was so flowly and easy to follow!

Evening

Curtis did nothing all evening, just played games and watched some YouTube videos.

Kim went out to training as well as to help out there! She was out for a few hours and had to walk there and back as she would normally drive but it was a bit too snowy for that, so easier to drive.

Once Kim got back, we relaxed together, watched a bit of TV and went to bed.

Place 72 – Day 152: Vancouver, BC – Plenty More Snow

Snow

We woke up to even more snow this morning. This was cool, except for the fact the bridge we walk on was completely frozen so we had to walk carefully on the way to work.

Curtis has had quite a bad cold since yesterday, so the -8 temperature didn’t help on the way to work!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis continued to feel rotten all day, but did get a lot done. He fixed a couple of other migrations that were causing him problems, so he got those completed.

He also got a lot of tickets done and had a team meeting.

At 16:00, Curtis left the office to head home and relax as he really wasn’t feeling great.

Kim’s Day

Kim caught up on emails from the weekend and saved a few invoices to start her day.

Just before 10 Kim headed out to look for mini wine glasses and a few bottles of bubbly for a celebration in the morning. When she got back she set it up and all the offices in the company celebrated! It was a really fun morning!

Kim then spent some of her morning trying to.fix an issue with someone’s profile on the travel booking site. After that she had to sort out the postage machine, which also required her calling for support for that!

After both of these Kim ran a raffle to win one of two broken full espresso coffee machines! To ensure fairness Kim had someone else draw out the names, which was lucky as one of her colleagues won!

Kim then spent some time remaking the floor plan as it didn’t save from last time.

She then had a chat with a colleague from a different team in regards to their desk set up, so Kim made a few adjustments and spent some time researching other things that may be able to help!

On the way home Kim stopped at a few shops, one was to pick up some essential oils to put into the humidifier to help Curtis with his cold!

Weekly Clean!

We did our weekly clean this evening, after Kim got home from doing a bit of shopping.

Kim then made a veggie bolognese which was excellent.

We watched some TV and Curtis relaxed and slept at a good time with hopes that he’ll be better tomorrow as he has a hockey game!

Place 72 – Day 151: Vancouver, BC – Overnight Snow

Overnight Snow

We woke up this morning to some snow! We didn’t even know it had snowed overnight until we went outside.

We had our breakfast and then left the apartment, after getting ready, to get some shopping done.

We went to Winners first and got Kim some more leggings and took back her snow trousers she bought as she got some better ones.

We left here and went for a coffee.

After coffee, we went to the supermarket and got food for the week and a few other things, such as cold and flu pills for Curtis as he is coming down with a cold!

We came back home and Curtis watched the (terrible) leafs game and then we had the remainder of the leftover veggie chilli with rice for dinner whilst watching some TV. Curtis is hoping he’s feeling better tomorrow!
