Place 72 – Day 375: Vancouver, BC – Vancouver Office Fun Day!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a quick chat in the morning with a colleague to go over something and do some testing.

After that, Curtis has a 1 on 1 which was quick, and then he had his daily team meeting.

When that meeting was done, Curtis had some tickets to do and then he had some lunch.

Once lunch was done, the afternoon was very quiet.

Curtis was able to get some admin done and he did a few tickets as well.

Kim’s Day

Kim went through and made some changes to the quizzes and added better answer options.

Later in the morning Kim and her colleague popped out to pick up some ice and snacks for the summer party later. They then had a quick check of a few questions and other things. Then her colleague had the great idea of making fun backgrounds using the plants in the office. So Kim grabbed all the plants and they both decorated them and they looked amazing!

Then the party started! Kim followed along with the cocktail making and made a lovely mojito. After that they went straight into the quizzes. Same for rounds, in the media, in the news, company history and our people. There were a few times where people werent happy that their answer didn’t get accepted or autocorrect changed it, but it was so fun!

Then into the evening a few people played a few rounds of jackbox before just having a chat. After that Kim made most of the our people quiz for the final party, she just has to add a few answers for 6 rounds, so thats nice and easy!

Evening

Kim was home late, again, as expected, but today we had some leftovers that we defrosted.

We watched a bit of TV again and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 151: Vancouver, BC – Free Cocktail!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had some bad new relating to his project this morning, and it only got worse!

The migration started early today, so it was a lot of answering questions etc regarding that.

Curtis did a lot of tickets today, though, which he feels he hasn’t done much of in the last few weeks, so it was quite nice to get back to it.

There were a few things he had to do using PowerShell, which is similar to coding, so it was good to use his brain for that.

In the afternoon, there was an environment quiz, which Curtis wasn’t part of, but as a participation prize there were cocktails! Curtis got one as they were spare, so that was a win!

He spent some time watching some people try and open a wine bottle without a bottle opening. It was very entertaining!

Curtis left for the day and met with Kim to walk home.

Kim’s Day

Kim and her colleague have really set aside time to get the nittygritty things done. Most of Kims morning was spent in a Health and Safety meeting going over the communications, plans for certain meetings and drawing up a timeline of when we want to get things done for. It was a great meeting and followed on nicely from the others that have happened previously.

Kim then spent a good amount of time going back over checked, but not completed, emails and completing them. This involved saving a lot of invoices.

After lunch Kim chopped up some melon for everyone to enjoy.

In the afternoon Kim continued with her catch up but also booked some travel for an incoming new starter so that kept kim entertained for a while.

In the mid afternoon Kim got a craving for a doughnut so she nipped out, picked up a box of 6 and 2 things of lemon loaf for her and the team to enjoy. Then they all came to her desk and sneakily munched on nice Tims doughnuts before going back to work! It was a nice way to hang out for a few mintues!

Positive Training!

Our evening was fairly standard. Kim went off to training but further away today. Curtis didn’t really do anything whilst Kim was out.

Kim wasn’t sure if training would be worth it, but it really was! She is starting to fill in the gaps and elongate combinations to make sense!

Once Kim got back, we watched Bake Off and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 86: Vancouver, BC – Long Walks, Granville Island & Fancy Dinner

Long Walks

We woke up fairly early, had breakfast and then did some chores around the apartment.

After we finished, we walked down to meet Linda at her hotel.

It was hot again today, but we decided to walk along the seawall. We walked all the way to the seawall from the hotel and then down to the seabus where we caught it to Graville Island.

When we got there, we scoped out a coffee place once we found one, all three of us got an iced latte.

We had a bit of a wander around but then wanted to get out of the crowds, so we continued around the seawall and towards our apartment.

We stopped in at our apartment to have a sit down and some water as well as to show Linda around.

We had only been walking around for about 1.5 hours in total, even though it felt like a lot more!

We relaxed here for a couple of hours but all started to fall asleep so thought it would be best if we went outside again.

We went for a walk down to the city, to the hotel Linda is staying in, where we had a dinner reservation.

Amazing Dinner

Kim had been to this restaurant with work before and knew it was tremendous so she recommended that we go.

We got there at 16:30 but our table was booked for 17:00. We were so hungry after all our walking, so we decided we would sit and have dinner then!

We got sat and got a cocktail each. Kim and Linda had a Piña Colada and Curtis had an Old fashioned.

We waited a little bit but then ordered our starters. We had chicken wings, amazing sourdough with butter and honey as well as some tempura salmon.

The salmon wasn’t great, but everything else was so good. (We forgot to get photos of that as we were so hungry!).

For mains, we got Korean chicken, a salad and mac & cheese. All of these were great, but the mac and cheese was phenomenal.

We had such a great night and whilst we were full, all three of us shared a dessert because it would be rude not to.

We got a chocolate mousse with lemon creme and some ice cream of some sort and it was incredible, but we are glad we only got the one!

We said goodbye to Linda as she leaves early tomorrow and we waddled home.

Once we got back, we watched some TV, did some admin and had an early night. It’s been a great weekend, but we are tired!

Place 72 – Day 65: Vancouver, BC – Afternoon Cocktails

Vancouver Flea Market

We wanted to go to the Vancouver flea market today to have a look around. This place was a 30 minute walk from home. The weather wasn’t great but we risked a walk anyway.

The flea market is near the train station, so we walked to there, and a little bit beyond, to get to it.

Once we got there, it looked a bit dodgy, and then there was an entry fee!

We quickly changed our minds and walked towards the city instead.

Afternoon Cocktails

We decided to stop at a place we walk past on the way to and from work for a coffee.

We went in and then realised it was a lot more fancy then we thought!

We were going to have coffee, but then we were informed it was happy hour, so we thought we better have cocktails.

Curtis got a Moscow Mule and Kim got a frozen slushy type drink which had red wine in it.

We spent a while here just chatting and then finally headed back towards home.

We had nothing planned for dinner, so we grabbed some spaghetti, mushrooms and alfredo sauce and had that along with some incredible French bagette (toasted with olive oil and balsamic) and a side salad.

We watched TV and played some games and then headed to bed at a good time.

Place 77 – Day 3: Las Vegas,NV – Mob Museum & Winning Money!

Breakfast & Pool

We didn’t really have any plans for the day today, so we got up and found some breakfast. We went to Dunkin’ Donuts for a bagel and then went back to the room to get ready for the day.We got ready and wanted to go and chill by the pool for a little bit, so we got ready to do that and headed there.We got to the pool and it was absolutely rammed, so we had to say goodbye to the pool and we went out to the Mob Museum instead, via Starbucks.

We had been recommend the mob museum by a few people, so we had to check it out.We paid for an extra tour, rather than just the regular tour and we’ll get to that part shortly.The museum was a lot of reading, but we pretty interesting. It talks about the mob, prohibition and how Vegas became what it is today.There was many an artifact in this museum, including the above Al Capone revolver and there was the wall of which the Valentine’s day massacre took place.

Speakeasy & Distillery Tour

We left the main exhibit at a perfect time and went down to the basement where there was a speakeasy and we had a Distillery tour booked!The speakeasy had a great vibe and looked pretty authentic.We got taken into a hidden area for our tour which is where the distillery is.We were given some history, stories and information before trying some of the local wares. The Distillery makes moonshine, which we tasted at 100% proof. This was pretty strong but we didn’t mind the flavour.We then tried a vodka, which was good quality and very nice.After this, we had a cocktail made with moonshine, which had a lot of ginger and other spices in it. This was WAY too ginger-y for us, and just burned our tongues and throats.We then tried a fireball-esque drink which was quite nice.That was the end of the tour, but not the end of drinks!We got a drink each at the speakeasy bar. Curtis got an old fashioned and Kim an espresso martini.Curtis’ drink was fancy and came inside a book!

Pizza Hut

We left the speakeasy and went back to the room to relax a little.We relaxed for a little bit and then got hungry, so we walked for 30 minutes to get a Pizza Hut, but got a Lyft back.The pizza was pretty good!

Gambling (just a little)

We decided after dinner that we would try our hand at a little gambling.We went to a hotel and changed a $5 to 5 $1 notes, so we could bet a small amount only.We started on a 25c slot machine and won $1.10 on that before we moved on to a few $1 machines.

We used our $1.10 on the first $1 machine and won $15 on our first go on a $1 machine! We had a couple of $1 left, so we used them up but still walked away with $10 profit!Kim rewarded herself with a donut and then we headed back to get packing.We leave Vegas tomorrow, at least for now!
