Place 72 – Day 982: Vancouver, BC – full Clean & A Beach Swim!

We woke up at a pretty good time and had croissants for breakfast again.

Once we ate breakfast and got ready, we did a full clean of the apartment, which felt great to get done, but it was a little warm out to do that!

We had to have another shower after that and then we went out for a walk to the beach. We stopped off for coffee and at Subway to get a snack and then we walked to the beach.

We sat in the shade on the grass and ate our snacks and just relaxed for a bit, cooling down.

We walked on for a bit and then stopped at the beach. Kim went for a little swim/soak which she was really looking forward to! It was pretty cold, but nice compared to the outside heat.

Once we were done there, we walked back home and then went out to do the weekly shop.

Curtis is back to eating solid food now, so we could buy actual food!

We got back home and Kim made Chinese style chicken with rice and we relaxed for the evening, getting ready to work again tomorrow after a really great long weekend.

Place 72 – Day 978: Vancouver, BC – In Office Organisation

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went to this office when he was ready this morning. He woke up with pretty bad pain again this morning from his mouth, so he booked an appointment to see the dentist to get everything checked out.

He got to the office and emptied out the IT storage room. He then built a few shelves and put them in there, so there is more storage areas!

The next step was to start sorting everything into boxes. Curtis had to leave part way through this and head to the dentist.

Curtis actually had a bit of dry socket on one side so the dentist cleaned it up and put some fluid in there that numbed it and it had some meds in it too, which should help. It was good that Curtis went in today as it was just the start of the issue, so all should be good now!

Curtis got back home and did some work and then had some lunch with Kim.

Curtis had a quick team meeting that was meant to last much longer, but didn’t.

He finished the day completing an offboard which seemed to take a while!

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim had a donut chat with someone she hadn’t met before! It was so great to say hello and get to know him. She then had a meeting to see where she can provide support.

Kim then joined a meeting to go over any questions a candidate may have about their offer. It was an enjoyable call and then right at the end the person let Kim and her colleague off the hook and confirmed that they would be signing and joining the company. It was such wonderful news and everyone was over the moon!

Kim then joined the weekly departments meeting, but she also built her new chair while some discussions were going on. After that call Kim joined the weekly recruitment meeting.

In the early afternoon Kim joined an interview and then the post interview chat to discuss next steps and then to finish the day Kim had a couple of calls with different teammates. It was a great way to end the day.

Evening

Kim went to pole dancing in the evening and once Kim got back home, we both had some food and then hung out for the rest of the night! We watched the Bo Burnham special, Inside, on Netflix which was good!

Curtis has tomorrow and Monday off, so nice relaxation time. Kim will be working a bit tomorrow but not Monday!

Place 72 – Day 434: Vancouver, BC – Ripped Jeans!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting fairly early, which was a 1 on 1, and then he had a team meeting after that.

After that, he did tickets for most of the day and then after lunch he walked down to the office.

Once at the office, Curtis checked on a few things and then got some things together and went and waited down in the lobby for someone who was picking up a chair and a few other items.

Once the person picked up the items, Curtis walked back home.

For the rest of the afternoon, Curtis completed an offboard.

Kim’s Day

Kim popped out to get a couple of coffees in the morning and then joined Curtis for lunch.

In the afternoon Kim filled in one more form for her new job and then went out to buy some jeans! All of Kim jeans are on the brink of ripping so its time to replace. Maybe she will try to upcyle the jeans!

She drove to the shopping centre and went to H&M, but didn’t find anything she liked so Kim decided to try Levis. She found a couple of pairs that she liked so grabbed them and then headed home.

Evening

We had some chicken egg fried rice for dinner, which was delicious, and we cleaned the apartment after that, too.

We also figured out how to correctly ‘seal’ and clean our wok, as it had a weird smell to it.

Curtis had a hockey game tonight, so that’s where his evening ends, and Kim will be doing some relaxing whilst he is out.

Place 72 – Day 432: Vancouver, BC – Full Bathroom Clean

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting at 10:30, so did a bit of work before that.

The meeting was good and after that he did some more tickets.

In the afternoon, Curtis setup accounts for a new starter and did some other tickets, too.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent most of the day doing a deep clean of the bathroom. We noticed it needed to be cleaned, so Kim said she wanted to do it during the day whilst Curtis is working.

This took a couple of hours and then Kim did some more research for the permanent residency we need to get and we now know a little more about what is required and we’ve sent off some emails we need to send to get some information and items.

Risotto

Kim wanted to make some risotto, so she had to go and get some wine as well as some other things for the risotto, such as parmesan cheese.

Kim made the risotto and we watched some TV whilst we ate.

We then watched a Netflix show about designing homes, which is something we love to watch!

Kim had to do her background check for her new job so she did that and we chilled out after that.

Place 72 – Day 308: Vancouver, BC – A New Bed…Again!

A New Bed

We woke up pretty late, around 12:00, but we had a great sleep!

We had some french toast for breakfast and then got ready for the day.

We had finally got sick of the bed being broken (yes, it broke in around a month or two, which is just not acceptable for a brand new bed!) So it was time to get yet another.

Kim found a used one on Facebook for a pretty good price, so she headed out to buy that. She had to go alone as there wouldn’t be enough room in the car for both of us!

We got the bed home (it was just 5 minutes away) and took it up to the apartment.

We dismantled the old bed, taking pictures of it along the way to send to the company we bought it from, and once we did that we built the new one.

Luckily, the way we received it was very easy to chuck together, so didn’t take us long.

Cleaning Up Around The Place

We took the opportunity to clear a few things out and tidy up around the place.

We sorted out the cupboard in the bedroom and vacuumed and cleaned all around the apartment.

Curtis took down the organic bin which took a very long time as the elevators were full (the current limit is 2 people, as it should be, so it takes a little longer).

After that, we made the new bed and it seems much, much better and much nicer!

We then got pretty hungry, so did some laundry and then made food.

An Important Film

We had leftover homemade Mexican chicken in the freezer, so we had that with some rice.

We watched the film American Son in the evening, which is a very relevant film for the current climate, regarding the Black Lives Matter movement, thoughts towards police officers and that kind of thing. Very hard hitting but worth a watch for sure.

We then watched some comedy and other TV shows for the rest of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 289: Vancouver, BC – New Cleaning Tools

Curtis’ Day

Curtis started the day with some admin and then had a security risk to deal with.

He spent over an hour dealing with the security risk, but it was interesting for him!

He was able to get the risk resolved which was excellent.

He then had a discussion with someone around some requirements they have for a piece of software which is currently not supported. He had to find out why they wish to use it and then discuss with his team.

He had his daily team meeting as well and he also did some tickets.

After that, it was time for the monthly questions with one of the top team leads who answers everyone’s questions about the overall team (which encapsulates a lot of teams).

We both had lunch together, which was really nice, and then got back to work.

Curtis had a meeting in the afternoon which was to start another project, and he is the Business Analyst on this one.

He was able to get some answers to some questions he needed which was excellent.

Curtis did some admin for the project after that and even got some training done!

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with a game of Cribbage and her pair nearly won, they were up the whole game! Then they didn’t, but never mind! There are still two more games to play!

Shortly after this, and doing some admin, Kim joined a team meeting. It was great to talk to everyone and see how they were all doing after the weekend. They then moved on to the team project and gave updates as to where everyone is with their stuff.

After the meeting Kim did a little admin and then started working on the post project she has. She had to call FedEx and that took a while but it was a very productive call and she was able to arrange a pickup that she had been struggling with online, so that was a great success. Kim sent a couple a follow emails. Even after lunch Kim was still working on this, it took up most of her day! Towards the end if the day she sent out a few chaser emails related to this as well.

As the day finished Kim worked a little on the team project.

New Cleaning Tools!

When we went to the shop on Sunday morning, we got a swiffer to clean the floor with as we have only hard floors now, so we needed something to work alongside our vacuum that would actually wash the floor.

Once finishing work, we put it to the test and cleaned all the floors in the apartment, which made them look much better!

After that, Kim made some dinner! She made chicken in a white wine/cheese style sauce with mushrooms, potatoes, peas, broccoli and carrots. Very delicious!

We watched some TV and Kim tried playing COD: Warzone for the first time!

Place 72 – Day 284: Vancouver, BC – Hopefully The Last Deep Clean!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis did a lot of work on his Hackathon project today! It’s that time again, and he is in the same team as last time, which was the winning team, of course!

The idea has really got some legs now, thanks to multiple meetings during the day and the wonderful developer getting it built out.

Curtis did a few of the admin things for that and a few tickets around this. He also attended the weekly Zoom webinar.

Curtis did some work around some requested approvals and he also showed his team what to look for and how to approve these correctly.

Curtis did a bunch more work on the Hackathon and some more meetings for it and then was done for the day!

Kim’s Day

Kim woke up and then stressed thinking that she was 15 mintues late for the midweek catch up, this would have been the case on most days but it turns out that today Kim was 45 minutes late for a resilience and mindfulness webinar, so that wasn’t great! Luckily it was voluntary and recorded so Kim can catch up on it.

She then got ready for the midweek catchup and had a lovely chat with people from the Vancouver and Toronto offices. It was great!

Kim then spent some time catching up on emails and general admin. She also wrote some notes for upcoming meeting and plans. Mid morning Kim jumped on a call with a colleague to talk about the plans for the kitchen, Kim has already looked into getting a new dishwasher but they are also looking into replacing something else too. After this call Kim spent a while looking for things that are needed in the office.

In the afternoon Kim had her 1-1 and it went well. For the rest of the afternoon Kim continued shopping for things that they need in the office.

Hopefully The Last Deep Clean

We left home right after finishing work and went to the old apartment, with a stop at the liquor store and Home Depot for supplies.

We had a long list of things we needed to do, so we got right on it.

Most of it was easy stuff, but the one main thing that was a pain was the oven! It was just not getting clean! We tried many different techniques but none seemed to help. Due to this, we think we need to pay someone to come and clean it!

We got everything else done though and drove back home.

We showered when we got home and then ordered a McDonald’s for dinner as we were too tired and couldn’t really be bothered to make anything that late.

We ate that and then had some of the new whiskey we bought to wind down the evening with some TV.

Place 72 – Day 221: Vancouver, BC – Early Morning Walk

Early Morning Walk

We were up at 07:00 and right out for our morning walk.

Kim had to start work early today, so we made sure we had plenty of time to walk and then get working.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a productive morning, which was really good and made it go fast!

He had his daily team meeting and then right after had a project meeting for an hour.

After lunch, Curtis had another project meeting for an hour and then then afternoon was pretty quiet.

He did get a message around 16:00 asking for some help, so he jumped on a Zoom call and helped the person out, which was really good.

Kim’s Day

Kim has set up a social call where everyone from all 3 offices can join in so she set that up and facilitated it. It went so well! Everyone relaxed and had a great catch up. Just after this Kim joined the company wide meeting.

She spent most of her morning saving invoices and sorting out communications for things. She invites some people to a progress tracker that she made for people to pick a goal and support each other with it over the coming weeks.

After lunch Kim worked on and completed her quiz! She also had a call with her colleague where she was given a mini project! So thats great!

At the end of the day Kim spent some time trying to work out a charge that had been put on a credit card. she had to reach out to a hotel, and then to people within the office! By the end of it all, the charge was fair, so thats great!

Chilled Evening

We did get some chores done, cleaning down the countertops and getting some vacuuming done.

We had a day off from working out as our app said to do so, so we just had leftovers for dinner instead and watched TV.

Place 72 – Day 188: Vancouver, BC – Dentist, Team Building & PM Course!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went to work but left after 30 minutes or so to walk to the dentist.

This a much different experience from the UK. You get a lot of x-rays as well as a full clean and exam in which they explain a lot about your teeth and go through possible treatments they think you should have.

This was 2 hours long, but free under insurance! Curtis has to go back Tuesday for some more cleaning, though.

Curtis got back to work and got something done quickly and then had a team building exercise. This involved playing some games as a team and having a laugh. This was great fun for Curtis and his team and is something they should do regularly.

Curtis got a few project things done for the next couple of hours and then had some drinks with people at the office.

It felt like a very short say for Curtis, but that’s a good thing for a Friday.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent her day at a project management exam prep course. She learnt a lot and feels really excited about the rest of the course and now has a LOT of reading and studying to do.

Curry & Beer

We really fancied curry and beer for dinner tonight, so we rushed home to have that.

We ordered from Indian Junction as usual and awaited the food.

We chatted about our day and Kim’s exciting course she is taking and then our food arrived!

We ate that and watched some TV for the evening.

We are looking forward to a chill weekend.

Place 72 – Day 152: Vancouver, BC – Plenty More Snow

Snow

We woke up to even more snow this morning. This was cool, except for the fact the bridge we walk on was completely frozen so we had to walk carefully on the way to work.

Curtis has had quite a bad cold since yesterday, so the -8 temperature didn’t help on the way to work!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis continued to feel rotten all day, but did get a lot done. He fixed a couple of other migrations that were causing him problems, so he got those completed.

He also got a lot of tickets done and had a team meeting.

At 16:00, Curtis left the office to head home and relax as he really wasn’t feeling great.

Kim’s Day

Kim caught up on emails from the weekend and saved a few invoices to start her day.

Just before 10 Kim headed out to look for mini wine glasses and a few bottles of bubbly for a celebration in the morning. When she got back she set it up and all the offices in the company celebrated! It was a really fun morning!

Kim then spent some of her morning trying to.fix an issue with someone’s profile on the travel booking site. After that she had to sort out the postage machine, which also required her calling for support for that!

After both of these Kim ran a raffle to win one of two broken full espresso coffee machines! To ensure fairness Kim had someone else draw out the names, which was lucky as one of her colleagues won!

Kim then spent some time remaking the floor plan as it didn’t save from last time.

She then had a chat with a colleague from a different team in regards to their desk set up, so Kim made a few adjustments and spent some time researching other things that may be able to help!

On the way home Kim stopped at a few shops, one was to pick up some essential oils to put into the humidifier to help Curtis with his cold!

Weekly Clean!

We did our weekly clean this evening, after Kim got home from doing a bit of shopping.

Kim then made a veggie bolognese which was excellent.

We watched some TV and Curtis relaxed and slept at a good time with hopes that he’ll be better tomorrow as he has a hockey game!
