Place 72 – Day 181: Vancouver, BC – 3 Year Wedding Anniversary!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had his whole day mapped out on his calendar by 10:00!

After his usual admin and team catch up, Curtis started the day setting up a laptop remotely for someone in Charlotte.

Once that laptop was complete, an hour or so later, Curtis got started on a laptop he needed to setup in his office.

Along the way, he was claiming some tickets and completing some quick ones too.

The afternoon consisted of completing said tickets he took earlier in the day as well as doing some research for some more challenging tickets and a ticket in which someone had requested an alternative software to a supported software at the company.

Curtis left the office and headed to meet Kim.

Kim’s Day

Today Kim did the Wiki project. That’s about it really. She had her weekly catch up in the morning with her colleague and the focused on the the Wiki project for the day.

She removed old pages and condensed information. She also booked a dentist appointment and sorted out her expenses for her glasses in the morning.

3 Year Wedding Anniversary!

Today is our 3 year wedding anniversary!

We celebrated with our meal on Saturday, but we celebrated a little more this evening, too!

We met after work and went for a cheap but nice Thai dinner not far from Kim’s workplace.

After our dinner, we had plenty of time to kill, so we went for a drink and dessert at Cactus Club.

We each got an espresso martini, which wasn’t very nice, and Kim got a chocolate lava cake.

We sat here for a bit until we had to leave to head to the cinema!

We watched the film The Gentleman, which is a new UK gangster film. This was really, really good, though it was very rude!

The Gentleman

Our Rating:- 10/10

We left here and headed home, after a really good night! We relaxed for a bit more with some wine and then headed to bed.

A perfect Tuesday night and a perfect anniversary day!

Place 72 – Day 158: Vancouver, BC – Hot Chocolate & Jojo Rabbit

Shopping

We had our breakfast then got ready to head out.

We went out to get some stuff for the week at the shop.

We weren’t out at the shop for too long, so when we got back we decided we wanted to go to the cinema!

Hot Chocolate & Jojo Rabbit

We had been talking about watching Jojo Rabbit for a while, so we booked in to see that.

We didn’t have anything to do until that time, so we walked down to the Lindt store in the city to get a hot chocolate! It was pretty nice, though the definitely burned the milk.

This used enough time before the film, so we then walked to the cinema.

We got to the cinema very early so queued for some drinks and then secured seats, which was lucky as it was very busy!

We really enjoyed the film! We thought it was the perfect blend of comedy, story telling & drama. Really good film, 10/10!

Jojo Rabbit

Our Rating:- 10/10

We came home after the film and just chilled out. We had some leftovers for dinner, watched some TV and got an early night.

Curtis has an exciting delivery coming tomorrow!

Place 70 – Day 30: Victoria, BC – Dinner at The Empress

Breakfast

We went for breakfast at Vista 18, which we went to the previous time we were here with Linda.

The food was great as it was before. Curtis had a standard breakfast with ham, eggs and home fries, as well as some cranberry sourdough which was the best part of the breakfast!

Linda had an omelette and Kim had a waffle with chocolate and banana.

Jumanji

We finished up with breakfast and then walked down to the cinema to watch Jumanji! We wanted a simple, easy to watch film, so that was what we chose.

We had a lot of space each, too, with recliner seating.Overall, the film was funny, but not as good as the first one.

Jumanji: The Next Level

Our Rating:- 7/10

Flowers

We went to Winners for a bit for Kim to get some tops and then we went back home.

Kim went to get ‘something’ and when she came back, it was the flowers we had bought for Linda from her favourite florist!

Linda really likes these, which we are glad about.

Curtis watched hockey for a bit before we left to go to dinner.

Dinner at The Empress

We went for dinner at The Q at The Empress. The Empress is an old beautiful (expensive!) hotel here in Victoria and we had always said we should go for food sometime.

Linda had been here for food recently and said it was very good, so we absolutely agreed when she mentioned going there!

The staff were incredibly kind and hospitable, which is the first thing we noticed. We got a drink each and then perused the menu.

Kim decided on a rack of lamb whilst Curtis went for white wine braised rabbit. Linda chose the beef tenderloin.

The rabbit (above)

Kim’s rack of lamb

Our meals were all terrific. Huge flavour, richness but perfectly balanced. We had dessert, too!

Curtis and Linda had the hazelnut and chocolate tart whilst Kim had a vanilla mille-feuille.

The meal overall was a 10/10, service included!

We had another terrific day, and we ended it with some more baileys…because it Christmas!

Place72 – Day 173: Vancouver, BC – Fancy Dinner

Helping A Friend

We woke up and had a nice cooked breakfast of scrambled eggs, mushrooms, toast and hash browns.

After we got ready, Kim went out to meet a friend who pulled a hamstring, so she could give her something to help with the pain.

Modus Coffee

Kim got back and we went out for some coffee!

We went to Modus coffee which is meant to be pretty good.

We got a really nice mug, which was great. Kim got what was called a ‘real’ cappucino, which is tiny and Curtis wanted a bigger coffee so he got a latte.

The latte looked great and was pretty tasty, but Curtis likes it stronger. Kim’s cappucino was very bitter, so Curtis drank it instead!

Cinema Time!

We took the train out to Metropolis so we could go to the cinema.

We went to watch Zombieland: Double Tap as we really enjoyed the first one so wanted to see if the second lived up to it.

We thought that it was just as good as the first, really funny, a good amount of action and great animation/effects.

Zombieland: Double Tap

Our Rating:- 9/10

Fancy Dinner

On the walk back from the train station, we both got some amazing photos of the city!

We got back home and had a really nice fancy dinner of cheese, wine, crackers, relish and meats! It was really nice and relaxed, which was great.

We watched some TV and then got ready for work tomorrow before heading to bed.

Place 72 – Day 140: Vancouver, BC – A Kid’s Birthday Party, Cinema & Nando’s!

A Kid’s Birthday Party

We woke up a little later today, but had no plans and it was meant to be raining, so we didn’t care!

We watched some TV for a couple of hours and then Kim got ready to head out. Whilst she was doing that, she was also trying to unblock the shower, which was a fun game! Curtis did some laundry and then Kim was ready to head out.

Kim set off to head to her colleagues kids birthday party! It is possible that Kim will babysit on occasion and this is a great way for the little one to meet Kim again as she came to the summer party.

The party was great fun, it was at a house that is a none profit organisation with a nice play space downstairs and upstairs has 2 lounges and a kitchen. Perfect for parent groups and parties.

The party lasted 2 hours and Kim had a great chat with the hosts family and ate pizza! One of the younger couples she was talking to for the party then offered her a lift to the cinema, so that saved Kim from walking in the rain!

Hustlers

We met at the cinema to have a mini date night!

We got some popcorn and a drink and then headed up to the screen.

There was no assigned seating, so we had to get our seats and were able to get some good ones!

We watched the film Hustlers, which we thought was OK, but nothing outstanding.

Hustlers

Our Rating:- 6.5/10

We left the cinema and went for eye cheeky Nando’s!

Nando’s

We wanted to see how it stacked up here compared to the UK, and it was alright.

The service was bad and the specific restaurant we were in was gross, but the food was alright! Curtis got a chicken leg (medium) with wedges and Kim got a chicken burger with corn on the cob.

Both were pretty good and Kim even said ‘the burger is almost comparable to the UK‘, so it can’t have been all that bad.

We walked back home, watched Vikings and headed to bed!

Place 72 – Day 111: Vancouver, BC – Ice Skating & Lion King

Ice Skating

We got up at 11:00, which was a great sleep in for us.We had breakfast and then got ready for the day.Curtis wanted to go ice skating to test the ice skates he bought before the hockey season starts just to see if they fit right, he can skate in them etc.We took the car for its first drive, driving out to the Botany 8-Rinks arena which took us about 25 minutes. The car drives great and we didn’t crash, which is a positive. We got to the rink and paid just $5 each for 1.5 hours of skating as well as $3 for some skates for Kim.The arena has 8 rinks, surprisingly, and we were on the figure skating rink. There weren’t too many people there and we were able to get our skating on!

We had a really good time but only did about an hour as we got a bit tired. Curtis’ skates are a little stiff, which is expected with higher end skates, but he was able to skate really well in them, so he is hoping they will work great when the season starts.

Coffee & Shopping

We drove from the rink to Metropolis, just 10 minutes down the road.We parked in the free underground parking and then went in and headed right to Starbucks. We each got a caramel iced latte and just sat and relaxed for a bit. After that, we bought cinema tickets for the Lion King and then went to a few shops before the film started.Kim needed to get some items for exercise, so we found some of those which was successful.

The Lion King

We got into the cinema just in time for the trailers and then watched the Lion King.We thought the animation of the film was amazing and it was quite funny at points, but Kim wasn’t too happy that they missed some parts out!

The Lion King

Our Rating:- 8/10

We Lost The Car!

We left the cinema and wanted to head home. The only problem was, we couldn’t find the car!We walked around for a while and eventually found it. We swear it was a maze in that carpark. We drove back home and we were actually very tired. We weren’t meant to do anything today and were out for 7 hours!Kim walked up to Canadian Tire to get some supplies and then when she came back, we watched some TV.Weirdly, neither of us were that hungry, but we did have snacks at the cinema. Therefore, Curtis had some toast and Kim had a pop tart.Tomorrow, we REALLY plan to do nothing.

Place 72 – Day 54: Vancouver, BC – Toy Story 4

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day qas full of meetings, but not all of them were productive.

The first meeting lasted just 5 minutes and then Curtis had a few research based things to do before having a team meeting which lasted for an hour!

After lunch, Curtis had a meeting planned but that was moved to tomorrow and he was going to give someone a new laptop but they weren’t in the office so he couldn’t.

Curtis spent the afternoon sorting his new projects he obtained today and then he walked home.

Kim’s Day

Kim got in and spent the morning working on a few little tasks like updating her contact list spreadsheet and going through things that will need to be covered in tomorrows meeting.

Then Kim sat down with her colleague to go through some of the planning for the 3 summer parties, one for each office location. It was great to iron out some of the details and get an game plan for the day of the Vancouver party.

Kim then went back to her desk and wrote up some notes from the meeting and started looking inti a few things for one of the other offices party. IT then came and had a look at Kim’s computer because the microphone function didn’t appear to be working. It wouldnt be so important if Kim wasn’t on the current project, as she need to hold meetings with remote workers and people from the other offices. Two people and a whole lot of trouble shooting later it was decided that it was in fact faulty and the plan was now to switch out Kim’s laptop for a different one.

Somehow after this it was suddenly lunch time so Kim went and soaked up some sun on the roof.

When she got back to her desk Kim had a few things to do with swapping over the laptop and over the course of a few hours ans many log ins later we were all good to go. An exciting thing about Kim’s new laptop is that it is a touchscreen too! Very exciting!

Kim was then resetting up the computer by relogging in to all the applications and setting up the bookmarks bar.

At about 3:40 Kim got a message to say that something she was due to send out tomorrow had been bumped up and was able to be sent out today. The only issue was it needed to be printed organised and then delivered to the courier by 4. Kim managed to get it all done and walked the door at 3:59 after running about 5 blocks. However, it turns out that the last pick up for delivery is in fact at 4:40. Kim then slowly walked back while catching her breath!

Kim then noticed that the coffee order she put in last week still hadn’t arrived. So she decided to give them a call. After being on hold for 15 minutes, she gave up, sent them a message and then headed home.

Toy Story 4

We left home at 18:20 and walked to the city to a cinema there.

There wasn’t too many people there and we got some snacks and went into the cinema.

This was technically classed as an auditorium and had a balcony!

We watched Toy Story 4, which was great!

Toy Story 4

Rating:- 10/10

We left here and walked home, with a beauitful skyline in tow!

We watched some TV and got some stuff sorted for work tomorrow and then headed to bed.

Place 72 – Day 17: Vancouver,BC – Reverse Shopping & Detective Pikachu

Great Britain Ice Hockey

Curtis was up at 07:00 to watch Great Britain play against France with the winner staying up in the top division.

Great Britain fell behind 3-0 but turned it around, got into overtime and ended up winning 4-3 and are staying in the top division!

Reverse Shopping

We got up and ready after relaxing for a bit and then we walked, in the slight rain, to the train station to get to Metropolis.

We started by doing some reverse shopping, in which we returned a couple of pairs of incorrectly ordered shoes.

Terrible Lunch

We were both very hungry so we looked around for somewhere to eat. We found The American Cheesesteak Co. Where they were selling a beef wrap for $1.99! That soubded like an amazing price, so we got one each.

This was where it got interesting…After a few bites, we noticed there were no beef chunks, but instead, beef salami! We asked about this, as did many other customers, and they said that is beef and that is what they sell…we were expecting chunks of beef, but it was cheap.

We ate quickly and moved on.

Rating:- 2/10

Homesense

We walked around homesense, looking at items we could potentionally get for our apartment once we move in.

We were in here for a while, but then wanted a coffee so we went to get one.

Coffee

We visited Blenz Coffee, which we find hit and miss, and Curtis’ coffee wasn’t great. It was just a cappucino, but it was WAY too hot and didn’t even taste good, which was a shame.

Detective Pikachu

We watched Detective Pikachu in a cinema which had vibrating seats and some, more expensive, seats even moved with the film!

We went into the film with low expectations, but we actually really enjoyed it. It seemed to keep getting better and the plot twists were excellent! The CGI was questionable but the general animation was fantastic.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu

Rating:- 8.5/10

Coffee Crisp

We came home and weren’t really hungry for dinner, so instead we had a coffee crisp each, which are coffee flavoured chocolate bars. These were quite nice, but we weren’t hungry enough to have a full meal.

We watched TV for a few hours and then got some sleep.

Place 83 – Day 2: Fort Lauderdale,FL – Bugs, Bagels & Long Shot

Bugs!

Curtis had another interview at 12:00 today, so we slept in until 11:00.

When we woke up, all was well, until Curtis went for shower! Once he got out of the shower and sat on the bed, he noticed a flying ant on himself. He flicked it off and shortly after felt one, but on the other side of himself..when he flicked this one off of him, he noticed that the bed bad a few on…after standing up, he noticed the bed was covered in the flies and then this is when he got Kim to show her.

When Kim came in and was shocked to see them, she looked around and was even more shocked than before…they had burrowed themselves in via a hole in the wall above a door connecting us to another room and there must have been hundreds!

We called the person we are renting from and they said they were going to send cleaners over in an hour to resolve, so we sat outside the front with the door open, hoping they would all fly out.

We couldn’t go anywhere until Curtis did his interview, which, after finding another method due to the phone playing up again, didn’t last too long but seemed very promising.

Bagels

We left before housekeeping did to get some breakfast and then watch something at the cinema. The weather was quite nice all morning, but was due to storm so we couldn’t really be bothered to go anywhere.

We found a bagel shop near by the cinema and got a bagel each. It wasn’t great but did the job.

Long Shot

We watched the film Long Shot at the cinema. The film was quite good, actually, but we didn’t really know what to expect anyway.

The cinema screen was quite small and there were few seats, but it was a ‘dine in’ cinema, so you get fancy, fully reclining leather armchairs with a tray that pulls across them so you can order food and drinks to your seat, which was far too expensive so we didn’t do that.

Long Shot

Rating:- 7/10

Rain

It did begin to rain when we left the cinema.

We went to the supermarket to see if there was anything we wanted for dinner, but there was nothing, so we left and walked back, which in total took about 45 minutes.

We got back just it started to thunderstorm again.

Pizza

We ordered pizza from Domino’s and sat and watched TV. That is pretty much the end of Fort Lauderdale for us, but we didn’t really plan to do too much here as we are mostly using it for a base to fly from.

We are going to be flying early tomorrow, so up nice and early, so we’re just making sure everything is packed and getting some sleep.

The next place should be awesome, though possibly stormy again!

Checkout

We had to checkout for 11:00 but accidentally missed out alarm and woke up at 10:00.

We got up, showered and had breakfast whilst also packing.

We were out of the room in time and relaxed for a bit whilst we ate breakfast.

We then took all of our things outside and waited for our Uber.

Shazam!

We got an Uber out to Mandalay Bay and check our bags in there.

We took off from here and walked across to Town Square, which is a shopping centre.

We got tickets to see Shazam! In IMAX for a really good price.

The film was really, really good! We weren’t sure what to expect but it was quite funny and a little different to most superhero films.

Shazam!

Rating:- 9/10

Shopping

We did a bit of shopping and Kim was able to get some shorts to replace her current ones.

We then got an Uber back to Mandalay Bay to get our bags and head to the airport.

Flying to Austin!

We are off to Austin!

We got to the airport, did all the usual things and then once through security, it was imperative we got food.

We went to Popeyes to give it another go and were pleasantly surprised!

Kim had chicken tenders with fries and Curtis had 3 chicken pieces with mac & cheese.

It was way better than it was previously.

We are now waiting to board the flight and will arrive late tonight, so if anything of interest happens on the flight or after, you’ll see about it here tomorrow!
