Place 49 – Day 374: Auckland – Christmas Day 2018

We were up at a decent time this morning and it was time for Christmas!

The weather was terrible, as ever, on Christmas day in Auckland.

Kim made some bacon and egg sandwiches for breakfast.

Shortly after breakfast, once we opened some presents and got ready, we attempted to go for a walk on Takapuna beach as it had stopped raining. Unfortunately, it rained when we got in the car and, when we say rained, we mean it bucketed down for a while, so we turned around and came back home.

We all got into comfy clothes and watched the July 22 film, about the Utøya & Oslo attacks in 2011. A very good film, actually, though not the most uplifiting of films!

After this, Kim began working away on our Christmas dinner. This took a couple of hours, but was well worth the wait. We had roast potatoes, roast sweet potato, mashed potato & sweet potato mash, beetroot, asparagus, potato gratin, cauliflower cheese, yorkshire puddings, stuffing, carrots, mushrooms and gravy.

After dinner, with our full bellies, we watched the film Elf which was a great throwback!

At 22:00, we spoke with Curtis’ family for a catch up, followed by Kim’s sister Abbie.

We then all went to bed as we’ve done nothing today so we’re very tired.

Place 49 – Day 373: Auckland – Kim’s Parents Have Arrived

.After waking around 07:15, we set off at 08:00 to get down to the airport. Before we left, Curtis saw that the city had a strip of cloud through it, which looked incredible!

Before we arrived, we stopped at the supermarket and grabbed an orange juice for Kim’s parents, ahead of their arrival.

Once we got to the airport, we parked up and waited for around 30 minutes until Kim’s parents came through the doors.

We said hello and headed out towards the car. As we went to do so, the heavens opened and so Kim pulled the car up for everyone to get in whilst Curtis paid for the parking.

We waited in the queue to leave for a while due to the barrier machine being broken. We were eventually let through without even showing our tickets.

We drove back to our apartment whilst chatting away.

Once we arrived back, we stopped briefly to deposit bags and then went out to get breakfast. We drove to Honey Cafe but it was closed, so we went to So French instead, which was excellent as ever! We saw the owner again and introduced him to Kim’s parents.

We each had a coffee and they were only selling crepes so we had one of those each.

Once we ate, drank and relaxed, we walked back to the car (via the pie shop).

We got back home and watched some vidoes on YouTube whilst relaxing with a coffee.

Curtis watched hockey at 13:30 and, whilst watching, was contacted by someone wanting to buy the Xbox so Curtis agreed and got that sold, having it picked up around 15:00!

Everyone started to get tired so people had naps and then Kim made some delcious sweet chilli beef with noodles for dinner.

Post dinner, we sat and watched the film ‘The Owner’ based on McDonald’s which was a really good film.

We all went to bed fairly early, but we needed it!

Tomorrow is Christmas day here, so we’re looking forward to relaxing, eating and drinking.

Also, a thank you to everyone for viewing our blog posts over the years. We are now on 13000 views and there is so much more to come so stay tuned over the next few months and years!

Place 49 – Day 372: Auckland – Getting Things Sorted

We woke up and had a McDonald’s breakfast as we didn’t have any milk in the house.

We had quite a bit to do today, so we got on with it!

Kim took Nicola to the airport as she is off to Wellington to see her family for Christmas.

Kim got back and we loaded our chestof drawers into the car as Colten was buying it from us, as well as the two sets of cubby holes.

We also moved the sofa downstairs whilst we were at it, so it’s ready if we sell it.

Once we finished with this, we waited for Tabitha to arrive and pickup a suitcase we were selling to her.

We then drove to Colten’s house to give him the drawers. We spoke with him for a bit and then headed to the shop to get some supplies.

We hot back home and finished the first series of Gavin & Stacey and then watched YouTube videos for the rest of the evening.

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and we also have fun stuff happening!

Place 49 – Day 371: Auckland – Goodbye Dinner & Gavin And Stacey

Waking up at 10:00, we had some cereal and got distracted by videos and streams until around 13:00.

We eventually left the house and did the shop for all of our christmas dinner food as well as grab a coffee.

We got home and did nothing, even having a nap!

We drove up to Brown’s Bay in the evening with Nicola. We were going for a goodbye meal at a highly rated Indian place up there.

We got the place and it looked really nice. We got our table and discussed the food options. We went with popadoms, dips, samosas & onion bhaji for starters…but that was a bit too much! Our mains came out and looked delicious but were huge! We also got naan breads with them, which didn’t help the amount of food!

We ate as much as we could and then decided we were defeated. The curries were tasty though. Curtis gives it a 7/10 and Kim gives it 8/10.

We went for a beach walk after, to burn off all the food and then walked back to the car to drive home.

We wanted to show Nicola Gavin& Stacey, so we watched 3 episodes of that which was still hilarious!

It was a successful, relaxing day, which was great.

Place 49 – Day 370: Auckland – No More Work in NZ!

Curtis’ Day;

There’s really nothing to report on for Curtis’ last day at work! He did very little, other than at 15:10 when he started helping his boss with something which took about an hour or so.

After this, Curtis was driven home by his boss and he had to leave the car there, seen as it was a work vehicle!

Both of us;

Kim got back from work but forgot the prosecco she was bought as a gift so she went back to work to get that.

It was also Kim’s last day, but she had her Christmas party at ‘The Wharf’ not too far from our house.

Kim had a really good time at the party and everyone was complimenting her and saying she was great at her job, which is always nice to hear!

Curtis collected Kim from the party around 00:10 and he also picked up Kelsey.

Curtis drove Kelsey home and on the way back stopped at KFC for Kim, but they were closed. In replacement, we went to McDonald’s instead.

We got home, Kim ate her food and then we slept.

It’s so good to know we have no work left here as well as some really awesome things planned!

Place 49 – Day 369: Auckland – Company Christmas Lunch

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got to the office quite early but didn’t have much to do at all.

Curtis found something to do to keep him busy, until he received a couple of emails with some things to do.

After getting these done, it was again quite quiet until around 12:50 when there was a phone call to say that a client down in wellington had no internet connection!

Curtis and his boss investigated for a bit and tried to get a hold of them, but once they did get a hold of someone it seemed to fix itself. That was good, as Curtis had his company Christmas lunch.

The accountants had prepared a large feast and some of Curtis’ colleagues’ family came to celebrate also.

There was a large assortment of meats as well as many vegetables and bread rolls, followed by cheesecake, pavlova & fruit salad.

Curtis was given a leaving gift of a pair of winter gloves, which is incredibly useful as he doesn’t currently have any.

This lunch went on for a couple of hours and then everyone cleaned up, but Curtis had some work to get done. Shortly after, Curtis said his last goodbyes to some people and then drove home. Tomorrow is his last day!

Both of us;

Kim came home briefly but had to go to an appointment, so Curtis drove her there. After this was done and Curtis picked her up, we came back home and had some risotto.

Kim went out to see Tabitha and had a delicious dessert as usual!

Kim got home after this and it was quite late, so we sorted things out and then it was bed time!

Place 49 – Day 368: Auckland – Sudden Change of Plan & Babysitting

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got to the office as usual but then after reading some messages, he noticed that he had been asked to go to the client he had been at last week.

Curtis eventually made his way to the client. He had to wait for a colleague to come into the office before he could leave. After arriving to the client at 09:00, Curtis was right into action and didn’t stop from there! He was given a treat of stollen and a mince pie though, which helped!

He left at 15:20 and the traffic was quite bad.

Both of us;

Luckily, Kim had made risotto yesterday, so we didn’t have to make dinner. We heated dinner up and ate it whilst watching a video on YouTube.

Kim went to babysit from 19:30 until 22:00. Kim got a lot done in that time! Kim was able to book a lot of things we needed to get booked, which was great!

On a side note, here is a photo of Kim looking christmassy today!

Kim got back home and it was then bed time.
