Place 49 – Day 250: Auckland – Chicken Feast & Planning

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis had to get a lot done today as it was his last day for 1.5 weeks!

Curtis worked hard all morning and was surprised when it was already 12:00!

Curtis was so hungry, so he went out to buy some food. On the way, he saw Josh so he stopped and had a quick chat.

Soon after, Curtis got to the place he bought lunch from. Curtis ordered a chicken burger and chips which was quite tasty (though there was cucumber in the burger which is odd) though it took 25 minutes to make for some reason, and they weren’t busy, either!

Curtis at that whilst he did some work that he needed to get sorted.

Curtis had all cases re-assigned to other people by about 16:00 and left the office at 16:30. He walked down to the apartments to see his family again, but this time the weather was much nicer!

Curtis chatted with them about their day as they went to a volcano island!

Both of us;

Kim left work late and then had to Uber down to the apartments but she got to us eventually and we went out for dinner!

We walked to the viaduct and went to a place that Lisa found called ‘Dr Rudis’. This was a bar/brewery/restaurant.

We arrived and there wasnt really anywhere for us to sit to start with, but we found a spot eventually.

The music was a bit loud but the food on the menu sounded good.

We got a chicken sharing platter and two pizzas, as well as beer.

We are all of our food and then made our way back to the apartment.

On the way, we got another great view of the sky tower!

We got back to the apartment and had some planning to do! We’re off on a fun trip for the next week, which you’ll hear more about tomorrow. Its exciting and should be a lot of fun and an adventure.

We left the apartment, walked to the car and walked home.

When we got home, we packed for our trip and then got some sleep! Kim actually has to work for an hour tomorrow morning before we leave.

Place 49 – Day 244: Auckland – A Food Court Dinner

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis only worked until 11:00, from home.

Curtis had a very busy morning and before he knew it, 11:00 hit!

Curtis showered, did one load of laundry, ironed and emptied the dishwasher before chilling for the rest of the day.

Both of us;

When Kim got home, we went to Glenfield Mall to get some food from the food court! We normally wouldn’t think of eating there but we saw a Japanese donburi place there last time so we had to try it out!

We got a bowl each where you get a choice of vegetables on top of rice and two meat choices too.

We both had the same vegetables (sweetcorn, peas, green beans & carrot.

Kim had two types of chicken and Curtis had lemon pork and soy chicken.

We took this home (along with a doughnut) and sat in front of the TV for the evening and watched a lot of TV! It was a great night.

Place 49 – Day 241: Auckland – Lunchtime Braai

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got to the office and got on with work.

Curtis also helped out with getting stuff ready for the lunchtime ‘Braai’ (A South African BBQ).

Curtis was pretty busy all morning but was really looking forward to the BBQ!

At 12:45, the BBQ got going! Curtis had two boerewors (South African Sausage), some ‘Sloppy Joe’ made by his colleague, some homemade ‘South African Style’ potato salad and two other green salads.

Curtis had a nice extended lunch just chatting with his colleagues!

In the afternoon he was able to finish off a few things and then he went home.

Both of us;

Kim went to the gym in the evening and then when she came home she made a risotto.

We had a but of difficulty whilst cooking when the ceramic dish we were using exploded! We transferred it to a pan and continued cooking. Dinner was delicious!

Curtis is off to Wellington for the day again tomorrow.

Place 49 – Day 239: Auckland – Plenty Of Naps

Having been out last night, Kim wasn’t feeling excellent this morning!

Curtis didn’t feel too good either, considering he didn’t drink alcohol! Must have just been dehydrated.

Due to this, we had a slow start to the day. We had breakfast and then Kim chilled in bed whilst Curtis played games.

We then got ready and went to do the shopping. We mostly just got food for tonight and for lunches as we had quite a lot at home.

We got home and Kim had another nap. Curtis then joined Kim and we slept for 30 minutes or so! We actually felt much better after it though, which is good.

We then had some dinner! Kim made a mini roast dinner, with a chicken breast each, gravy, roasted vegetables, peas & creamy mushrooms. Turned out we were both very hungry!

We then watched an episode of Ackley Bridge and the Kim showered and Curtis played some more Call Of Duty.

It’s bedtime again! This day feels like it has been going on for a while, due to all the sleeping. Work again tomorrow.

Place 49 – Day 226: Auckland – The Mystery Handbag…

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got to work and his colleague had been there a while.

Shortly after Curtis got there, his colleague noticed a handbag which was on our balcony. We thought this was odd so we had a look.

Upon further investigation, it was soaked through but also empty! This made us think that maybe someone was robbed and then someone threw it up there, or someone was drunk and threw it there. Either way, it was an interesting start to the day.

Curtis had a good day after this. The day wasn’t too busy, but he got some things done.

Curtis did manage to give himself a cardboard cut, which wasn’t too pleasant.

Curtis left a bit earlier to get to Birkenhead and get his work credit card activated. Once he did this, he drove home.

Both of us;

Once Curtis was home, he did some ironing and washing up, as well as spent a good 10-15 minutes trying to open an electric toothbrush which was incredibly fun.

When Kim got home, she went to the gym with a work colleague! She did a variety of exercises and different machines. It was good for her to have someone who knew what they were doing.

Kim made an incredible dinner when she got home. It was a tomato and pasta bake with sweetcorn, mushrooms, chicken and ham! We have enough for a couple of days, too which saves some money.

Kim then watched love island, we made some lunch for tomorrow and then it was bed time!

Place 49 – Day 225: Auckland – Piha Beach

We woke up naturally at about 08:00 but didn’t want to get out of bed so we stayed in bed until 09:30.

We wanted to do something fun today, so getting up early was a good idea!

We got out of bed then decided we didn’t want to start the day just yet.. So we played a little bit of Fortnite.

We eventually had breakfast, nothing crazy just a couple of crumpets each, then started to get ready to go out.

We left the house around 12:00 and drove for an hour west to get to Piha Beach. The was a really beautiful scenic drive!

The beach is a black sand beach, which is caused by volcanic rock!

There were huge rocks around also, which made for some excellent photos!

We wandered around the beach and the day was perfect for it! Not too hot but by no means cold.

Kim noticed that one of the rocks (which was a mini-mountain really!) had stairs going up it. The only problem was that we couldn’t get across to it because there was water in the way. The plan was to find a way to drive to that side and explore.

The rock in question

We went for a walk down to the other side of the beach before we left to find out way across.

We got to the other side and climbed over some rocks to another small beach. On this beach we unfortunately saw a deal seal and a dead (big) bird of some sort! This was clearly an unlucky beach…around the corner from that, there was a big set of rocks which the waves crashed off of and the waves went incredibly high!

We then left here and went to find a way up to the other rock.

We drove down the road for a little bit and found a car park to park in to get there.

We had to walk for a bit and then got to the rock. It turns out that the rock is called ‘lion rock’!

We walked up it to the top (at least the top of where you are allowed to go) and got some photos. We also sat for a bit because it was tiring!

The view

We then made our way back down and we were getting increasingly hungry on the way back do decided it was lunch time.

We drove to a cafe we saw on the way to the beach which was called Elevation. This is the highest cafe in Auckland.

The food was great but the service wasn’t too good, unfortunately.

Curtis had eggs benedict and Kim had a cheesesteak sandwich!

After this we drove home and did nothing special for the rest of the night. We just watched some TV and had a quick dinner of homemade Chinese chicken with rice.
