Place 72 – Day 172: Vancouver, BC – Optometrist, Bakery & Sandwiches!

Optometrist

We were up a decent time so we could get ready to head into the city.

Curtis had an optometry appointment, so we had to get down there for 12:50.

We had muffins with egg and cheese for breakfast and then got ready!

We got there and were a little early so Kim booked an appointment for herself and Curtis checked in and then we had a look around at some glasses frames.

Curtis went in for his appointment and it was actually pretty quick.

Curtis got his pupils dilated. It was horrible…! Firstly, it stung a lot, and then Curtis couldn’t see anything close up and it was pretty strange.

Curtis has to get some slightly stronger glasses and contact lenses. He went with a different brand for the lenses after giving them a try.

Curtis then, with Kim, tried a few different frames and finally found a pair! They’re a little different style to what he usually wears, but he really likes them.

Bakery

After this, we went to a bakery called Breka.

Kim had a chocolate mouse cake thing and Curtis and a lemon crumble slice which was tasty!

Curtis had a cappuccino which was ‘eh’ and Kim had a salted caramel mocha which she liked.

We walked to Urban Fare from here to get a few things for dinner tonight and for lunch for the week.

Costco

We stopped in at Costco on the walk home to get some chicken and cheese, as well as a couple of other things.

We walked back home and relaxed for a second, before Kim had to go up to the shop to get some things, too.

Sandwiches!

We each had a great sandwich for dinner! Kim had a two cheese sandwich with brie and cheddar and Curtis had a steak sandwich!

Each sandwich had mushrooms, onions, cheese an balsamic vinaigrette.

We ate these and has some wine and then watched some TV for the rest of the night, whilst also getting ready for work tomorrow.

Place 72 – Day 161: Vancouver, BC – Moving The Coat Rack

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got a lot of ticket work done but nothing much more beyond that.

At 14:00, he walked with a couple of people to the think-tank, which is a space for off-site meetings and working etc.

The company is getting rid of this, so Curtis had to scope out the area and see what needs to be taken down and moved back to the office, so he did that for around an hour.

He got back and did some more ticket work and then was able to leave at a good time.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent a lot of her morning going through emails and setting up meeting room bookings. After this, Kim went through and reconciled some transactions.

In the early afternoon Kim went through and set up three different catering requests and also drew up a plan for the large pizza order she will place the following day to arrive on Friday.

Kim then swapped the bookshelves around from her desk and the kitchen. This will give Kim more space at front desk and make the book swap and games shelves look less empty.

Kim then reorganised and tidied up around front desk.

Moving The Coat Rack

We got home and Kim had decided it was a good idea to move the coatrack we have on the wall, for 2 reasons. The first being that it was too close to other things and then second being that we believed it wasn’t in studs, just in drywall, which isn’t as safe.

We moved that when we got back home, or at least started to, and then Kim went out to help at her pole studio.

Once she got back, we finished sorting it out and now it’s in the perfect location and safe!

We had some time in the evening so we watched some TV.

Place 72 – Day 154: Vancouver, BC – The Trek To Work

Trek To Work

We had a bit of a trek to work this morning as the snow had really picked up overnight and there was a lot of it on the ground!

It took us a while to navigate through the snow to work, but we got there eventually with no issues.

Curtis’ Day

Curtis was feeling quite a bit better today. He was fairly busy with tickets and his small project in the morning, but come the afternoon it was pretty quiet.

Curtis trudged home in all the snow, but it had luckily stopped snowing as heavy as it was from 14:00-16:00.

Kim’s Day

To start her day Kim had a call meeting with a vendor. It was really good and they covered everything and asked a bunch of questions.
After the meeting Kim worked on a few smaller administration tasks and spent some time listening to her voicemail.

She then popped out with the rest of her team to grab some lunch, they all ate at their desks but Kim sat in the kitchen and ate. Shortly after this Kim and her teammate went out and got hot chocolate and doughnuts and set that up for the very empty office.
Kim then ordered some breakfast for the meeting that is happening on Friday and later she tidied up the boardroom after a day long meeting left.

Kim stopped by Starbucks to get a coffee for herself and the other lady on front desk as there is a lot of snow and it is cold! When she arrived Kim was invited to take part in a class so she did and she had a great time! It was a lyrical class and the routine was to Bruises by Lewis Capaldi and it was beautiful. It was so flowly and easy to follow!

Evening

Curtis did nothing all evening, just played games and watched some YouTube videos.

Kim went out to training as well as to help out there! She was out for a few hours and had to walk there and back as she would normally drive but it was a bit too snowy for that, so easier to drive.

Once Kim got back, we relaxed together, watched a bit of TV and went to bed.

Place 72 – Day 146: Vancouver, BC – Fixing The Bathroom

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had another busy day today. He had to setup another laptop in Denver, so he got that done, but it took some time, even just to get connected.

Curtis got a lot done, but also got to investigate some problems he and his team were running in to.

The day went incredibly fast again and he walked to meet Kim and walk home.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by dropping the car off to the garage as it needed a couple of small replacements.

Kim then made her way into work and spent the first bit of time with IT, trying to figure out how Kim broke a few things on her outlook! A couple of the issues were solved, so that was great.

Kim then did a new hire tour, which would have been her first in a fair few months, so that tested her memory!

After the tour Kim then spent a while going through old photos of the company to find a few that would be great for the Wiki project.

Kim also had a call today to speak with a potential venue for the winter party this year coming. As its a great venue Kim knows it will get booked up quickly so she is starting the conversation now to present to people nice and early!

After lunch Kim had a final 1-1 with her boss. It was such a great catch up, they sorted out a few things and just had a wonderful chat.

The rest of Kims afternoon was a lot of sorting and going through smaller mini projects.

Fixing The Bathroom

We got back home and Curtis made himself sausages, potato and peas with gravy. He ate this whilst watching a YouTube series about AI, which was incredibly interesting.

Kim went off to training and about an hour after she got there, a plumber as arrived to our apartment so he could fix the tap in the bath. The tap wasn’t working correctly so he replaced it and now it works!

Kim got home after training and had some food whilst we watched TV. Then we went to sleep.

Place 72 – Day 145: Vancouver, BC – Coconut Rice

Curtis’ Day

Curtis’ day was busy right from the start.

Most people were back at work and Curtis’ team had sent out an email requesting people to start doing something, so these all flooded in too, which Curtis helped with.

He had to setup a new user today, so he got on with that and also had to setup their laptop, which was located in Charlotte, so that took a bit of time.

Curtis’ team had a meeting to discuss their current projects and do some planning and then a further general ‘check-in’ meeting.

Curtis walked home and watched the Leafs game after work.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by making up the last busniess and arranging a few meetings for the week. She then went through some if the decorations from the party and boxed the last of it up and binned the few broken things.

Towards midday Kim realised that the fruit and other shopping hadn’t arrived so she checked and realised that she never actually finished the order. She set it up to arrive tomorrow and then went out to get milk and cream. By the time she got back and took off her coat Kim realised that she needed to get a cake too so she went back to the store and picked one up.

Kim then sat down with two of her teammates for lunch, it was the first time in weeks that they have all been in the office together so it was great to catch up!

Kim then started setting up a staples order for stationary and other items. She had to find some compostable plates and some first aid items.
Kim then had a quick meeting with her colleague in regards to the Wiki project which really cleared a few things up for Kim.

Shortly after the meeting Kim and her colleague interrupted their colleagues meeting with their boss to give cake and sing happy birthday!

Kim then spent the rest of the afternoon finding more first aid items to go on the order. It took forever because none of the measurement options were the same! Some were in centimetres, some inches, some feet and others in yards! It was a nightmare converting everything and trying to figure out if what had been found was actually what was needed!

All The Coconut Rice

We had the leftover thai curry for dinner, but needed some rice and wanted it to be coconut flavour, so Curtis walked up to the shop to get some. He left with 4 pouches as it on deal and we had that for dinner which was excellent.

We watched some TV, did some more laundry and got things ready for the day tomorrow, taking us perfectly to bed time.

Place 72 – Day 144: Vancouver, BC – Snow Prepared!

Snow Prepared

We got up and out fairly quickly this morning, to try and get ourselves prepared with snow clothes!

We plan to go skiing/snowboarding, so we needed to make sure we had the right clothing.

We started about a 20 minute walk from our house at a store called Sport Junkies.

This place is mostly a used sporting goods store, but it has been recommended to us by a few people so we checked it out.

Curtis successfully found some trousers for the snow, and pretty fast, but Kim was unable to find anything.

We left here and went to Winners to see if Kim could find anything for herself, which she did! She got some white Superdry snow trousers.

After this success, it certainly seemed that we deserved a reward, so we sat in Starbucks with a coffee for a bit.

After this, we did a larger shop at the supermarket as we needed a few general items that we don’t purchase too often.

We got these and then headed back home.

Homemade Thai Green Curry

Once we got back, it was time to make dinner!

Kim made a Thai green curry, which was terrific!

We ate this, watched some TV, did some laundry and cleaned the bathroom…because fun Sunday things!

Place 72 – Day 143: Vancouver, BC – Getting Stuff Done

Getting Stuff Done

We got up and had breakfast.

Once we ate, we spoke with Kim’s family to discuss our holiday with them and then Kim headed out to Richmond to go to a shop and return something.

Unfortunately, when she got there, they didn’t have what she was looking for (to swap the old item with), so she left.

Kim looked around this area for a bit but nothing really interested her, so she went to another place to look around.

Again, nothing was interesting, so after being out for a few hours, she went back home.

Curtis was watching hockey when Kim got back, but there wasn’t much left to watch, so we decided upon dinner!

We went with an Indian takeaway again, which was terrific as ever, which is very dangerous.

We watched a variety of TV shows and YouTube videos, as well as playing some more Crash Bandicoot.

Place 72 – Day 142: Vancouver, BC – Back to Productivity

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a productive busy day!

More and more work is cropping up now, as people begin to return to work.

Curtis dealt with a few tickets at the start of the day, had a meeting to discuss a new project with a colleague and then did some more ticket and purchasing work.

Curtis’ team had a long, 1 hour, meeting and then after that, Curtis had lunch.

He completed a few more tasks after this and then it was beer o’clock. Curtis sat with colleagues and had a chat until the end of the day.

Kim’s Day

Kim spent a good part of her morning drawing up business cards for people. This took a while as there was a bit of back and forth with a few tweaks each time.

After this Kim spent a lot of the day working on parts of the wiki project. After her lunch Kim then did the orders for the UK office and the Vancouver office.

She then went out to pick up the drinks for the first Friday afternoon drinks of the year! She then set these up and continued working on the project.

New Series

We walked home together and then Kim had to go out to training. She spent a couple of hours training and she enjoyed it!

Once she got back, Curtis made hoisin chicken and rice and we watched some TV.

We were looking for a new series to start as we finished The Good Place already! We started watching Living with Yourself.

Place 72 – Day 206: Vancouver, BC – Interesting Network Things

Curtis’ Day

Curtis only had a few things planned for the day, but that soon grew!

A lot of tickets came in, which Curtis took and sorted for people.

Curtis had to deal with a possible security issue, which took up quite a chunk of the morning, but he did enjoy that!

Curtis went for lunch with two colleagues. They had Banh Mi and Curtis also got a vietnamese iced coffee.

After lunch, Curtis had a meeting, followed by doing a few bits of project work as well as discussing a new project with his team.

Curtis also did some network things with his colleague who is in town from Winnipeg. He learned a bit more, too, which is great and always welcome.

Kim’s Day

When Kim got in she set up for the day and sent out a reminder email about a building run holiday breakfast party happening in the lobby.

Kim and a few others went down to grab some food, there was also a live 2 person band playing festive songs.
When Kim got back she tool some time to compare 2 pizza places as she wanted to try ordering from somewhere new.

Kim picked a restaurant that she and Curtis have ordered from previously. It has a comparable price, larger pizzas, better quality and all the dietary replacements that are needed.

Kim then popped out to the dollar store to grab some cheap holiday chocolates and mini candy canes for the chocolate vase at her desk.

People were very happy when they saw it filled with festive treats! On the way back into the office she picked up a box of 6 chicken nuggets.

Kim then scanned and saved a few recipts before heading out on another little coffee date! This time they actually went for coffee!

Kim and another colleague went down to JJ Bean and had a wonderful chat about management, how they both ended up in Vancouver and languages.

When Kim got back she actually booked the pizza for delivery as she didn’t want to place the order earlier over lunch time, that seemed like a bad time to be placing a 16 pizza order!

Kim the popped out again to pick up some felt for the party declarations and picked up the multipack of beer and case of cider for tomorrows afternoon drinks.

Enjoyable Pole Training

Curtis got home and had no plans to do anything at all, so just sat around and played games!

Kim’s class tonight was great fun! She ended up learning a move she tried a few weeks ago. It took a few attempts but she finally nailed it on the last attempt! She also learned a very cool fake bendy move!

Kim got back home and we watched a YouTube video or two, followed by Silicon Valley.

Place 72 – Day 205: Vancouver, BC – Getting Things Done

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work and had a few things planned to do but didnt really get around to them until after his 15 minute team meeting, due to getting some admin completed.

Curtis’ plan for the day was mostly to get tickets completed which he didn’t get to do yesterday with how busy he was doing the onboards.

Curtis did a lot in a short period of time, which was great as he needed to catch up!

He did get an email from someone thinking they recieved a phishing email, so Curtis investigated that for a while, which he always finds interesting, and he was able to determine that it was not a phishing email.

Curtis got a lot done for a project he is working on, too! He had to contact a company and find out if they could make some changes for him, as well as look at a few parts of the software and determine if it can do what is needed.

The afternoon involved setting up a laptop as well as starting off a backup and changing the name of a website, as requested by someone.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by reaching out and replying to vendors for the holiday party.

Kim then did a quick test of some of the party declarations, she loves the ones from today, but hates the one she made a few weeks ago!

Kim then spent some time planning up two floor plan options, one is preferable, but the other is a backup plan for if the band can’t be placed where they want it to be.

Kim then hopped on a call with a charity that the company works closely with and her boss to talk about future involvement and plans.

It was great to meet them and it will be awesome to work closer with them in the up and coming months.

After this call Kim finalised some more of the floor plan and then sent that off to the caterers to ensure that the current plan has enough space for all the food ordered. She then went on to amend her current timeline for a nice and easy to read timeline for all of the vendors.

Kim then had a small meeting with a colleague to go over the social lunch happening on Friday and the party plans.

Kim then had to do some proper first aid, it was just wrapping up an old injury that has flared up. So.she sorted that, did the paperwork and sent across some recommendations

Evening

Curtis watched hockey whilst Kim was out and helping at pole!

Once Kim got back home, we watched just a little TV, ate some hoisin chicken and rice that we made and then headed to bed.

Not a particularly exciting day today, but we got a lot of things done that we needed to.
