Place 72 – Day 889: Vancouver, BC – New Vietnamese Coffee Place?

Family Birthday Chat

Today is Curtis’ Nan’s birthday, so we woke up and chatted with her and Curtis’ family whilst they celebrated!

After chatting with them for a while, we got ourselves ready and headed out to get a Vietnamese coffee and have a nice walk.

New Vietnamese Coffee Place?

We got a Vietnamese coffee from a place just down the street. We’d seen the place for a while and thought we should try it.

It turns out they also sell the right Vietnamese coffee, so we can buy some! We enjoyed the coffee and we will need to go there and try their Bhan Mi, too.

We had a nice long walk after getting our coffee. It was sunny and started warm, but was certainly cold in the shade.

Clock Is Up!

We put up the new clock when we got back home and Curtis then watched hockey whilst Kim relaxed and got some admin done.

We went back out to get some things from the supermarket nearby and then had some chicken wraps for dinner with homemade potato salad.

We watched some TV and relaxed for the remainder of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 887: Vancouver, BC – Fancy Tech!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had a meeting at 09:00, just a 1 on 1, and then right after that he had some tickets and another computer checkup to get done.

Once he got those things done, he had a chat with the person he helped with the laptop yesterday. That laptop was having more problems now, so they started to use their spare laptop they luckily had to work, but it needed a bit of configuration so Curtis helped with that until lunch.

Post lunch, Curtis had a project meeting and then helped out the person with their spare machine from earlier.

He went out to collect a package, which was some more tech for home, a Google Home Hub!

Curtis did a bit more work and then watched hockey whilst Kim had her games night.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with a bit of admin and then joined a meeting to coordinate with another team. She then helped another teammate with something they need for a meeting tomorrow.

She then joined a weekly recruitment meeting then yoga after having a quick lunch. Then Kim had a meeting with her teammate to discuss the past few months and plans for the next few months. After that Kim joined a meeting to go over the last bit of paperwork.

For the late afternoon and into the evening Kim hosted another games night. It was so much fun, they played a few rounds of different games!

Evening

We had pizza for dinner and watched some TV for the evening. We also cleared up some things we had from moving that we still hadn’t sorted out.

Place 72 – Day 878: Vancouver, BC – New Coffee Machine!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis went right to the office this morning as he had to get a laptop setup and sent out.

Curtis actually got this done very quickly and had a bit of time to get a few other things completed whilst there.

After getting everything done that he needed to do at the office, he walked home in the beautiful weather and got home to the brand new coffee machine and coffee grinder he had ordered, which is exciting!

He then had busy afternoon, once having lunch with Kim, getting some more laptops working as they should and he also had a chat with someone to get their passwords reset and go over the full process.

Kim’s Day

Kim started the day by connecting a hiring manager with the recruitment team to discuss a role. She then worked with her teammate to book in some interviews. After those Kim gave an update at the company wide meeting.

After all the meetings Kim was able to start to update a spreadsheet before being called into another meeting. She was there for a few moments before one of the people in the meeting realised they were meant to be in another meeting so she said to Kim to go there. So they both went to a quick meeting in regards to a current role.

She then had another recruitment meeting to discuss a few positions that are open. Then Kimm spent the rest of the afternoon working on paperwork with a colleague.

In the evening Kim managed to allocate parts of the paperwork to other people to provide the information then she reviewed a few candidates in the pipelines.

Evening

After work, we had leftover salad from yesterday and once we ate that, it was time for Curtis to watch hockey.

He watched that whilst Kim did some more work and then after, Curtis got the coffee machine and grinder setup, which is exciting!

We watched some TV for the rest of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 876: Vancouver, BC – More New Home Items!

We woke up and had some breakfast, and then watched the Formula 1 race highlights.

Once we did that and got ourselves ready, we went out for a nice long walk again. Everything was a little less busy, so it was nicer to walk around and take in the beautiful weather.

We came back home and got some admin done with regards to changing our addresses on different things and then Kim looked online for some specific items we need for the apartment.

Kim found some, so she went out whilst Curtis watched hockey to get a few of those items, which was great.

Once Kim got back, we had a delicious mushroom and sweet potato salad, bwhich we had a lot during the summer last year, and we relaxed for the rest of the evening, with Kim also having her first bath in the new apartment!

Place 72 – Day 561: Vancouver, BC – New Processes, Staples & Date Change

Curtis’ Day

Curtis had the meeting that he postponed yesterday at 10:00 this morning and that lasted for 1.5 hours, but got that part of the project done.

When that was done, he had a lot of tickets and other things to get done up until lunch.

Curtis also had to change the date of our move in with all the relevant parties as one of the buildings couldn’t accomodate our original day.

After lunch, someone informed Curtis that they had purchased some software and wanted to get it connected to some other systems. There was no official process for requesting this, so Curtis decided to make the process and create all the documentation required for that. He quite enjoyed doing that and happy there is a process now.

Kim’s Day

Between meetings today Kim was able to get a lot of admin done, it was fantastic. She worked on plans for the next few weeks and worked on a free projects too.

Her first meeting was to discuss a process and how it will work with a few team members and it went really well. She then joined a planning meeting for a project she is helping with and that was really interesting. Kim learned a lot and is really enjoying being involved.

At around midday Kim joined the recruitment meeting and helped with updates. Then after lunch Kim hosted another dance party and it was fun!

Kim joined another meeting to discuss a potential project and how it might work. She then went to Staples before picking up the car from her friends apartment complex. On the way home Kim stopped by the old office to collect any mail.

Evening

We had some Nando’s sauce marinated chicken in the freezer, so we had that for dinner in a wrap, along side some waffle fries and a ceasar salad.

Curtis then watched hockey whilst Kim did some work and watched a movie.

We watched a bit of TV together after hockey.

Place 72 – Day 211: Vancouver, BC – 2nd Ever Leafs Game!

Curtis’ Day

Curtis didn’t have much planned again today, but it soon added up!

Curtis did a lot of tickets and then his afternoon was taken up with starting a project in which he needed to contact a lot of users and ask them some questions and give them some advice and feedback, and then he needed to discuss with his team.

Curtis got a bit of reading done for his Business Analyst training done and then left work.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day by catching up on some emails before heading into the remote workers quarterly social catch up. They had a great 30 minute catch up with new and older employees! It was wonderful!

After this meeting Kim spoke with the taco company from yesterday to complete the order for lunch for the other office. She then moved on to organising a FedEx delivery to go out.

Kim then set up the catering for a day long meeting and about an hour later cleared it away.

A while after this Kim had the monthly first aid meeting which went well, a lot of good questions were bought up and some great plans made for the new year!

2nd Ever Leafs Game!

We met after work and went out for some food.We walked past a Japanese place, which looked authentic and delicious so we thought we would give it a go.

We were not disappointed!

We both got chicken katsu curry and it was a huge portion and incredibly delicious. The chicken was excellent (maybe a little too fried, but still great) and the sauce was perfectly thick, combined with terrific rice. This filled us up perfectly!

We left here and walked to Rogers Arena to watch the Maple Leafs play against the Canucks.

This was our 2nd time watching the Leafs play, but this time, we went lower down in the seats to watch the warm up, which was amazing!

The game began and right from the start it was a pretty good one!

The 1st period ended 0-0, but there were some chances at either end.The Leafs took the 2nd period 2-0, with 2 pretty nice goals.

The leafs managed to seal the deal, after Vancouver made it 2-1, and the leafs got another goal and an empty net goal to get the win!

The leafs eventually won 4-1!

It was a really, really fun game to be at, and we loved every second!

After the game, we walked home.

Once we got back, we watched a little bit of TV and then went off to bed as it was 22:00 by the time we got back.

Curtis has a hockey game tomorrow, but probably won’t have the same amount of people watching it!

Haircut

We left pretty early in the morning and walked for about 25 minutes to the hairdresser which Kim was getting her haircut at.

Kim had her hair cut, which took about 45 minutes.

Curtis had a free coffee whilst he waited, too!

Home Time

We walked back home to the apartment and chilled out whilst we waited for our friend to arrive!

A Bar

Our friend arrived and we walked for 20 minutes down to a bar to get some food and drinks.

The bar had free wings, providing you purchase a beer.

We had sweet and spicy wings as well as Guinness BBQ wings.

We sat there until 17:00 and then walked to the ice rink.

Leafs Game!

We got to the area and walked in. When we got in, we just walked around and checked out what they had.

We got to our seats and watched the warm up and then waited for the game to start.

We watched the light show, which was pretty good!

The Leafs went up by 2, after the 2nd period, but lost in overtime. The game was great fun! We had an amazing time and loved the atmosphere. There was about 70/30 Leafs fans, considering we were in Vancouver.

Post Game

We went for a drink at a bar about 15 minutes walk from the area, and it was snowing!

We got a drink here and then we met some of Brodie’s friends and they had a drink.

We walked back to the apartment via the supermarket and got some garlic bread.

We got back and chatted whilst we ate potato smilies, chicken and garlic bread, then it was time to sleep.

Place 70 – Day 10: Victoria, BC – Chinatown, Dumplings & Saturday Night Hockey

We were actually up earlier this morning, for once, but the weather wasn’t appreciated.

There were huge winds, making the windows shake! There was a small flurry of slow, but nothing crazy.

We got a lot of bookings sorted and then rewarded ourselves with a walk down to Chinatown, in the freezing cold!

The weather, including the wind chill, felt like -10°C, which is definitely did! We were getting blown all over the place by the 60kph winds!

We walked to Chinatown and took a look at all restaurants to see if there was any place selling dumplings.

We found a restaurant which we stopped in and ordered some dumplings and gyoza.

We were given some green tea too, which was warm but neither of us like tea so we didn’t really drink that. That being said, the food was pretty good!

We left here and went right to Starbucks to get a hot chocolate each and warm up.

We stopped off to get some shower gel and then went back to the apartment.

We got some more things booked and then watched the Leafs game which went to overtime with a Leafs win!

We had chicken and vegetables for dinner and then we watched the Vancouver Canucks game until bed time!
