Place 72 – Day 981: Vancouver, BC – Four Lakes Hike & Cat Lake

We woke up at a decent time, slowly got ourselves ready, packed up and jumped in the car for a day of adventuring!

We drove up to Squamish to do a hike which takes you around to 4 different lakes. Overall, this was about 2 hours and about 5.5km. We really liked getting back out there and doing a hike, and managed to get down to a very cold river, too!

We made sure to keep an eye out for bears and Kim also got herself a ‘stabby-jabby stick’, as she called it, to fend off bears, should she need to. She liked looking like a dad on a hike!

We finished up the beautiful, calming walk and then drove ourselves out to another lake, named Cat Lake. Kim’s friend said she was there and that we should join them, so we did.

The road to it was a service road, so it was gravel and very bumpy! Kim really enjoyed driving on it.

We got there and it was very busy, but we sat dipping our feet into the nice cool, smooth, water. Kim eventually noticed her friend and was able to say hi, but they were actually leaving so we chose to leave as well.

We drove back home which took quite a while, about 1 hour 45 minutes, and once we got home we really needed a shower!

We had our shower and ordered some tacos, then we went to get those and ate them fairly quickly.

Once we ate, we booked some places to stay to extend our holiday we have booked as bit so we can explore some cool places!

We relaxed and watched TV for the remainder of the evening.

Place 72 – Day 385: Vancouver, BC – Grouse Grind, Bears & Dead Battery!

Grouse Grind

We were up at 08:30 and had some egg on toast for breakfast.

After breakfast, we got ready and then Curtis went down to the drug store to get Mars bars and Red Bull.

We then left the apartment and went down to the car to drive up to Grouse Mountain!

We got to the mountain and started making our way up. The Grouse Grind is notorious for being pretty tough, with its 2000+ stairs (plus rocks to climb up etc) & 2 hour completion time!

We started the hike and saw a squirrel right away, which was a great start!

The further up we got, the more challenging it became and we did have to stop quite a few times to regain our breath and stamina.

Towards the end, we got into the clouds and could even see them moving around us.

We eventually got to the top in just 1 hour 20 minutes, which we were very happy with!

Bears!

At the top, there are a few things to do, such as food, drink, disc golf and a bear enclosure!

We obviously had to go and see the bears, so we did just that.

We spent a while looking at the bears and they were pretty active. One of them even had a bath!

Once we were done with the bears, we walked to grab a quick beer before heading down on the gondola!

The beer was perfectly refreshing and just what we needed.

After such as awesome day, we got in the distanced gondola and made our way to the bottom of the mountain.

Once we got there, there was a Starbucks, so we grabbed a coffee and went to the car.

Dead Battery

Once we got in the car, we tried to start it and nothing happened!

Turns out, the battery had died, but we hadn’t left anything on so it must have been it’s time.

We eventually found a tow company that could come and help us, but after we scheduled with them, a couple said they would help jump start us and that worked perfectly, so we cancelled the tow truck and drove to Canadian Tire to get the battery changed!

We got that booked in and had to wait about 30/40 minutes for that to be swapped over, so we did a bit of shopping.

We got a wok which we’ve wanted for a while and then went to the liquor store to get some beer for tonight, which we needed for sure!

We got our car and headed back home.

First Ever Poutine!

We showered when we got home and then ordered some food.

We wanted to try poutine for the first time, so we ordered a burger each with a side ceasar salad each and a side of poutine and some sweet potato fries.

We watched the film ‘love Guaranteed’ which wasn’t great, but was something to watch.

We played some more Tony Hawk Skateboarding and watched a bit more TV but we were very tired after our long hike!

Place 70 – Day 17: Victoria, BC – Great Bear Rainforest IMAX

The Morning

We woke with very little sleep, for some reason. Neither of us slept too well, so we slept a bit longer than expected.

We ate cereal for breakfast, had a coffee and orange juice and then got ready for the day.

We chatted with Linda for a bit and then left the house to go to the museum, again.

Great Bear Rainforest IMAX

We booked tickets yesterday at the museum to go back today for an IMAX showing.

The IMAX Screen

The screen itself is the biggest in British Columbia at 6 stories tall!

This IMAX is fully laser, so has much better quality and colour density, as well as high quality crisp surround sound audio and it was also 3D.

The Film

The film itself was around 40 minutes long and was regarding the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia.

The 3D was incredible in this film and it felt like it should have finished much later than it did as it was so good!

The film followed a native man and his son who have been studying the rare ‘spirit bear’ for years.

This showed that bear as well as grizzly bears, brown bears, fish, seals & whales.

There was incredible cinematography and it was also commentated by Ryan Reynolds, which was odd but worked well, with him cracking a few jokes.

Chocolate Shop

We went to a chocolate shop after the IMAX. Kim had seen the shop previously so we went there to get a drink and look at their chocolates.

Kim had a mocha, which are only ever made with melted chocolate and not syrup! It was delicious and worth the extra cost.

Curtis had a cappucino which was also perfect and the first good one he has had since New Zealand.

Hockey Night in Canada

Curtis and Linda watched the Leafs game once we got back.

Whilst this was happening, Kim did some research and booking.

Dinner

We had a delicous whole roast chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli & stuffing with a delicious gravy.

After dinner, we watched the Vancouver hockey game and Kim did some further research before bed.
