Place 49 & 53 – Day 100 & 1: Auckland & Wellington 🇳🇿 – 100 Days in Auckland & Old Hospital!

Today is the 100th day of being in Auckland!

Kim’s Day;

Today Kim went back to sleep after Curtis left because it was far too early to be up!

When she woke up many hours later Kim had a lazy morning and tried poached eggs again! They went brilliantly!

Kim headed into work and was on reception today. She went through all the emails and set up all the check ins due for the day.

The shift went nice and smoothly until suddenly all the power went out. It was down for about an hour and a half. In this time Kim went and updated all the guests and out candles in the restaurant.

The power came back on as Kim was checking in the final family for the night.

At the end of her shift, Kim joined her colleagues for a birthday drink as one of them turned 21! She sat and had her meal with them all. During this the power went out again!

Kim then drive home and sat with their flatmate for a while before calling Curtis!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got up at 04:45 and got ready and drove to the office at 05:40.

He got to the office and dropped off his car key and then got an uber with Colten, who he is traveling with.

They got to the airport and checked their bags before grabbing a quick McDonald’s and taking it through security.

They sat down, got a coffee and ate breakfast.

They boarded the plane and the flight was just 45 minutes so not very long at all!

They drove to the hotel but were unable to check in so they went to the client. Once they got there, they saw how awesome the buildings looked and went right in to reception.

They met the lovely person that was showing us around and they got a tour (mostly for work purposes).

The buildings are part of an old hospital from 1919 which was used to treat influenza patients. There is also an abandoned part too, which is the nurses hostel and we got a small tour of that which was creepy but awesome!

Once they were done at the client, they had a lot of admin to get sorted so they went back to the hotel even though they couldn’t check in. They sat down in the reception area and got some work done until they were able to check in.

They both got to their rooms and finished up work for a few hours and then just relaxed.

Curtis will be up fairly early tomorrow to get to the client for around 08:15.

Its going to be a busy week!

Place 49 – Day 99: Auckland – 2nd Game of the Season

We awoke at 09:30 to help with the TV that our flatmate had arriving but we didn’t actually need to help!

Curtis had a toasted hot crossed bun for breakfast and Kim had a toasted English muffin.

We sat and watched some TV until 12:00 when Curtis watched hockey and Kim got ready for work.

Kim’s Day;

On the way to work Kim stopped at the shop to by her Narina a chocolate bar, and one for herself.

While she was parked she saw a butchers receive all their stock. It went into the shop on a zip line type thing from the van. It was a weird thing to see and not what Kim expected!

Once she arrived she realised both of the other managers needed the chocolate more than she did so gave her bar to the other manager on shift. Kim and the other manager ended up going halfsies!

There was a big function on at the hotel today! Kim was not working the function so she was managing floor.
Kim would run food and help out on bar.
The evening went nice and quick.

The function went very well, Kim even ran some canapés.

Kim then drove home to see Curtis!

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis finished watching the Leafs game and then played some Xbox.

At about 17:00, Curtis had dinner. He heated up some roast dinner leftovers and ate those!

Curtis got packed for his Wellington trip and got his hockey kit sorted then drove to the ice drink, stopping at a shop to get a drink before hand.

Curtis got changed and watched the remaining few minutes of the ongoing game before his.

Curtis did warmup and then took the first faceoff of the game (which he lost) and the game began!

Curtis played very well and the game ended in a 2-1 loss.

Curtis drove home and showered before playing some fortnite.

Both of us;

When Kim got home, we had a glass of wine with our flatmate and spoke about our days.

Kim had a hot crossed bun and then we played some fortnite before going to bed.

Curtis is up nice and early tomorrow!

Place 49 – Day 98: Auckland – Video Game Day! 🎮

We started the morning with a loving breakfast made by Kim as per usual on a weekend!

We had a muffin topped with poached eggs as well as hash browns and creamy mushrooms.

We finished breakfast and then played some games, after Curtis factory reset the Xbox as it wouldn’t boot!

We played a lot of fortnite for a couple of hours and then went to the shops to get dinner. We decided to have a roast chicken for dinner, along with vegetables, gravy, potato gratin and Yorkshire puddings!

We grabbed a coffee from Coffix (and one for Nicola) and then drove home. As soon as we got home, the rain came again, so we played more games!

Kim then cooked the dinner and we sat down and ate, along with a glass of red.

We cleaned up after dinner and then watched some TV and played more games.

Place 49 – Day 97: Auckland – Mini Sofa & Accompaniments

Kim’s Day;

Today Kim had a day off! This meant she had a lot of time to get stuff done.

She starts her day by making poached eggs on toast for breakfast.

It went well and they tasted lovely.

Kim then went on a search for a little sofa for their room and found one.

She arranged to pick it up in the evening. While looking for a sofa Kim also found a little suitcase for a bargain of $19 which meant that curtis could give back the one he was borrowing from a work friend.

Kim drove across Auckland to pick up the suitcase and on the way back stopped at Curtis’ office to see what it was like. It’s very big, empty and has bright colours.

Kim the headed home and made a light lunch while she waited for Curtis to come home.

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got to work and had to figure out what was wrong with a laptop before sending it back to the client.

Curtis got the laptop figured out and then got prepared for the site visit he had to do as well as answering some emails.

At 09:30, Curtis drove to the client who were just down the road.

Curtis had to setup a new wireless access point which was incredibly simple. He then helped with a few questions and issues before leaving and getting back to the office.

Curtis spent the afternoon getting as much either done or handed off for next week.

Curtis is away with his boss in Wellington for the next two weeks so no point him having cases!

Kim popped in to see Curtis in the office at about 15:30 and left shortly after.

Curtis drove home at 16:40.

Both of us;

Once Curtis was home, we watched some TV and relaxed before driving down to Mount Eden to collect a sofa. The sofa just fit in the car, though we did need to strap the boot down a little.

We got it home and took it upstairs and set it up. We feel that it looks good!

We then went out for KFC and when we got home we shared some alcoholic drinks with our flatmate.

Place 49 – Day 96: Auckland – Work Christmas(?) Lunch

Kim’s Day;

Today Kim was on a late start so slept a lot and relaxed in the morning.

Kim was on admin and restaurant.
This meant Kim had a varied role of running food, taking drinks orders and getting a few back office things sorted for the hotel.

At the end of her shift Kim went over to Narina’s to pick up some food that she had kept frozen while they were out of a fridge and freezer.

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis drove to work and when he arrived he knew he only had up to 12:30 to get things done. He had some laptops to finish configuration on, as well as a couple of small things to do in the morning.

Just before 12:00, 6 cases came in for Curtis to do, which he didn’t get time to do in the end, but there went from not much to a lot!

At 12:20, Curtis had a, very late, work Christmas lunch. Curtis and his colleagues walked down to an alehouse to have some lunch. This lasted for about 2 hours.

For starters, they got battered squid, chicken wings, wontons, risotto balls and pulled pork sliders, washed down with a beer!

Once that was done, Curtis had a bit of a chat with his colleagues and then ordered some food. Curtis ordered Bangers and Mash, but made the bad mistake of saying yes to the lunch version, rather than the large version. When it came out, it turned out to be one, very tasty, pork and apple cider sausage with a little bit of mash, onion gravy and peas.

They sat and had conversations and found out some new information and then headed back to the office.

When Curtis got back, he had to move his items from his desk to a new desk, as the desks are getting moved to add offices in, so Curtis did that.

Curtis then got on with some more work he had to get done, and then he had to help move more desks, so that took out some more time!

The day was basically over at this point, so Curtis drove home.

Curtis did nothing when he got home. He just played xbox and watched some YouTube videos.

Tomorrow, Curtis has a lot to do to prepare to go to Wellington next week. He needs to also go onsite to a client tomorrow, hopefully briefly, to setup a wireless access point, but we shall see how that goes!

Place 49 – Day 95: Auckland – Getting Stuff Organized

Kim’s Day;

Today Kim had a morning shift which meant she was up and out early.

Once she got to work it was the regular morning routine of setting up breakfast and the outside furniture.

Kim then got the reception set up by organising all of the people checking out and did the admin of new bookings.

The shift went smoothly and Kim then headed home to get ingredients for fajitas.

Instead of using a packet, because she had time, Kim decided to make a marinade for the chicken. She made it with lime, paprika and cumin. She then let this rest for a few hours until dinner time.

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis got to work and helped out his new colleague with a few questions and then looked at his emails.

He had a few new emails about small issues which he then sorted during the day as well as some relating to ongoing cases.

Curtis wanted to get cases organized today so he decided what he was going to do and when. He had a mini project which he had a call about but it didn’t really come to anything unfortunately. Curtis did get to edit to video tutorials he made with turns out is a bit more difficult than you would expect!

Curtis was informed of 2 laptops that needed to be configured so he got them mostly sorted in the afternoon before he left.

Both of us;

We were both home together this evening so we just relaxed and then Kim made dinner for us and our flatmate. Kim made fajitas all from scratch and it was delicious! We had the with wedges and a beer, of course!

Once we ate we sat and watch TV for a few hours.

Now is bed time! Curtis had a team lunch tomorrow and Kim is working in the evening.

Place 49 – Day 94: Auckland – Just Work

Kim’s Day;

Today Kim was working in the afternoon. This meant that she had a nice relaxing morning and got a little admin done too.

Kim was on reception and restaurant management today. This meant that Kim handled all of the check ins but also kept an eye on restaurant until Narina came on shift later on in the evening. Kim set up a section plan and organised peoples breaks.

She also went through the next few days worth of bookings to arrange arrival times and other things. There was also more room service than usual which meant that Kim was able to get away from the desk every now and again. During happy hour Kim helped by clearing glasses and plates, running food and taking the odd drinks order.

Kim left relatively on time and swung by a supermarket on her way home to grab some lunch stuff.

Curtis’ Day;

Curtis drove to work and arrived at 07:20 which was a much better time to arrive.

Curtis got right to work, checking and replying to emails. He had a few things planned which he was able to get sorted and he was very much on top of things.

In the afternoon, Curtis was asked to do something with a client’s wifi as well as make some video tutorials for them, so that kept him busy.

Curtis planned to leave at 16:30 but got held up until 16:50.

Cjrtis got home and played some Xbox before making dinner. He made sausages, gravy, potatoes and vegetables again, but much better!

Both of us;

Kim got home and made lunches whilst Curtis emptied the dish washer.

We then sat and watched a TV show before Kim had to do some admin before bed.
