Place 72 – Day 129: Vancouver,BC – Aurora Winter Festival

Curtis’ Day

Curtis got to work around 09:00 and today was the start of the Hackathon.

For the hackathon, Curtis’ team is making an application which links to another application that the company uses, which will help everyone find people that can do a certain job within the company.

Curtis is very passionate about this idea and luckily his team was able to find a great developer that can develop it!

Most of the day was spent having meetings and making decisions around the application.

There were a few things to help with regarding other people’s ideas, as they needed some permissions for things.

Curtis did a bit of configuration work at the end of the day for the new helpdesk software, and then waited for Kim to arrive at his work.

Kim’s Day

Kim started her day with having to call FedEx, this is never a fun task and this call was in regards to something being held at customs.

This isn’t something Kim has dealt with before so she called twice and spent while with them trying to figure it out.

Then, Kim stepped away from her desk before she was able to send the information to sort it and when she returned she had recieved an email saying the laptop had been released from customs. That means that it was all a waste of time!

Kim then sent out a few letters and headed out to the post box. On her way back she checked the mail box and distributed the mail.

After her lunch Kim had a meeting with her two colleagues to go over the Wiki project.

They went over how to format and the set up for storing information so it was a really productive and useful meeting, especially given that Kim hasn’t given this project much of a second thought for the past few months.

Kim spent the rest of her afternoon closing of mini items before she goes on leave for the rest of the week.

Kim ordered pizza, orgnaised the plates and napkins for that and made reminders for other things and cleaned up the reception area.

Aurora Winter Festival

After work, Kim met Curtis at his work and then we went, along with two people from Curtis’ work, to the Aurora Winter Festival.

This festival was at the PNE Amphitheatre, so we had to take a bus to get to it.

It was raining and had been all day, so it didn’t give us much hope for good weather! We caught the 95 bus for 30 minutes until we got to PNE.

We had already bought tickets and so got those scanned and entered the park.

It was a little disappointing right off the bat as it wasn’t busy at all, so the atmosphere wasn’t great.

We had to buy tickets to go on any rides, so Kim bought two tickets to go on a tube slide!

After this, we walked around and looked at the market stalls, but they weren’t too interesting.

It was also still raining and cold, so that didn’t assist us.

We went for a walk around a short trail which had gingerbread houses on.

There was then a craft tent which we went in and we all made baubles!

Kim had to concentrate, so here is her concentration face.

We left here and did another walk, which took us through the forest and to a few different light displays.

We got hungry after this, so we went to look at the food trucks.

We both decided on noodles, so Kim got chicken teriyaki and Curtis got pad thai.

Neither of the meals were great, but it was food!

We were all pretty tired and fed up by this point, so we went our separate ways.

To get back home, we had to car the 95 bus back to the city and then take the Canada line home.

Hot tub!

We got back and Kim went in the hot tub to warm up, whilst Curtis went for a long, hot, shower.

We watched some TV, had a hot chocolate and relaxed.

Kim doesn’t have work tomorrow and Curtis is working half of the day so we can travel to Victoria to spend the weekend!
