Place 72 – Day 52: Vancouver,BC – Kids Club Volunteering

Curtis’ Day

Curtis grabbed a coffee when he got to work and then he was non-stop!

Curtis swapped out a laptop for someone who needed a better one.

Curtis then had a few tickets to look at and he had an offboard to complete.

After getting everything done, Curtis had his lunch and then packed up for the day.

Curtis had a volunteering afternoon planned through work where he had to go to a kids club and help out there.

Curtis and his colleagues jumped on a train to Main St and walked to the kids club.

Once they got there, they were told about what the club does, how long it has been around and then what the plan for the afternoon was.

The first thing to do, before kids arrived, was to build some ‘fortune teller parrots’ which were made from paper. This took a while and then the kids started arriving, so Curtis and his colleagues headed downstairs to the gym.

An interesting fact about the gym was that it was, a couple of years ago, renovated by the Toronto Raptors who even stayed and played Basketball with the kids…Pretty cool!

The dodgeball started and it was against the older kids, who were fierce! Two games were played and then it was the turn of the younger kids.

After 3 games against the younger kids, it was already 16:30 and they were due to finish at 17:00!

For the last 30 minutes, Curtis and a couple of colleagues played pool with a sweet little girl and then a quick game of marbles before the volunteering was done.

Curtis and his colleagues got photos together outside the club and then Curtis took the 22 minute walk home.

Obviously Curtis couldn’t get any photos at the kids club, but the organiser did take some so he may be able to get some at some point.

Kim’s Day

Kim went in a little early today a new starter was due in at 9. When she arrived Kim got everything ready and then when the new starter arrived Kim did a brief floor tour before he started his day.

When the weekly fruit arrived Kim unpacked it all and realised she ordered about a 5th of the regular amount of bananas. So a small ad hoc order has gone through and everyone should have bananas by tomorrow!

The rest of Kim’s morning consisted of ad hoc administration tasks and some reconciliations. All of this kept Kim nice and busy.

For lunch Kim sat in the kitchen to eat and the after Kim popped out to return a toaster that was too tiny to toast anything!

Kim’s afternoon sped by! She continued work on a spreadsheet that covers all the contact information for vendors she will frequently have to contact. Its so much easier having it all in one space with a search and filter function!

For a while Kim started setting up 2 deliveries that will be sent out tomorrow, so this was good practice to get to know those processes and websites.

Kim then headed home a little early because she started early!

Quasadillas

We had quasadillas for dinner again today, along with a side salad.

We did a bit of cleaning and tidying but got sat down at a good time to watch some TV.

We watched a couple of episodes of lucifer and then went to bed at a good time.

This Time Last Year!
