Place 49 – Day 161: Auckland – Mount Eden Crater

We woke up around 10:45 and eventually got out of bed.

We had eggs on toast with hash browns for breakfast and watched some TV.

We heard the weather was meant to be rubbish this weekend, but it wasn’t set to be today so we thought we would make the most of it!

Whilst Curtis was showering, the landlord of our apartment arrived to fill some holes which were causing leaks.

Once that was done and we got ready, we left the house.

We drove about 15 minutes to get to Mount Eden. We parked up and walked to the summit. Along the way, we admired the views which were really good, especially with the good weather!

We eventually got to the top and here is where it gets interesting!

At the summit, there is A MASSIVE crater! This is apparently a volcano which last erupted around 13,000 years ago. The technical name for this is a Cinder Cone. You can read more about them here. They’re incredibly interesting.

It was crazy how massive the crater was. The sheer enormity was honestly incredible.

We left here and walked back to the car, where we drove to Silvia Park for a coffee and a bit of shopping.

We went to a chocolate shop and Curtis got a Mocha and Kim got a white chocolate coconut mocha.

Kim just needed to get some more clothes for work.

We finished here and drove to the supermarket to get some dinner. We got cooked chicken and tiger loaf!

We watched some TV and then a film! The film we watched was ‘Every Day’. This film was excellent!

It’s late but it has been an awesome day! It was nice to get out and do something which we can now do with Kim not working weekends.

This time last year!
